Is there a simple way to target people that have gone on to a hop link/vsl that started watching it and then exited out ? I want to advertise a direct sales pages for those people with a cloaked URL. Great content and I’m just getting started so I’m so grateful for people like you ! EDIT: I don’t know why anybody watching this would dislike the content .. 🙄
The best video so far! Thank you so much for the detailed explanation. You have a subscribe and many likes from me! I have one question. I have already set the pixel long time ago and in pageview event i have tracked many pepole till now. If i create a custom audience for a certain page today (for tracking people in the past 30days), will all the people who visited my page before creating that custiom audiance be included? Will the information from the pageview event be used for including those people even through they visited my page before setting the custom audiance or the custom audiance will start tracking from today? Thank you so much again!
This is so much value, my question is the Facebook custom audience must you have a Facebook pixel? Must you need Facebook pixel to use the Facebook custom audience ?
Good video for an overall view of how to create custom audiences. I've also watched the video on creating Lookalike audiences. There is one thing I'm still a bit hazy on and it will make or break my use of these tools. I am an author and I advertise my books on FB. I write in three different genre including, horror, fantasy and Christian fantasy. I have run ads on all three genre and have had quite a bit of engagement with those ads. Now, I want to be able to create a lookalike audience based on that engagement on my horror series, the engagement being the CTA clickers. I only want FB to build the audience based on the clickers of the horror ads. I do NOT want them to include people who clicked on the fantasy ads and most certainly don't want to include the people who clicked on the Christain fantasy ads. I just created an ad based on what I hope is just the horror readers, but somehow, I have a feeling my ad is being show to people that read fantasy or Christian fantasy. I don't recall there being a step in the process to prevent this from happening. Did I miss something?
Hi Ben, thanks for the detailed video. i'm stuck in the audience creation though.. on your video it shows you can specify "all website visitors in the past X days". on my ad account, I don't see this option; only "all website visitors retention X days", which is vastly different. I followed every single step you showed and I'm getting something different.
Trying to create a look alike audience, but it keeps saying my custom audience is too small...is this because I tried to create a lookalike audience too soon after creating the custom audience?
@@neilcrawford3780 yes that could be the case. I would give your custom audience 30 mins to populate and then try again. It could also be because your custom audience is too small. You need Facebook to be able to match at least 100 people in a country to be able to use that custom audience as a lookalike audience.
Hey Ben, when i try to create a custom audience under the customer list tab i get this message: You've reached your ad account maximum. You can increase your limit by making a payment on your business account. See your ad account limit in Business Manager (go to Business Settings, then Business Info). My business account is payed current and ive never run an ad through the ads manager, only the basic ads that come with a business page.
Hi Ben, If you're creating an audience for a video of 19 seconds what option do you recommend selecting? People who viewed 3 seconds or 10 seconds or watched 25% etc? Just subscribed really love your videos very informative.
Ben, i just love this video. i just want to add one more thing, if you could have added the timing also in the description for the specific topic, like website custom audience starts at 10.30seconds of this video. so that dont need to watch full video. thats it. but it is still awesome.
Perfect Explanation Ben - One Question What is your recommended audience definition for custom audiences ? It'll be very helpful if you answer this as I am bit confused here.
Can you create CA of ATC and Purchase seperately then just exclude the Purchase CA on the detailed targeting? I know it's kinda hassle but just a question
Hi Ben, I really appreciate what you are doing on this channel. I‘m creating custom audiences before launching my FB ads, but I have one problem that almost all our sales come from Facebook. We have more than 30K FB likes and almost all our audience are from FB. When they want to buy our products they just write us a message. We make about 200-300 sales a month just from FB messages. So the main problem is that I do not have an email list of my clients and do not have data about my previous customers (Basically I do, but only their Facebook names) Talking about website traffic, we have installed Pixel only about 3weeks ago and in that time about 1k people have visited our site so I guess it‘s not enough to create a custom audience from that data right? So what would be the best alternatives for your opinion in our situation? I‘m thinking that the first custom audience can be the people who wrote us a message on our FB page (because almost all our clients write to us). I am also thinking about creating LAA from that custom audience. In total I would like to create 4adsets in my campaign 1) Custom audience of people who wrote us a message 2) LAA of this custom audience. Can you suggest me what else should I target? Maybe create a custom audience from our FB page likes and then create LAA of this audience? Or maybe it 3 add sets would be better in our situation instead of 4adsets? I would really appreciate if you can give me your honest opinion. Thank you in advance, Ben.
Super! Great video with very clear and easy to understand information on creating custom audiences. Thank you for taking the time to explain this sort of complex topic.
When you create an audience, does it matter if you create after or before the ad runs. So if I run conversion ad and I get visitors to my website and I want to target those that didn't fill out my form and submit. If I create the audience at a later date will it still pull that data from the pixel or can you only grab those visitors from the time the audience is setup. In other words, is it best to setup the audiences before you launch any ads or does it not matter. Or course this is assuming you have your pixel setup correctly and working on your site.
