In this video, we learn how to create transcriptions of audio or video files using the openai R package. This package provides an interface to Whisper AI, an OpenAI model accessible through the OpenAI API.
The transcriptions created by this model are extremely high quality and very affordable. If you're someone who creates videos or podcasts, this might be your new best friend :)

Hi, I am using whisper to transcribe Spanish audio to text. However, whisper detects my files in "galician" (which is a regional language of Spain), how can I insert a line in the script so that it only transcribes to spanish? thank you!!!!

This is so amazing, Just a question though as i have never used open ai APIs : Is there like a trial period to use the APIs first and then attach payment information for use ? Or we have to have payment info attached from the day we start using APIs on our end ?

Great question! Yes, there should be trial credits available (I believe a few dollars worth, which should be enough to get started and play around a bit with the API). Once you enter a payment method, you can also set limits so that you don't accidentally overspend. For example, I have mine set so that it sends me an email notification if I've spent more than $10 in a month, and a hard cap at $25/month so that I never accidentally spend more than that. I don't think I've ever spent more than $1 in a month, though (I use it for small personal projects).

Hi, it seems my comment wasn't sent properly😅: Love the video, but I'm getting an error for curl::curl_fetch_memory about a ssl/tls timeout error (without givinh a specific time), do you know what I might need to do o resolve this?
