I've been experimenting with various methods of VO, and I have to say that the VO Room in PD19/365 gives among the very best quality results of anything I've tried, including expensive dedicated hardware solutions. It's a limited function, but perfect for basic work when you want excellent quality. Nice tutorial.
I have been having the WORST time trying to record a simple 20 seconds for DAYS. I've spent HOURS AND HOURS recording the same 20 seconds over and over and over again. One would think a paid service like PowerDirector would have the best quality options for producing and recording, as it's what the software is made for. I'm losing my mind. Losing hours of my life. Nothing works. I'm so upset, and it's also hurting my RU-vid channel, cause I can't keep up with making content.
Thank-you Maliek. I'm not sure what is better: your very concise/excellent lessons or your wonderful sense of humour. Learning while smiling (or laughing!) is fantastic! "Good-bye Benjamins . . ." LOL! Thanks!
Very helpful video and easy to understand and follow. Im just starting out and this will be my first attempt at adding an informative slide show to the video I am editing for my RU-vid page. I think it will now be easy for me to add the voice over. Thanks
Wow! Thanks Maliek. I had no Idea we had that feature. It'll be rare if I ever use it though. I've heard MY voice! I don't want THAT on my videos. Thanks again. Jim
Because of the wind and the constant 'music' in the Philippines I had to give up on ambient recording. I have to do voice over on almost all my vids. I have been using my cell phone with a lavalier mic. I just ordered a mic for my PC, so this tutorial came out just in time! (only 2 months until my mic arrives from the US ha ha) 😎
Hi Tito Tim! Yes, it is much more difficult to record "out in the wild". Two months? Yikes. I'm sure you will be excited to receive it once it arrives. Keep up the great work on your channel.
TFS Maliek 👍 I've used this in the past...it works pretty good 😉 I've learned a lot from your other videos tho, thanks 👍 P.S.....I've found that you don't have to mute the other tracks if your using headphones 😊 I normally use a lapel mic either directly into the camera or I use a wireless system in between the two of them when I do videos.....so sometimes I'll record stuff for the audio only (in stereo), then in PD I'll just use the 'Link/Unlink Video and Audio'.....I'll ditch the video portion and use the audio portion that matches the rest of the video I've been making 😜
My own process is: Record my narration, use a time marker to indicate where the narration begins, then tke the recorded track out of the timeline, as well as delete it from the media library temporarily(it comes up as a WAV. file labeled simply as "Capture". Minimising Power Director, I open up my Sony Sound Forge Software and spruce up the audio there, taking out(muting) extraneious noises such as breathing between words, then normalising the narration and saving before reimporting back to Power Director to insert at the time marker where the narration is intended to begin.
@neilforbes416 oops i thought this was the latest video but when i looked at the date i was a year out haha but if you watch DVDs they have a commentary track that is dubbed over a movie or televsion series but it was recorded at a different time before it even was launched on dvd
This might be a good place to ask the group members about some of the microphones that they use to do voice overs. Which ones work well with PD and what settings these use with those mics. I don't Blog and only have done 1-2 voice overs. You might remind us about which mic(s) you use and why it works well with PD.
Great point Chris. I should have taken advantage of that during the video. I will post a question at the top of the comments. Appreciate your feedback.
great video - quick question. when I narrate my long videos. each time I stop , maybe create a fade out or something on the video, then add my next audio, it creates a new audio track in powerdirector, under the one I just recorded. so by the end my audio may have 7-10 lines. I normally select under track 1. is there a way to get all my audio on say track 2 instead of it adding tracks all the time? thanks
Thank you for this. It's very helpful and easy to understand. I've been wondering what is the use of fade in and fade out and when to use it. Also if I have a background music and I want to talk, how will I stop the music. One last question, how will I put different voice overs to different video clips.
1. Fade in/out when it suits your needs, there are no set rules. 2. Use audio ducking to change the volume of music while you speak ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-A5CoLgSema0.html 3. After you make a voice over drag it to the track you want and the position you want
You are the best and helped me a lot thank you from all my heart I need your help If I already have an audio recording for the video, how can I record one or more words, replace them with the original clip, and place them in a specific place
How is using external mixer with usb different. Putting audio tracks to out board & recording adding fx's other sources. Then back on a different track
I have created a voice over. How do I save this so that I can access it for future videos? Love your channel by the way - I have learnt so much from you!!