I was looking through all new option they added to FB page custom audience. those option are really complicated to understand. took me 2 hour just to make notes on them. In end only CTA, messenger is worth it.
Hi Ben, very new to all this. So it was very pleasing to come across your video that finally explains Custom Audience in "simple English". Thank you. Question - before I saw your video, I created a Custom Audience (Facebook page visitors) however also added a created Audience - interests, age, gender etc. The Ad appeared, however, Facebook won't permit for the Ad to be shared - Facebook explanation "... the owner only shared it with a small group of people". Is the Audience too small? Is there something else I'm not understanding? Would appreciate your help. Thanks. Angelo.
Thanks for this Video! Question - before I saw your video, I created a Custom Audience using customer list with phone numbers and campaign which I created is REACH(campaign objective) by using this customer list. Unfortunately there is no reach. any suggestions? my requirement is I need to target the customers with phone numbers. could you please help to achieve my requirement. NOTE: the size of the audience I tried is 20 as well as 100+ still no reach
Cheers Ben, very useful. I have an unrelated question: Wanted to ask, if an ad is performing well eg. 'above average' how would you go about scaling the results increase daily spend? duplicate the well performing ad ? or something else Thank you
Hi Ben, I would love to use your great video. Unfortunately my business page Create Audience doesn't show any of the options in your video. Do you know why? Thank you
I am selling traditional spices to Ethiopians and Eritreans living in the US. I have tried a couple of FB ads but didn't work very well. I tried to create audiences which are interested with Eritrea and Ethiopia. I have got full names of potential customers of Eritreans and Ethiopians from different community sources. Can I advertise to them as custom audiences? if not how could i use FB to advert to these people. Thanx
Hey Ben! Great video! I have a question, should we be testing one audience per adset or multiple audiences per adset? How do you find which custom audience is best if you have multiple?
Hi Matt, you want to go with one audience per ad set in cold audience ad sets. With warm audience ad sets, you don't need to work out which ones perform best - you want to advertise to all of them because they always deliver better results (provided you don't spend too much). Therefore you can include them in one warm audience ad set.
Hi Eugenia - sorry about that. I forgot to include the links - I'll do that now. Here's the lead ad campaign video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-V00WepEPU-0.html
Hi Ben and thanks for the amazing content. Quick question, is there a way to disconnect an old an obsolete data source (old domain) from my pixel? What about deleting a pixel entirely and starting over? Thanks
Hi Ben! Great video by the way! And loving all your content 👍🏼 Just a quick one you mentioned briefly about “Low website traffic”. I know Facebook says “your ad may not be delivered” but is there a chance it will be delivered regardless of the warning? Many thanks Will
Hi William, thanks a lot. Yes, I don't pay much attention to those warnings, they are often wrong. I would run the campaign and see what you generate in terms of impressions.
Hi Ben I have watched your full Vedio I m from India its a Very informative vedio thanks I just wanted to know which Type of custom audience is best for cafe or shakes shop.
Great video, I have a list of 30,000 people would you recommend segmenting it into smaller custom audiences or just creating one Audience? I am creating a brand awareness campaign and I want to keep the cost low.
Hello Ben, is there any way to create a custom audience just from a list of facebook user ids? Or if not, any tools I can use to get other info about these users so that I can create an audience
As always, great content Ben! Pls advice on this: Can 1 run two ad sets consisting of LLA based on past purchases( pixel data) in one set and LLA based on the Email list of past purchasers in another? Will the ad sets compete with each other if both the ad sets are used in the same campaign? Thanks in advance :)
Yes you can do that and I wouldn't worry about them competing provided they are in the same campaign. I wouldn't run them in separate campaigns because then the competition would become an issue.
Hello, great video, helped me a lot, but I have a question. I am creating FB ad with a VIDEO. So my goal is that people are shown this video ad ONLY ONCE. So the first time the video is shown to them they view it then the video is NOT shown to them AGAIN. So I thought creating custom audience for FB sources>Video and EXCLUDE that custom audience rather than including it. So can I use FB Sources>Video custom audience for THIS ACTUAL VIDEO FOR THIS CURRENT AD itself that I am creating NOW. So my CURRENT ad has a video and THAT'S THE ONE I am creating custom audience for NOT some other video. Hope I'm clear on what I am asking, thank you so much for your video and your help.
Thank you so much for replying, so just to make sure the video for THIS CURRENT ad itself THE ONE I am creating is THE ONE I am creating custom audience for, NOT some other video. Will that work, thanks again for your help.
Great Video! All the details very cleared Thank you Ben for the great info. Do you have a video for email marketing strategy and how to set up? Thanks!
