I haven’t seen your video yet but…. I’ve wanted a hypno for a few years(?) now and this video has me trying to figure out how I can get the money to buy one.
I really really want one of these to project onto my walls and be immersed into some crazy assed back room voodoo lounge Middlesborough empire type Friday night while I am jamming away. Not for anyone else.... but just for me. Probably the only module that exists that really is unique to the core :)
This is EXACTLY what I was looking for! The fact that I can dedicate a MIDI channel to send notes and CC data to trigger and control the visuals with this thing is seriously blowing my mind rn. I can just designate a track on my master sequencer for visuals and I'm good to go! Maybe add in some envelopes and clocked LFOs too 😀
I bought this right before Christmas. A beast! Been having so much fun with this, and with the latest (as of Jan '23) firmware the patching of hue control makes this a visual dream machine for accompagning my eurorack performance case. Love it!
Great vid! Your pure joy messing about with this is infectious-takes me back to the old days of getting toasted and trancing out with Giess for Winamp🙂
oooh yes, thank you for a banger of a lesson. was always curious about video synthesis, but never wanted to look into it because i figured it would be a whole new setup i couldn't afford or make room for. this is going to bring some much needed spice into patching my system again!
i bought one of these like six months ago and i personally don't know how much "serious creative use" i'm ever gonna get out of it but it's hands down the best toy i've ever owned. and i don't mean that in a disparaging way, i fuckin love playing with this thing
awesome vid! iv had one for a while now and this device is a TON of fun! many hours have been spent just staring at a screen, slightly turning knobs. i built the DIY version but they are def worth the price
Ha exactly - I had several evenings just staring at OBS while hypnotising myself with mad patterns. Properly addictive as you quickly come up with so much stuff, then you can hit record and print a little loop
In before you drop an epic Goatrance set upon us all ;) ngl, this is hella cool. Way better than dumping a few vco's into the XY of my old oscilloscope. Not that that's a bad look (Hi Jerobeam Fenderson!), but this has a level of control and variety I've not seen before. And for a damn good price too!
Ive always been super fascinated with video synthesis, this is really cool. Ive had my eye on the LZX Chromagnon for a while but it is on the pricier side for me
The fact that it is capable of animation on it's own and you can then create movements over THAT is wild! Just like live Painting! Insane Video Module. Crazy trippy images you were making...lovely presentation of this Looney-Tunes visual machine.💥💡🎛🍄👏🏽🎶👁♥️
Nice one, new ideas! thnx :) i have the first version and bought some hdmi skinny connects.. mounted in my pulplogic lunchbox and carefully cut and mounted an hdmi on the side.. powered via eurorack connection.. its pretty slick.. also stuffed a spring reverb mounted to the inside "floor".. making the most of this tiny box :D
I’m dying here man… Just imagine pairing this with a doepfer 197-3 and flooring everyone within a two mile radius with a sick and heavy synthwave jam. \m/- N.
Lovely demo! I already stumbled upon another video generator some months ago and said to myself, nah, don’t spend money on another craziness. But after a synthesizer night in the club I find myself coming back to Hypno today and just ordering one 😂😎🤘. Oh, did I mention, your trippy demo is really really great!
That's pretty much exactly the setup I usually have going. I use a webcam pointed at my TV for an extra layer of feedback (much crazier, really unlocks this thing's potential if you use it properly), then I have the EoC of the function generator slowly cycling through oscillator shapes on the Hypno, and the main output of the FG (with heavy attenuation to keep it very subtle) modulating the Hypno's feedback, and all internal modulation turned off. I try to set it so that right as all the feedback resolves into a stable pattern, the shape shifts again and throws things back into chaos. The thing pairs excellently with a 0coast but I certainly wish I had a few more attenuators.
That is very cool. Looks like a wonderfully designed module. Great layout. I have no use for this but want to find one :) Can see this having a big effect on modular performers. If it somehow came with a little projector built in I’d buy one today. That’s probably future technology I’m talking about though. 22:30 wow I hope they threw some good money at that demo.
Hi, what a cool, inspiring and hypnotizing "manual" - Thanks. I looked the Hypno up on the webs tire and there are different configurations - which one is the one you use here? Thanks again.
I've got a question, it's got lots of stuff it can do with that usb port, but can it do them all at once? Could you plug in a usb hub and have a midi source, video files and webcam coming in simultaneously?
I’ve used it with the Phillips Pico Max. Very tiny projector with good brightness and throw. HD and good color saturation. What’s also awesome is that it can run off of an internal battery. Get a beefy enough power brick for Hypno, and you can go totally wireless and do a show in the woods. That’s what I wanna do.
