This is absolutely NOT a criticism of Aly, more of a general observation I've noticed from various creators I follow, but I feel that the rules/advice for classics is always a bit skimpy. I think there's a lot of difference between a DC and a SC....a sharp blazer for example would look great on a DC, but not so good on a SC. I'd like to see a whole video devoted to each type on this topic ....it's so jnteresting 😊

I believe I am a soft gamine, and I discovered that I can pull of more classic ballerina-esque clothing if I contrast the materials sharp enough. For example, one of my favorite outfits is a pair of distressed and cropped boyfriend jeans combined with a very nice quality knit wrap sweater and some black ballet style flats. When I try to pair the sweater with a bottom of equal quality, I feel like I look so stuffy!

@@liz257 maybe nobody agree, but I can not avoid saying that considering "girly" or "masculine" stuff here is a mistake. As a 61 year old woman, when I have to look smart I sometimes struggle not to follow the matching style from when I worked in management. My solution is to wear what I want, but keep to one colour palette with different textures. I stopped working in 2008 and settled straight away into casual or smart casual. As a plus size woman accessories were always very important for expressing my own style and I love shopping for these! I have been moving to a more romantic style, but I have to avoid baggy clothing because it can make me look bigger.

As a romantic working for a company that puts us in a stiff uniform I roll my sleeves up between wrist and elbow, which takes off a bit of elongation. That's also why in the picture the black and white top worked for Beyonce, because the sleeves were short and it looked like a smaller square on top of rounded, but longer "rectangle" of her legs. If you know what I mean.

I loved this! All of the pictures were so helpful! As another viewer commented, I’d love to see a deeper focus on classics. For example- what is “normal” clothing exactly? I feel I have such a good understanding of the other body types from watching your videos but not so much my own classic body type. It feels boring and plain and I would love to be able to see how to make it feel more special and more “me”. Thanks!
@renenetatm8222
@renenetatm8222 2 года назад
Well "normal" classic clothes are plain, simple and timeless, so I understand it can feel a bit boring sometimes. Pay attention to texture to add some interest, could be tweed or nice knit (but not overly chunky), a silk scarf is a nice way to dress an outfit up. Generally, adding jewellery is a nice way to add personality to an otherwise simple outfit.

I love your observations I observe a similar thing in interior design with analogous and complementary colors. For example most people will try to do the most basic (and incorrect) form of decorating by employing a “matching” strategy using analogous colors on the color wheel like for example pink and purple and matching everything to each other , however when you look at the exact definite meaning of the word analogous you will find it is meaning opposite. Which is true by employing “matching” through analogous colors they’re actually simultaneously disrupting a true matching. A true matching in terms of definition would be complementary. Complementary being obviously more similar to matching then analogous like I just stated. So in essence using complementary colors like pink and green will “match” so to speak much better then analogous color wheels and stereotypical matching in most common/80s interiors. You will also observe in nature most of the coloration is complementary (“matching” lol) like bright pink flowers and green stems, orange sands and blue beaches etc. nature always holds the truth and this is the truth of a beautiful interior (imo)

Great ideas! For flamboyant naturals, throwing in some asymmetric elements can perfect a look as well. Like a slouchy belt, or a large, loose scarf can make a classic dress that is too balanced suddenly work for FN. think Ralph Lauren

Absolutely loved this long video. I learned so much about fashion and why some clothing does not work for me even though I love the look. I am 5’2” and I have dark brown intense eyes, rectangular body shape with strong angles. I have to find things that soften my look without being fussy. And, I adore wearing crossbody bags that elongate my appearance, contrasting shoes and jewelry. I live in Alaska and wear coats 9 months of the year and there is definitely something to be said for regional climate dressing that is often ignored by influencers. Also, not enough emphasis is concentrated on how clothing looks from all sides and when seated.