After you're done making the video, save the project, remove everything but the voice over audio, go to Produce, select the Audio option, select the folder on your PC where you want to save it, and produce it as a .WAV file.
Bero your help needed. When i record my voice through external microphone....it starts recording but after stopping the voice over there's nothing in Timemline.
Thanks for all your content! Unfortunately in this video, my dashboard tools look much different than yours. I can't find my recording room and "F10" doesn't do anything. Any ideas?
Thanks for the video. I do have one question. I have been using the voice over function a fair bit for videos, BUT one thing I've noticed that seems a bit frustrating is that the program automatically records your voice-over onto lower and lower tracks in the window. In longer projects with multiple source mp3s the different voice over audio tracks that I add all seem to get lower and lower over time. So some of the audio will show up on Track 3, then later on Track 4, then later on down to Track 7, and so on. I can manually drag them up to the higher tracks (say Track 2's audio), and I have also found a nice button that allows me to move ALL audio from one track up or down to another. But I can't seem to find a setting that allows me to FORCE the voice-overs to record to a particular track in the first place. This would be super handy, as it would save me from having to manually move them all to the right place later on. Is there a way to do this? I can't honestly understand why the program forces the voice-over audios to lower and lower points on the window -- because it makes it difficult to see your whole project. Any advice on how to deal with this issue?
I haven’t read every comment on here but I think I have a bit of issue. I might have to record voiceovers in my DAW and insert. I have a 16 channel Tascam interface and of course only one channel for my microphone I will use. The interface shows up in PowerDirector 21 but doesn’t get signal. In Reaper (DAW) it works fine and I have a template I created for just voice. Any ideas? I’m going to try again to see as it would be a lot easier to just record on PowerDirector!
@@PDU_Tutorials thanks. I was kinda wanting to know why you choose mono over stereo. Would that make the audio output only mono and not heard in stereo?
@@MasterTheNEC Gotcha. Mono tracks send only one channel for all speakers. However, stereo tracks send two different channels, one for each speaker. It is recommended to use mono when recording vocals. indiehq.com/record-vocals-in-mono-or-stereo/
Love your videos! I'm in the voice over room and had to redo a short segment of my video sound. I deleted the piece that was no good but now it won't record in that segment. What am I doing wrong?
Bring back the part that you deleted. Right click the clip that you don’t want the audio in. Select “Unlink Audio/Video”. Split the audio so that the section you want is by itself. Delete the section you don’t want. Try recording audio again from the beginning of the video clip.
@@PDU_Tutorials Thank you. I already had the audio and vide unlinked. I was recording the voice over and it was fine. But I had to stop for a bit. Left everything on because it was only three minutes or so. Went back to recording voice over and when I checked the volume was lower. I compared all my settings to the part that was correct and they were all the same. I deleted the bad part and started over making sure all my settings were where they were previously. But still that one section would not record properly. I deleted and tried at least five times and finally gave up. I think it's something I did but I cannot locate the problem. I'll be doing a voice over again in a few days and hopefully everything will work correctly. It's just frustrating because I cannot pinpoint the issue.
Hi Maliek - I am really thankful for the great tutorials you provide here. You're a great teacher - you keep it fun and you always share the information understandably! I'm not sure where to ask this question - I have an issue with audio drift in Powerdirector. When I want to sync up separately recorded audio with camaera generated audio, I always do a slate with handclaps up front, and handclaps again at the end of a take. I notice that even when I line up the beginning handclaps perfectly at the start , by the end of a 3 or 4 minute clip, the audio has drifted. If I do the same thing using pinnacle studio, or using movavi, I'm not having that same problem. I prefer powerdirector as an editor but having my audio aligned is crucial bc I'm using it to create live music performance videos. Can you educate us all about how to fix this kind of issue?
What device/program are you using to create the audio? Webcam, camera, program, etc. I’m guessing that the audio has a variable frame rate. This causes drift over time because the frame rate is not constant. Try converting the footage from variable to constant frame rate using a program called Handbrake. m.ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-OH3yn4SDSQI.html
@@PDU_Tutorials awesome thanks for the quick reply. I’ll give it a try. The way I’m recording my performances right now , I do a live capture of my go pro camera video into OBS. OBS is also capturing the audio performance coming thru my Cubase digital audio workstation. While I capture the audio and video into OBS, I’m also recording the audio multi track inside Cubase. That way I can go back , and perfect the mix afterwards and apply gain rides and reverb etc After I mix it, I export the Cubase audio and link it up inside powerdirector. What I thought was really weird is that the other two video programs I mentioned both didn’t exhibit any drift. Maybe there are some settings I need to adjust. I’m gonna try handbrake today and I’ll report back to let ya know the result. Keep those great tutorials coming. You’re the best! I watch your pinnacle videos too. Love learning from you !
