you're correct. fortunately all the fonts are usable but not all the elements, you have to make sure you use free elements so they are available to free canva users
Thanks for the video, but I wish you would have showed the process of uploading to esty. I still am not sure on what you mean by uploading a document with instructions that they see
Hi there! I've personally gotten his question a lot so I think I'm going to create a tutorial of it on my channel but I will try to explain it as best I can here. After you open your shop, go to "dashboard". Then go to "add listing" on the top right. This is where you add in your photos, titles, tags, etc. Scroll down and you can select "physical" or "digital" products. Of course go to "digital". Then scroll all the way down and it allows you to upload the files that your customer will receive after they purchase your listing. I hope that makes sense!
@@SandraDi So does selecting ‘Digital’ make all your documents editable, (even PDF)? ... I saw a tutorial, to make documents editable and she did something in google docs. ... very confusing to beginners lol x
@@SandraDi hi were you able to do a video on this tutorial. Seems like the most difficult and confusing thing ever. I don’t understand how the customer will get the clickable link instantly. Please do a tutorial.
I've seen this asked several times in the comments, and I just watched another tutorial (Awakened Entrepeneur) which answers the question about whether your customer will be able to use your Pro elements without starting a trial subscription or actually purchasing one. The answer is no, they will not. So make sure you do not use any of the Pro elements (the ones with the little crown on the bottom right-hand corner) because it won't work for them.
This is great! I have been thinking about adding editable signs back into to my shop. I used to customize each and every sign (first day of school, etc.) years ago and I had to stop offering those because it was too time consuming! This is a much better option! Thanks for sharing!
Thank you for watching (: Ah yess, I used to do custom baby signs and things like that when I first started and I just needed to find some other way to allow the customers to do it themselves. I personally prefer Corjl over Canva but it has a monthly fee.
@@marelysburnes6051 Just make sure it is clear in the listing that you will be editing the file for them. I would upload a statement that explains the digital file process and that you will edit and send after purchase.
This was a great video, but sending a shareable link with a free Canva account will send the same file to every customer. And if ever a customer deletes or changes anything, it will be changed for the next customer and so on...I read online that you'll need a Canva Pro account to send editable "templates" of the file. That's how each customer gets their own copy without changing your copy or other customer's copies. I saw a lot of questions for this.
I have used Canva a lot and know where the lock button is, but when someone goes to edit the file, they can just "unlock" the clipart and move it wherever they want. How do you recommend solving this? Also, how would you control people editing at the same time?
Attach pdf or word on how to use the file how to edit the file and clickable link for them to paste and access file to edit. Can you show us an example on what the word document would look like with all information.
Hello! Thanks so much for the tutorial! I do have a question though. 😅 Let's say I do sell a lot of my templates to many customers. The link they get that able them to edit the file in Canva is the same. How can I make sure it will not effect the file and once one customer edited it, the other one won't"mess up" his/her editing? I hope it make sense...🙈 Thank you in advance!
Hey. Thanks for the video. The only thing that annoys me about canva is that the files are not 300dpi when finished, they are web size. How do you get around this??
Questions: What other programs do you use to create editable files? Is canva the easiest for customers? What happens if a customer edits the file, will the next customer see the previous customer's work/changed design? Is there a way to automatically send out a fresh link to each customer?
I prefer to use Corjl which I have a video tutorial on as well although there is a monthly fee. It makes it super easy for the customer to get the files and edit themselves with no extra confusion about the editable file. Basically you wouldn't send a new file to the customer, you can use the same edit file, however if they accidentally save it as the original file instead of just downloading and printing then it might affect the original edit file. Thats why I suggest creating a duplicate just in case someone saves through to the edited file. What you will want to do is explain in your customer info sheet that they can save a copy before editing the file if they plan on keeping the file in therir saved folders. I hope that helps. (:
This is a great video and it helped me so much, thank you lots!! I have a question. In most of my designs I am using the one month free version of Canva Pro, do I need one year subscription to sell my products on Etsy? Thank you!!!
When coping my template link then viewing it afterwards. The whole Photo/ template won’t show in the viewing part. (As if your customer was viewing the link) It cuts off part of the design. How do I fix this?
Hello Sandra, you mentioned at the end of your video that you sometimes go back to Canva, what other software or sites do you use for this editable templates?
She has another video called “how to sell digital products on Etsy using corjl.” After watching that video I see why she switched because Corjl allows you to lock elements like graphics so the customer can only edit the text, BUT it’s a monthly paid program and canva is free
Hi! This video is very helpful. I was just wondering, if I made the template using a Pro account and used elements and fonts that are accessible for Pro only, would those who gets the link that are using a Free account still be able use these elements and fonts on their copy?
I'd also like to know how that works. I'd assume they wouldn't be able to use anything Pro, which stinks for font reasons. But I wonder if Pro elements work when it's "locked", since the buyer can't really do anything with it anyways.
