Hello there, nice video, I am star setting up my system for internet radio, I am using a console audio, audio processor. Question, do you connect the pc computer to the console with any special sound card, interface or anything like that? or you just connect the console to the computer 3.5 our put connection? @@MikeRussell Well I was watching Greenland, it's a movie about a natural disaster and at one point you hear some random lady on the radio transmitting her own voice or whatever trying to reach people. So that made me wonder if you could set up your own radio waves or whatever so that people around you could hear you if they're on the same frequency or something. I hope this doesn't sound too stupid cause I genuinely don't have any idea what I'm talking about 😂

This happens all the time in the UK. It's illegal but it happens. Lots of "pirate" radio stations crop up where the broadcasters have their own transmitter, identify a frequency a broadcast illegally. Usually they don't last long before Ofcom find them and seize the equipment. It's not as common now as internet radio has become bigger.

Looks cool, my only question would be how does one listen to it then? Would users visit the host URL you entered in the settings to hear it? If so, does that play within a browser or does it load in a local media player?

It's highly possible but you'd need to have the radio station running locally with the correct hardware for this.

It depends on your podcast. If you intend to just record you solo then you could get a USB mic and record straight from that. If you'll have multiple guests then you'll want XLR mics and a mixing desk. Also you may want to consider whether or not you'll have guests via Zoom or other online platforms.

Hi Mike thank you for your help, hope you are welll, I am sure you are now inundated with these questions or maybe not. I own a small Theatreboat, venue in London on the canal and waterways. due to the virus i have had to close my doors. Really trying to open it up again digitally, I would like to know how to set up a radio station as maybe this can build help keeping going for my artists, crew to potentially collect donations for them. I am trying to figure out how to set up a radio station.. Getting a bit bogged down. I have downloaded ladiocast as I have a mac. do i need an account with some to be able to gain the radio signal? then ideally i would like to go via my current website. I have a mic / mixer as i have a PA in the boat for the live shows we were doing. what next eek help?

In order to play music on an internet radio station you have to be licensed with the relevant agencies. In the UK that's PRS and PPL and artists are looked after by these bodies. Make sure you are properly licensed according to the area you're streaming from.

Hi Lynne, in the UK you will need PPL and PRS to stream music which you'll have to apply for before you commence streaming.

It would not be possible to upload to RU-vid as copyright would flag the music played.

Hi, broadcasting internet radio via RU-vid probably won't work for you as the copyright algorithm will quickly identify copyright material in your stream and shut down the stream.

This is for internet radio. Here in the UK, once you have appropriate licensing sorted out, there are companies that specialise in transmission for analogue and digital radio.

You would need some way of uploading your music and also someway of connecting to record your links. Having a website isn't essential, you will get a stream URL which people can listen to use

It goes without saying that your first thing to do before attempting a broadcast is to buy the appropriate licenses.

You need to have licenses for the area that you are broadcasting from to cover the fees for broadcasting copyright music,

Hi, the simple answer is no. You would need a specific license from a service like Lickd to use a copyright song in a video but your chances of streaming live radio on either of these platforms without being cut off are low.

You can just setup Airtime yourself for free, a little older version but it's still all what you show, on a Debian (older release too). And it works flawlessly. Takes a bit to compile and work out the bugs but it works great

Hi Basil, it's highly unlikely this would be a waste of time as your license wouldn't cover you to stream over Facebook so Facebook would cut the stream within a very short period of time.

Mike, if I go down this road to create a streaming radio station, can one make money doing this? Does one need the Rocket Broadcaster or simply the Airtime Pro setup? Are people listening to your stream by connecting to airtime? To be honest I haven't even heard of that before. Is there even an audience for these stations when there is Pandora, Spotify, etc.

Hi Bill, Internet Radio can make money, but can also lose money. It's like anything I'm afraid there's no definitive answer. There's a lot of work that goes into running a successful radio station just as there is with a traditional radio station. I wish you the best of luck.