@@PDU_Tutorials ok i tried putting the video thru handbrake to set it to constant frame rate and then importing both the video, and the separately recorded cubase audio into Powerdirector. Still no luck. I can line up the beginning handclaps perfectly but those at the end still end up out of sync. And still no trouble with audio drift if I use the other video editors I mentioned before. I'm pretty baffled.
@@petermoonband7181 If that's not the issue I'm not sure what it is. I think it would be best at this point to ask for help on the forum. Make sure when you write up your issue you include that you already tried changing the video file to constant frame rate using handbrake. Good luck. forum.cyberlink.com/forum/forums/list/ENU.page
I saw your video after it was shared to me by someone from CyberLink as I have been having problems putting voice over to a current project using the program on my PC. So far, my problem is still unsolved after several exchanges of messages. I was able to use the voice over option in an earlier project, which I already posted in my RU-vid channel. But with my current project, everything about the voiceover is not working. For some reason, I don't see those 3 dots that you were mentioning about in the program when doing voice over. Plus when I click on 'device,' the program says something like 'wrong parameters.' I am at lost already & feeling like I am wasting my time using the program. Strangely, I don't have problems so far with the mobile version (I got 2 paid subscriptions, btw, on my mobile and on my PC. I wonder what you can advise me to solve this current trouble? Thank you!
Great! Any tips on editing that audio to get the maximal sound from the recording and to make sure it’s loud enough if you also play music in background without making the voice over clip? Thanks !!!!
You can edit both the music (bgm) & the voice overs in a separate D.A.W. (Digital Audio Workstation) However, PD has volume levels below each video track that can be easily expanded & tweaked.
@@CyberEditing yes yes I'm aware of those aspects. I guess I meant how do you adjust the gain setting, threshold, and equalizer to maximize the sound in your voice thank you and how do you make sure the audio is at the same level throughout, for example, 3.0 across the board, even tho some film clips at that volume start clipping ............
You'd have to use a separate program like Audacity (free), Audition, or Audio Director to get the best results. Here is a tutorial for Audio Director ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Kc8LSFkD9UI.html There are plenty of tutorials for Audacity and Audition on YT. Hope this helps.
how do you remove water mark. i bought a monthly plan and after rendering and uploading it says remove water mark. so I click on that but all it does is bring me to cyberlink website and bring up payment methods. I already paid. how do I remove watermark. it says in my video "cyberlink powerdirector" just don't understand how to remove that because nothing is working.
If you had the free version before you bought the full version it might still be tracking the free version. You should contact CyberLink with you purchase info and they can help you with that.
where is the mic that your speaking into like are you close to the screen while you talk or are you just sitting up on your chair orrr??...do you have a mic connected to the computer??
Unfortunately, this did not give me the results I was looking for using my laptop. The sound was really poor quality. Is there a way to record it with my phone and use the audio?
I record two people in my voice overs with two analog mics plugging in through an audio index. I always have to mix to stereo tracks in audacity then put them back in PD. Is there any way to do that in PD19? I used to be able to do it in 15 (I think 15) and PD would overlay the tracks on one another; now if I try to do that PD overwrites them.
thanks for the video. I am trying to do a voice over intro today. However, after I record 5 - 10 seconds of voice, only the first 2 - 3 seconds show up. What is going on?
@@PDU_Tutorials Thanks! I figured out the issue! I realized that I had my USB mic plugged into a USB splitter with my mouse and keyboard. I plugged my Mic into its own USB port. Problem SOLVED!!
I don't know how to ask my question.. so I'm going to describe what I'm trying to do and hope you can help! I want to record a game .. that part is easy. But then I want to superimpose (with a green screen) my webcam on top of that game and narrate the game that I played. How do I do that?
Use the PiP Designer. Place the footage of you talking on a track under the game play track. Double left click the footage of you talking Select Chroma key to key out the green screen Select Scale to change the size of the footage of you talking Select Position to move the footage of you talking where you want it to be. You can watch my Green Screen and Reaction tutorials for more info.
I was just editing my video when powerpoint suddenly crashed and now i lost a lot of progress since I didnt save it from the last one. Any tips on how to get it back?
