How to Create an Artwork with Brush Calligraphy. In celebration of Burns Night, Maisie shows you how she has turned a verse of the Robert Burns poem into a piece of art.
She uses the Finetec Autumn palet, a light pad and size 2 watercolour brush to turn the first stanza of the famous poem "To a Mouse" from a basic font into a shimmering art piece. All the materials are available on our website www.themoderncalligraphyco.com
"To a Mouse" was written in 1785 by Scotland’s national poet, Robert Burns. After accidentally destroyed a mouse’s nest with his plough, the poem's speaker expresses sorrow for the animal’s plight. The mouses's homelessness and hunger prompt the speaker to feel compassion for all vulnerable creatures and also to reflect on the unpredictability and pain of human life. "To a Mouse" features Burns’s characteristic use of Scottish dialect and a six-line stanza form known as the habbie or Burns stanza.
A celebration of the life and poetry of the poet Robert Burns (25 January 1759 - 21 July 1796), the author of many Scots poems. The poet's birthday was 25 January which is known as Burns Night.
