Best video and tutorial ever!! Clear video, precise instructions, no fingers blocking the stitches so you can see what the instructor is teaching. Counts each row and the video time line is fantastic. Thank you sooo much. I make hats for a charity and learning a new hat easily is important.
Thank you! Newbie here, was looking for 'teach me how' easy to follow video and I have found yours. Appreciate that very much. You did great! Thank you for all your work! Love that you are sitting with the camera behind so we can see real-time what you are doing. And those time stamps (as well as the speed change option) - wowza! Please keep sharing things like this one for various patterns (how to step by step).
Best tutorial!! I'm from Indonesia 🇮🇩, and I'm at the beginner levels. Your tutorial is really simple and easy to follow- so glad that I found this video!!!
Hello. This pattern was my 1st attempt at making a hat and I love the way it came out! Thanks for the easy to follow tutorial. I was wondering if there is a matching pattern for a scarf?
Hi I had a question! Could I add a cuff to this? Please answer ASAP idk what I’m thinking but if you still answer comments on this video I hope you see mine!
+Lesley Nichols yes absolutely!! Depending on the kind of cuff you are planning to make you might have to make the hat shorter to accommodate the length of the cuff
Hi! I know it is hard at the start but it will be worth it in the end! :) I thought I'd suggest this channel called Jayda in Stitches. She does crochet projects for all wether you're a beginner or are an advanced crocheter. She does step by step tutorials and if you have any questions about the project, Jayda is always there to help you with your question. So I totally suggest her. That's all I have to say, and sorry if I wasted your time in anyway. REMEMBER TO NEVER GIVE UP! ❤❤❤❤
I just did a second hat, using the same yarn, same color, same pattern. What I really love about your tutorial is that you are facing with your back to the camera. I have a horrible time when the person teaching the tutorial is facing me. I did not know how to use a marker or how to tell where the second chain from the hook was or how to count stitches. I am now trying my hand at baby booties. I find myself going back to this tutorial to refresh my memory. As I grow old, so grows my mind! Thanks, a million thanks for sharing...
Fabulous tutorial!! I made my first beanie in a couple of hours following you and it looks awesome! I had given up with other videos and today I found yours and gave it a try. THIS is how a tutorial should be! Thank you. 👍🏼 up and followed.
Thank you so much! Your feedback really helps me on how to do my next tutorial if I know what is working I will keep doing it :). I'm so happy you had success with it!
Thank you for this tutorial, your directions were easy to follow. However, the hat I finished barely fit my nine year old grandson. What must I do to enlarge It? Thank you!
I absolutely love your videos! I was able to bust out 2 beanies in a day just by listening to exactly what you said. I have found that the measurement of the beanie is perfect for everyone but my husband. He’s got a big head. What would you suggest for making it just a little bigger? I don’t want to add too many stitches and it end up huge! Thanks for your help 🥰
Hi Ashy so sorry not getting back sooner. For this design pretty much one increase round of 6 sts will equal about 1 inch bigger around. Perhaps measure your husbands head to see how many increase rounds you will need. You will probably also need to do a few more rounds to make it long enough. Feel free to reach out again. Cyp
@@prettydarnadorable thanks so much for getting back to me! 😊 I finally figured it out. Had to use a more stretchy yarn (the one I was using didn’t have much give) and a bigger hook!
@@ashybhee1917 that works too! I absolutely have my yarns I find more stretchy than others. I think most people think I’m crazy when I say that lol. Have a great night and stay cozy!
@@prettydarnadorable you’re totally not crazy lol and thank you for the amazing tutorial! I have used this to make every person in my family a beanie now 😂 have a great night!
Hi ..thank you for the video ...please may I ask the circumstance of the crown circle and the measurement of the circumstance of the finished hat .Thank you for your help .
Good questions! The thing that does not change is the number of stitches. So if you start with 12 each round increases by 12 which will leave a big ripple at the top of the hat. To get the proper width of the hat you have to stop once reach the correct amount of stitches. Then the number of rounds determine the height of the hat so that doesn't change or your hat would be too small. Not sure if this all makes sense but wanted to try to answer for you.