Thanks Ben, great video. I created a custom audience tonight. I can see it in my list of Audiences as a "Custom Audience" but then if I go to my page and try and "Boost Post" one of my posts, it isn't showing up as an option to use. Are custom audiences not available to use for Boosted Posts? Appreciate you time and videos!
Hi Dann, yes that's right. You'll need to create your ad campaign within Ads Manager - there's a lot of functionality that isn't available when you just boost posts.
@@BenHeath thanks very much. Do you know if Facebook made some big changes to the reach yesterday. I had huge success doing boosted posts to "People who like your page and their friends." Now suddenly yesterday that option is gone. My reach would be 5000 to 15,000...now today I am trying to do some boosted posts where the reach is 100 - 200...what happened?! Appreciate the help!
When using customer file (uploading email list), should you keep re-adding your email list and make a new audience (and therefore ad set) whenever you get more emails? And if so, when? I got 3.500 email subscribers now, as my list for the lookalike audience, should I keep uploading every time a new 100 or so subscribe? Thank you:)
Is it possible to update a Custom Audience after you create it from a customer list? For example, I have a list of open house attendees/leads. I upload this list as a Facebook Custom Audience. For every new open house, I would like to upload new leads to this Facebook Custom Audience. Can I use Zapier to automate the process? Can records in the Facebook Custom Audience be updated/modified/deleted?
What's the difference between a customer list and an email list? I have one list which has all information on it. Should I separate them for this activity?
For some businesses these will be the same thing. But others have email list from people that have opted in for lead magnets, signed up for a newsletter, etc. That email list will contain their customers - but will also contain a lot of other people that have just signed up for free stuff.
I don't think so I'm afraid. To create a custom audience from website traffic you need to be able to install the Facebook Pixel and I don't think you'll be able to do that.
Hi Ben, Thanks for this video. I sell my items on my own website (Shopify platform) as well as Etsy. When creating a custom audience of purchasers based on customer lists, should I combine these or keep them separate. Whether they are separate or not could determine whether I market to them with the same ads and also whether I create a LAL audience based on a combined list or separate.
Hi Jan, great question. I would combine them provided you can put them all in one category (such as previous customers). That way you'll have more people to retarget and more data to create your LAL audience from.
@@BenHeath Hi Ben, Thank you for the feedback. In addition, do you recommend combining country data or keeping them separate? And to create a customer custom audience you use an email list -- should you also create a custom list using the purchase pixel and combine that audience with your email lists? Or is this not wise.
If I'm just starting a business for an app, what would be the most effective way to collect data and target a specific audience if you don't already have an email list or website traffic?
Hi Sam, you'll want to create a custom audience from all app users. Then you can use that as a source audience to create a lookalike audience. That's a very effective targeting audience for an app based company. You won't be able to do that straightaway of course - but once you have a few dozen users you can get started.
Thanks so much for this very informative video. I have one question. is it possible to create a lookalike audience for a competitor's website - too target them? Thanks for your help.
Hey Ben I am always look forward to your videos and keep up the good work. I watched this video today and realised I had so many phone number of my previous clinetel and u decided to go ahead and create a lookalike audience however I am experiencing an error whereby when I click on custom audience facebook tells me that I should be and admin of the page of which I am an admin so I cant go past that point. Kindly help.
Thanks a lot. That is a tricky situation - you'll have to contact Facebook about that one though I'm afraid as it sounds like you're either not an admin or something has gone wrong.
Hi Ben, Great Vid. Would you recommend doing a lookalike audience from your web leads too? (even though we only have around 200 web leads since started)
Hi Ben, huge fan here. can I just ask u how can I automatically obtain all my existing customer data such as emails and phone numbers to make this list??
Hi Ben, your videos are useful, I have a question regarding custom audience, I have 115 ATCs, that's what I see in the Ad Manager, but when I create the custom audience for ATC in order to create the lookalike audience, under the Size column, it says, Pending Size not yet available, can I still use this ATC custom audience to create the lookalike audience? will the ad will be running later on if I use this lookalike audience in my campaign?
Great video, Ben. I have a question, If we run an engagement AD through FB's audience and an custom audience AD via someone viewed your video at least 25% simultaneously, will all the new FB users who engaged in the Engagement AD be captured for the custom audience AD?
Hi Tam, I don't really understand your question I'm afraid. Are saying that if you run a video ad to a cold audience on Facebook, you can create a custom audience from people that have watched 25% of that video? If so, that's correct.
@@BenHeath so if I both ADs simultaneously, everyone from the cold audience will be captured in the 25% video? Like it will constantly update as new people watch.
Ben, It is truly awesome...thanks. a question here. At 35.27 you created a lookalike audience from a custom audience lead 180 source, At 37.15, you insert the custom audience lead 180 ...is that a matter of preference ?