I am interested in hearing @Sandra Eide take on this as well. I just sold a template using pro elements and when they tried to download, Canva said they had to pay for the premium elements I used.
hi can someone help me I am trying to made my daugther party invitations but I don't know how to made the invitations to print the size I made them (5x7) am using 8.5x11 paper and is printing as big as the paper 😔
Thanks for the info! Quick question- is the editable link the same for everyone who downloads it? I'm wondering if everyone is editing their information from the one editable link and it will continually be changed and also reveal customer's information?
Hello Sandra. I have a question. I sell editable templates (invitations 5x7) made in Canva, but I don't know how to set up the template in order to save pages having 2 5x7 desings in one A4 page How can I do this in Canva? Also what do you think is better to sell invitation templates or edit the templates for the client? Thank you so much!
Thanks for sharing! Will the customer be able to save the clip art to make something of their own or move it around? Would a good way to prevent that be to download a blank copy of the background with the clip art and then upload that so it’s a flat background, or would the resolution be too low? Thanks!
Thank you for watching. They do have an option in Canva to lock specific parts of the document such as the clipart. Or you could try downloading it and using it as a background they can't change. I would check or the resolution before reuploading to make sure everything remained high quality. My video about "blurry canva downloads" goes into how to do that (:
Your video was so helpful. But how is your canva link once shared showing up as “you’re invited to edit by etc”? My link I copied just goes right into the canva document. I like that landing page so much better.
How easy was it for you to get a commercial license? I'm sure the requirements are different for each state, but one requirement from my state is to show that I've made $10,000 within the past year but I just graduated college so I haven't made that much. I would like to start making passive income like this video provides, but am unsure how to continue. Please help!
do you have a video showing you how to actually upload the file to etsy? I'm trying to create editable templates, but I'm lost on the last bit at the end about creating the pdf with the link and how to list it. could you show that process of creating the instructions for the customer and listing it to etsy.
Hi Ashley, did you ever figure it out, I am stuck at the same point, not understanding how to create the PDF as every time that I hit share and copy the link I get the same Esty page that I am on. I would applicate anyone's help on this. Thx Wanda
@@wandayoung5904 I kept trying to find videos that explain it, but all of them leave a lot of things out, and I am very much a hands on, step by step, visual learner. so none of the videos really helped. so in the end i just decided to make all of my editable products as made to order on etsy . especially since they have the new made to order feature for digital products.
I copied the link to a word document. How do I place the picture of my design along with the link so that my Etsy customers can see what they are buying? Thank you.
The verbiage about getting a commercial license is rather vague. What I’m getting is that we can create our own. But not use their templates for commercial use. is that correct?
I don’t like the fact that they have to turn around and sign up for Canva. This would discourage them from buying future designs from your shop, since they can play around with templates in Canva.
Think of canva like a word document. If you email someone a word document they can edit it if they have Word. Same thing here. This is why the customer needs to create a canva account. This is also why she saves 2 copies. Her original copy and copy that clients can edit
Question tho, if you upload this shareable link to a PDF instruction for people who purchase on Etsy. Will it be a unique link for each person who clicks it? Because if you sell if to multiple people and they all begin to edit the document it won't be the original template and it will continue to change?
I think that’s why she saves the original for her and makes a copy for clients to edit. I definitely see potential issues if clients start moving around the graphics or if 2 people happen to login at the same time to try and edit it
May I ask a question? Does customers bothers about accessing on canva using their emails? It is a nice way to make products editable and more specific to their needs but the process itself looks a bit long: Copy the link, open canva, access canva. Did you have customers complain about it? I have this only concern about this process.
One artist I watched she uploads to the google drive, and then she uploads into Etsy the link in a pdf document which has information about the product and her business. Make sure with photos of art in Etsy there is a watermark otherwise people can right click and download, also upload a low resolution too.
The 8 by 10 card so If we sold it to a customer three would end up printing one page at a time how do we create example 4 per a4 sheet and provide that so at least they can print 4 per a4 sheet
Great video! Thank you for sharing. I wanted to ask if Canva has a way to classify the graphic elements they can include or I it will show all the assets uploaded? For example, If I design a drinks menu with customizable drink drawings, will the florals from other designs show up in the list of elements to add? Thanks!
I'm really down at the moment trying the premium Canva design and I'm selling it on Adobe and the original designer is humiliated, because I upgraded the flower image with my background to be an invitation background, he just made me a thief and defamed my reputation as a thief by inviting lots of people to bully me . Is Canva's fault with its own design being sold on Adobe?
Hello, this was very helpful! Thank you so much. At 12:47 you open the link where it states they are invited to edit ...my links don't give that page. it only goes straight to the original file. What could I be missing?
You are not missing anything it’s because it’s your account and you’re logged into your sign it if you sign out of your account and open it on a different device then you’ll see the screen
I really enjoy your videos!! I've created an invitation in canva that I want to be ale to sell on etsy. I am struggling with getting a workable link to download onto etsy. I'm trying to follow your video but nothing I am doing is working. I've gotten as far as getting the link on etsy but its not editable. I seem to be missing some steps. Do you have other more detailed tutorials???
