Hello, I want to buy a CNC engraving with laser. I'm ready to spend good amount of money for a good CNC machine. Currently I am looking at FoxAlien 4040. Could you recommend me some good options from other brands?
The 4040xe is a good solid machine. I would suggest adding the laser and perhaps the rotary roller. You will need the Lightburn software for the laser. It’s only $60 and is excellent. One of the best software for the is VCarve Desktop. As far as a sender to control the CNC I suggest UGS (universal gcode sender) or the Openbuilds sender, both are free.
Is the Openbuilds software compatible with the Xcarve machine? I have the 1000 X 1000 Xcarve and Easel software, I like the versatility I see with Openbuilds but I dont want to downloaded it if it will not control my Xcarve.
Great video. I do have a question. Am i able to save gcode on Easel only if i'm subscribed? For some reason when i want to save a gcode it says free trial expired and brings me to their subscription page.
PawPaw, I have the 4040- xe. I was trying to set my exact carving area in UGS and easel using the PC. I hit the limit switches on purpose in both programs but couldn’t figure out how to reset the alarm so I could continue without shutting the machine down. What is the process to do it with out having to shut everything down?
I tried using UGS (from GitHub) and it would shut off in the middle of trying to set it up. I searched RU-vid for videos on UGS installation and set up and I “accidentally” found the Openbuilds program. I installed it and within minutes, I was able to carve my very first 3D project and it came out great. The only issue that I had was that the text did not carve. I don’t know what I did wrong. Could you possibly do a tutorial on using openbuilds? Thank you sir for another great video
They are constantly making changes to easel. If it says you need the pro version then that’s what you will need. You might need to consider another software as you continue to outgrow easel.