The only thing that makes sense to me since she used to be SG is that she is purely G now, like her mom - meaning she got "rid" of some roundness/flesh. Her cheekbones seem to be popping more, in general her facial features seem more sharp/chiseled

@@kthy31 Idk because this year she has been talking about essence and I think her view of Kibbe is changing. Her sweater is gamine this time, but in past videos she has adopted a very serious DC look instead of a Gamine style. She said "I'm not SG anymore, I am something else" and she put a lot of emphasis on "something else", she didn't say "I'm just Gamine", so I assume there's more behind. As someone who was in college from 1983-1987 on the east coast, the design rules about matching styles did not apply for the collegiate age range. We combined preppy with punk, romantic boho with biker, so it really did depend on your age and location. I also remember that my favorite outfits in high school (1979-1983) were composed of mu favorite jeans and sneakers with a dress blouse and blazer stolen from my mother’s closet.

This was wonderful! I binged on your videos this weekend. Then I decided to look at some others on the same topic. Then tried to do some research on Kibbe himself. I think critics have it all wrong and they do not fully listen. These are not rules. As you stated in this wonderful video, it will depend on job, time in life and personal style. Let's face it budget too. But that is why I like all the explanation. So it had to be a long video. There are so many things a person can adjust. This was so helpful. Freeing.

Alys version of Kibbe is not the exact same as when you join the official Kibbe group. That's probably why it is slightly more freeing maybe. There are rules in the real strictly Kibbe system that aren't mentioned here on her channel. Some rules I don't agree with in the group. I'm a SD who used to be in the official Facebook group and remember disagreeing with Kibbe himself on shoes vs trainers for outfits. I completely understand where he was coming from in his reply, just different opinions on certain points based on culture and subcultures in fashion, that made me realise the real Kibbe system is narrow. But he is great at what he does, it's his system and he has the right to say how he wants the system to be.

@@thechronicreative Having been in the group, can you share any important insights on SD? I am always left with questions after viewing the SD section of videos. I find some body types are always well covered and in-depth but something always seems less with SD and SC.. For example, why SD hair colour should be intense and the impact on the overall look if it's not. How does it affect facial structure? What's is optimal sleek or voluminous hair.... shoulder length or longer? In terms of ornate earrings. Do they have to be large or can earrings be small to medium but have an ornate look? Most times I find elaborate hair plus elaborate earrings too much. And don't mention if you add shoulder emphasis to that....All three combined just seems like a circus. What exactly is Kibbe's idea of large jewelry? Can it simply be something that's not dainty or is it always on the extreme extravagant side? Sometimes it's said waist emphasis is very important, other times the opposite is stated or presented as optional. I think waist emphasis is non negotiable but which is correct?

@thechronicreative
@thechronicreative 2 года назад
1. Colour. It impacts features first, then a bit of structure.Rich, saturated pigments are exotic in his system. I guess to Kibbe we are a little more intense,rich, exotic in our features, in our presence.In the group he gets you to analyse your whole body silhouette for yourself and then look at the lines. Mine were longer than I realised, curvy and yet not very rounded like a romantic.My height isn't small at all but not as tall and long as a runaway model. When I was super slim I still wasn't as sharp as a dramatic.Yet all These features stand out a little too much as asymmetric to be a classic.So if I add to my facial features, hair colours that are not well pigmented, you notice the hair first. Every, single time. Almost like a bad wig that is not complimenting my face.But a rich black, vibrant deep red, a rich strong brown, a strong blonde means there is harmony between our eye's , full lips etc. For Kibbe what's on your head should not fight for attention. I have had so many hairstyles because I'm an mixed media artist, so when I look at pictures where my hair is a pale shade of a colour, rather than the primary colour, my features become hidden or boring. Watch the film or Google pictures of the film 'Malena' with Monica Bellucci, do you prefer the red or black when it comes to her facial features. Do think both of them work well?

Your outfit tips for each body types are helpful and we appreciate that. I thought that wider silhouettes and oversized clothes are too overwhelming on me despite of being 5ft9 tall, so what I do is I look for clothes that are narrower in shape but not to clingy because if I wear something lightweight and fitted like bodycon dresses it makes me look bloated. Waist emphasis do a great job if my shirt or jacket looks wide on my waist although I don't have any curves to show. Something that sits nicely on my waist to my upper hips. Platforms and chunky ethnic pieces are also a big no for me

(FN) It makes so much sense now why dressing in separates is so much more difficult than in dresses or jumpsuits (less opportunity for a disturbed vertical!), and why I find belts difficult to incorporate without it looking off. I'm realising that it is better if my belt matches the colour/value of my pants, shirt or dress.