Not tried but you definitely could yes! Of course there are also built in feedback modes with offsets and stuff to help create runaway madness all in the unit
The percussive sounds are actually the Roland TR8, though there are quite a few 808-y modules which will cover the sounds you hear if you wanted to do it all modular! MUCH more expensive to do drums in modular than just buy a TR8 if you do just want trad Roland sounds (to be sequenced in a trad way)
This is great - I want this too. I've been fooling around with an Eyesy and it's really not doing it for me whereas I can see where this could take me. Great demo :D
i wasnt interested in an eyesy until i got a video mixer (panasonic wjmx50) and now i love it. it needs a lot of processing to look good tho. but this seems pretty dope out the box.
I’ve only used my Eyesy a couple times. Totally agree on using it with external processing… but it really seems like for a lot of the presets you need to be actively “playing” it. Like it won’t do a lot if you just leave it unattended. Is that your experience too?
@@retrothing yeah totally, unless you have audio running into it. but i'm not crazy about a lot of the presets. but the ETC presets are cooler imo and can run on eyesy
Not easily as there isn’t a special trigger system for it, it just uses amplitude! And that audio is better run thru an envelope follower, so it’s a bit better to trigger it with CV than audio!
One of those moments - I need to dig more into the extra controls for the feedback modes, as offsetting them is what makes it go all Jackson 5...fractal worlds await!!
Damn I started my video synth setup with a Hypno and if you thought Eurorack audio was expensive get ready to spend serious time considering if it is worth it to spend $2000 on an out of production LZX module and then get angry your reverb offer fell through because someone paid even more for it. Additionally, enjoy the spaghetti of converter boxes you will need to get shit in and out, and the literal magic hell that is CVBS sync and figuring out why the fuck it works or does not work based upon the moon cycles or the density of free electrons in the atmosphere. Hypno is cool though, it’s a good jumping off point.
Not sure what you mean by this since I have had to jump through mad hoops to make Hypno available in this pi shortage (Lead times for bulk first party pis are over a year still) but Its mostly figured out now and we have a bunch of stock and we already have parts for another batch in house right now! - Ron
@@SleepyCircuits hey Ron, sorry I didn't mean to slight you or the Hypno - love the product - the last few times I looked last year or before it was out of stock everywhere (for good reasons) and money is a bit tight now, also I'm mad at Korg for overcharging on the Pi-based synths (OPSIX, etc.) I hope to order one from you soon are you almost out?
@@SynthAddict Thanks bud, all good just thought id chime in. TBH I dont actually charge a markup for the Pis just the actual Hypno boards to account for the many years of programming, design (and education) this thing required to make. BTW If you have a compatible Pi already theres also a No-Pi version we offer. FYI Retailers are out of stock because we stopped selling with them for the time being. This was due to the music homies there (understandably) not really being able to help customers so much with the video realm. I opted to take the cut they would take and invest it into hiring a dedicated support person since I would much rather sell less of them but make sure people have a good experience with the device/brand. This move has also allowed us to keep our price point the same through these last couple of years of intense inflation and rising import taxes. There are about 50 pre-built Hypnos in stock as of writing and around 150 more being built in the following weeks as we get assembling!
@@SleepyCircuits cool, thanks man - on my list - it's a very clever device and the USB video option mentioned by @mylarmelodies is a great feature I was happy to see
@@SleepyCircuits hey Ron, thanks so much for developing these, it’s exactly what I’ve been looking for. I just hope they don’t sell out before I can save up for one!
I just got a Mavis and can't stop grinning. What was that little midi controller you teased us with (33 minutes in)? edit: nevermind. just saw the link. Thanks!
I looked but don’t think there is one (at present anyhow!). I know what you mean, it does seem initially a lot for a small thing, but the alternatives are slim and arguably you might not need anything else. Compare that to the cost of building a video modular for example…Curious for other suggestions as it’s a world I know little about!!
I've been looking for something like this for my live setup, give an audience something look at other than the top of my head. The other things I've looked at just didn't give me what I was looking for, will just have to buy a hat or something
Switching feels quite immediate to me, depends what your goals are though of course! Also there’s smidge of latency with CV processing - what you see in the vid is what I captured though and I think it still looks and feels quite unified (sound married to vision). But Im sure a true analog system would be instant (but also many times the cost possibly?!)
@@mylarmelodies i think you can get 1/10th of a basic LZX support module for the same cost lol there are some really cool hardware vidsynth devices out there (check out lofifuture! he has a channel here on youtube) but they are often either or both of: way more expensive, built by 1 guy and take a year to get lofifuture is the 2nd of those but i am really excited to get mine when it's finally done...
Although very different in vibe I feel duty bound to share this for anyone who hasn't seen it - chiptune synth tunes in 1971, done optically!! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-UmSzc8mBJCM.html