Thanks a lot Chong. It depends which audience you want to target. If you want to target your custom audience then you should ad that to your ad set. If you want to target the lookalike audience, you should add that to your ad set. Hope that helps :)
@@BenHeath Thank you so much, literally just updated my list. I stepped away from fb for a few months as my ROI has not been good as compared to Google Ads which were driving more sales but your content has me excited and updating the way I set up and approach my ads on fb. Thanks so much for clear and easy to follow videos
Hey Ben, thank you so much for the amazing tutorial. When I landed on your video I was looking into how can I create custom audience of cart abandoners for certain product. So I’d include Add to cart event audience and exclude those who have completed purchase. But I want to be more granular and create this audience based on products so I can serve them an Ad with the exact category they looked at. Is it something I can do on Facebook? If yes can you guide me through how. Thanks in advance for your support
Thanks a lot Nasab. Yes you can do what you've described. You'll need to use custom conversions instead of the standard events. You can then create a custom conversion for each product. So you could have: Product A Add To Cart Product A Purchase Product B Add To Cart Product B Purchase Then you can create custom audiences based on those custom conversions in the same way I did in the tutorial. I've created a video on how to create custom conversions: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-QLtItXVIGJs.html
Hey Ben Thank you for this awesome Video! My one question is that why is my "customer file" feature is unavailable. It is greyed out. Although i am already running page likes ad for a week now.
Awesome content 👍 quick question about lookalike audience. If I have enough visitors to create a lookalike audience, should I stop my original purchase campaign for a specific interest target? Create a new campaign with only custom audience and no interest target purchase campaign? Seems to be burning too much money with multiple campaign running on a single ad? Any tips?
Good question, I would create a new ad set that targets your custom or lookalike audience and run that alongside your existing ad set. If it outperforms your existing ad set you can pause your existing ad set after a few days.
Ben Heath are you suggesting that i shouldnt create a new campaign with a lookalike audience? Say I started of with an add to cart conversion campaign. My pixel for this campaign has enough conversion, should I edit that campaign's objective or create a new campaign with a new objective for the lookalike audience? There is always a myth that if you create a new campaign, the data received from pixel will not be carried onto the new campaign.
You wouldn't be creating a new campaign with a new objective - because you are using the same objective: conversions. I think you are referring to which event you're optimizing for - Add To Cart, Purchase, etc. In which case I would just create a new ad set within that campaign and adjust the new ad set accordingly.
Hello Ben, thank you! Is it poasible to see demographic stat of custom audience? For instance I created audience: buyers of product 1 and want to see demographic info and graphs of that audience. Thanks! Jan
Hi Jan, I don't believe that is possible for privacy reasons. When you run a campaign to that audience you'll be able to see data about that audiences campaign - things like demographic info. That might be a bit of a workaround.
do you have to keep updating your custom audiences or LLA's , if i make one for website visitors, do i have to make another in a week or two to get the new data or will facebook update automatically?
Great question and the answer is no. If your custom audiences are based off Pixel data (as opposed to uploaded lists) they update automatically. As do the corresponding LLA's
Hi Ben , any idea why i am getting this error You've reached your ad account maximum. You can increase your limit by making a payment on your business account. See your ad account limit in Business Manager (go to Business Settings, then Business Info). thank you Raz
Hi Raz, that sounds fairly self-explanatory to me. Facebook is telling you can't create any more ad accounts but you can increase that limit by making a payment.
@@BenHeath thank you Ben for getting back to me right away , ,,i fixed it,, Now I am trying to use the custom audience as it is explained beginning of your video. I have CSV file which i uploaded and i as try to run my campaign. I get the following error: ""We found 1 error. Please fix the error and try again. The minimum age you have selected can't be used. Please choose a different minimum age and try again" The error message look simple and i know where it is but i can't change it as it is greyed out and the massage is " The option is fixed and can't be changed". This is the only error message i get Cheers, Raz
How do I add more names to an existing custom audience facebook list that I have already uploaded to facebook? Or do I have to add more names to a new list then upload that new list?
hi ben, i have a silly question. after we add the mailchimp list as a custom audience, facebook will keep updating with the new subscriber in the mailchimp? or we need to update it from time to time? and the same thing for the traffic we set for 30/60 /180 day
Hi Youka, no such thing as a silly question :) Mailchimp custom audiences do not update automatically, you will need to do so from time to time. If you create custom audiences based on Facebook Pixel data (such as traffic) they do update automatically which makes life easy.
It isn't I'm afraid. You could target people that are interested in your competitor if they are large enough to be a targeting option. But that is as close as you will get.
Hey! quick question: Whats the difference between chosing a lead event in my custom audience(for example if someone opted in for a free consultation) and just taking the URL of the Thank You Page of the free consultation? Is it not the same audience?
@@BenHeath If you install the Pixel Basic code between the head tag in the website, does it track automatically a a page view on every page of the website?