A lot of the looks remind me of the French style of adding something masculine to a very feminine outfit. The French love something that breaks the predictable look. A famine tiny print sundress with masculine jacket popped over it.

Hello! 🌻I love your videos. I watched many, still trying to understand who I am. I think that I am "classic" type and in the real life. Always loved classic clothes, suits, skirts and dresses. Not a big fan of pants, I always choose femininity: high heels and dresses, instead of jeans and sneakers. 💃I am wearing classic and elegance clothes as long as I remembered myself. Already 16 years old I was wearing blazers and dresses as I am working in the office somewhere. 💁I did not care that people called me "a little lady", because that kind of clothes I always loved and felt most comfortable with. I guess pear shaped body dictated my style a little bit as well. I always was the same size 1.64 tall and 58-60 kg.If you could tell me what you think about it, would be great, so I would have a confirmation. Thanks in advance!🌺

19:00 I discovered that a long scarf would also work well there. I have a dark violett dress which is over the knee and with long sleeves and it’s very high around the neck (like Aly) and very tight and have a pullover material. So it’s very Heavy. Without a scarf I look a little bit puffy. A belt doesn’t work well there because of the material and my little stomach. So I put a dark red, woolly, small, but long scarf on it. It creates a vertical line and balanced it out.

This is so interesting because when you start learning about your kibbe body type, it's hard to see how you can integrate stuff you like from other types to your outfit. But this video showed how to and it was super helpful. Thank you!

19:20 your advice isn't only relevant to busty SDs - a lot of flatter SDs get their curve from a waspish waist, and the straight line from the ribcage to the hip makes them look boxy. A matching belt is the ultimate solution for accommodating curve, I find.

Man I’m learning so much about my body type and why I feel so uncomfortable in EVERYTHING that’s on trend. The most common (or most shown on social media at least) body type that dictates fashion the last few years is tall, thin, and attractive natural curves and I am zero of those things.

I really love the content you provide. It’s so helpful. Can I make a video request? I’d be really interested in a video for those of us who are minimalists. As a Natural, I really struggle with taking those concepts and translating them to a more minimal style. For example, jewelry for naturals always seems to be big, colorful, with a lot going on. That’s way to “busy” for me. The simpler items I am drawn to would, generally, be considered to small or delicate according to kibbe. Please help ☺️

My face and my body are complete opposites: wide, mature and more masculine bone structure on face but very feminine, soft, slender, youthful and petite hourglass body. My body looks great in romantic, elegant, and feminine clothes so I try and soften my face as much as possible. I don't know if anyone else has this issue and found a better solution.

Could you do a video on how body types can change? I see alot of celebrities who look so different like how they go to a new type from aging or totally new category of type like Kim K who went from natural to romantic. ❤️
@nicolesmith4371
@nicolesmith4371 2 года назад
Aging and weight change does not affect your type. Kim k is not a romantic no matter how much surgery she gets.
@lisamarie7268
@lisamarie7268 2 года назад
@@nicolesmith4371 I believe Aly says in her video she is not a natural anymore. Naturals do not have exaggerated hourglass figures. As an esthetician I have noticed that loss of volume from aging causes women who once had "soft" faces get a more dry & chiseled faces. This doesn't change their type completely, usually a soft classic to classic or soft natural to natural. ❤️

I think it depends on what you see on a person’s body. A video on flesh, bone and muscle of each type would be great 🙂 I’m a slightly tall TR and underweight so I can wear some D line clothing but TR clothing is still my go to. Kim K is kind of the same she wear a lot of N type clothing that has waist emphasis (like the Yeezy clothing or Balmain) but she hardly wears light, soft or flowery materials like a true R.

For gamines, if you wear a top with a loose collar (esp in neutral/pastel colour)...you can add a bold/dark colour outer to balance it too.