I think what you do is paste the link into a word processing file, then export that file as a PDF. You then upload the PDF file to your Etsy listing. The customer downloads the PDF file after they’ve purchased. They can then click on the link to your Canva template as links in PDFs are clickable. Hope this helps.
So when you are about to list your editable item to Etsy do you label the item as a finished product or a supply or tool to make things? This has me stumped.
I list it as a finished product, and then you can put "made to order" or just put the year the original design was made. And the biggest thing to include is that the product will be editable in the description and its helpful to add a picture saying it's a customizable/editable product in the listing photos.
I have the same question, so besides buying a font or clipart, I have to have a commercial license? this is my first time hearing this, can you please explain to us in more detail? it will be greatly appreciated 🙂
Hi Sandra! :) I have a question: when my customers edited the design, it stays like that fot the next customer as well, also if they deleted anything. Do you maybe know how to fix this? Thanks a lot, I really enjoy your videos! ♥
they also need a Canva account to edit. I would be annoyed if I purchased a product and then having to sign up for a free account just to edit. I think it's troublesome for the buyers.
@@kellyt8836 I agree but this is where customer education comes in. Your listing should explain it before they purchase. I’d compare it to word or excel. Customers who buy digital products that are word or excel files need to actually have those programs to edit the documents they bought. This is the trade off for it being a passive income stream. She could make the edits herself and send them to the customer but that would take more of her time & the customer only gets one product. But by making it editable it becomes passive income and the customer has a template they can reuse many times. You could also charge more (if you want) since the customer can use that template for life essentially
You should set it up to where ONLY the text is edited unless you make the clip art yourself. All of the licenses I've seen would not allow the customer to manipulate the clip art. Hoping for an updated version of this video because there are much easier ways to do this - use Canva PRO and deliver as a template instead of edit. And as far as flattening the rest of the design, save the whole thing without text, then upload it as a PNG and create a new image with that PNG plus text, and they will be able to edit the text but not the clip art.
Hi! In the directions for use you would tell the customer to make a copy of the editable link and that would save as a private file to their own library. The main editable link is just the original source file and would remain unchanged.
How can we get this flower art...I used vector flower png. It's not clear after the apply....please can you give a link or some detail about water colour flower art ..where can we get in internet.
Hi! Thank you for the video, very helpful! I have a question though... Is there any way for me to "lock" certain elements of the templates so the customer doesn't change it? I imagine they can very easily mess around with the actual placement of things... So do I have any control over what can and cannot be edited? Thanks!
If you sent them the link to your template, would they be editing the original design? 🤔 What happens if you want to sell it to a different customer? Would you use the same link? Nice video BTW!
Hello thanks for watching! You can use the same edit file. But explain to the customers to create a copy or duplicate before editing and saving if they do want to save the file in their folders. That's why I always suggest to save yourself a copy of the file as well just in case anything gets edited and saved through to the original by mistake. I hope that helps. (:
A commercial license is when you pay the owner of something (in this case the creator of the artwork) to use their product. A commercial license allows you to use their artwork in your products which you then sell to other people. So a commercial license is different than a user license where you can just use the artwork for your own personal use (you can’t use it to sell to others). Every artist or creator can charge whatever they want to license their art so the cost of getting a commercial license will depend on what the artist who created it wants to sell it for. And they may put limitations on what you can use it for, basically you just need to read the licensing agreement before signing to see if they restrict you from using it for online products or something else. An example would be a sports team logo, let’s use the Patriots for football. You can’t sell mugs on Etsy with the Patriots logo. The Patriots own that graphic & you would be violating the law. You would need to get a commercial license (aka pay them for permission to use the logo on products). A license for a pro football team logo is obviously going to be more expensive than most artists selling their digital artwork.
Hi I’m wondering if you could tell me how the whole commercial licensing thing goes for clip art because I’m really trying to start selling and I’m not sure how to get the license for the clipart
Hello! I just made a video on this topic to explain commercial licenses. Take a look (: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-QVDGrqokVb0.html
Alright I figured it out by myself. You need to select the "Share a link to use as a template" which this requires a pro account. This way the next customer wont be able to see the others design and your original design stays the same.
Thanks for the tutorial! So if you have a Canva Pro account, do you have the commercial license to use Pro graphics/clip art and images? It's difficult to find a decisive yes or no in the places I've looked.
Thank you for your comment. I also do not know the exact answer for this. It is under my understanding that Pro accounts have commercial licenses, however, license specifics vary and for an accurate answer I would suggest contacting Canva support and seeing if they can clarify. (: I hope that helps
If you make something with the Pro account to sell on Etsy, if the customer does NOT have a pro account when they go to edit there will be a watermark on any Pro Element you use.