No matter how many times I do this I get more of a cone or bowl shape after the first 4 or 5 rounds as opposed to the circle seen in the video. This makes the beanie impossibly small. What am I doing wrong???
So sorry I'm very late getting to this happy to help can you send me a picture to pretty darn adorable@gmail.com and I'll be happy to help. It could be that you were just crocheting too tightly but let's have a look if you're still interested
I was taught that info between * * are the repeat. When I come to the end of the round, I end with 2 SC in the last stitch instead of 1 SC as stated in the repeat. I do end up with the correct number of stitches for each round though. I had to do a few more rows of increases to make a larger hat.Thank you for your video and pattern.
Hmmm did you complete it? The increase rounds would look like a potholder. Once you do the sides without any more increases your pot holder will become a bowl :)
This is a great tutorial very easy to follow. Thank you so much. My son is 6 ft 10 and he kind of has a big head. Can I add another increase round and maybe make it a little bit longer.
Beginner here, thanks for the videos, I just made your messy bun hat today and it’s awesome!! Can you tell me if the pattern would be the same if I wanted to make this beanie with larger chunky yarn size 5? Or can you tell me how to make the messy bun hat without the hair space? I’d like to try a hat for my husband. Thanks again!
@@prettydarnadorable thanks so much for the reply and video link, I just made one! Unfortunately I didn’t have a 10 mm hook so I used 9 mm and the hat is way too small. If I want to increase, do I just do another round of 11 and 1 double crochet or do I do the extra increase earlier on? Thanks again!
Thanks you so much for your tutorial. The shape became very beautiful but it is a bit small. Maybe because the yarn was thinner. Is there a way to mesure it? So that the size will be suiting?
(edit) I just tried this pattern again and after the first row do double crochets instead of single crochets. Also use maybe a bigger hook, I used size 6mm. I'm using yarn weight 3 and the hat is coming out perfectly!
Very clear instructions, love that they are written in the comments box but tried three different ways and different sizes and none gave me an adult sized hat.
+teresa payton oh no I’m sorry to hear that did you check your count at every round? And you use the same size hooks correct? I think it may come down to tension in which case I would recommend doing an additional increase round because we’re already using a 6.5 mm hook. It may be the only way to get it large enough they should make the hat about an inch larger
Teen sizing typically is the same as adult but if they have a smaller head, I would stick with this tutorial but use a 6 mm hook that will get the hot about an inch smaller. Hope this helps.
after round ten, what was your diameter? I am using a different size crochet hook so I did more increased rounds, but I am having a hard time determining if the sizing is right to continue with the rest of the hat
Hi Mary I'm sorry I didn't measure - but this is a great tip for future videos I will add that measurement so people using different size hooks can move forward.
Hello, maybe my question is very silly, but i would like to know,in i use 4,5mm hook, do i have to increase more? For example one more round? Thank you!
You can use any size hook. Just keep measuring it until you have the size you need, then you can stop increasing. Ex. As you are increasing, keep measuring across and multiply by pi (3.14) and this will give you the finished circumference. I hope this helps 😊
Made it today and its a nice hat, wouldnt fit an adult though but I'm going to give it to one of my little brothers as a gift. I reccomend increasing more if your making it for a adult. Over all good pattern though.
Did you change hook size after completing row 25? It says to use a 6.00mm hook after this row. I switched to 6.00mm hook and noticed that the circle is becoming larger with each row. You might have to take apart and start all over again.
@@afton1955 its been a month since i made it id haft to just do another i cant remember if i did that or not. But for me my hats need to be like 20-23 inches around or it doesnt fit me at all. Whats the measurements of yours?
Awesome tutorial! I am new to crocheting, and this was the first video on crocheting a beanie that I was able to follow. Your speed and explanations are perfect! The beanie turned out great, and my husband loves it! I am starting my second one now. Thank you
Hi Wanda - I'm sorry. There is a setting in youtube that allows you to slow the video down. You can choose how much. Perhaps that might help? Thank you for the feedback too!
Aloha from Hawaii 🌺🌺🌺 Thank you great video, I love how you had the written pattern below video, thank you for taking the time to do that 😁 subscribed!
Thanks for the video. The tutorial is very easy and clear. Can you tell, what should be the crown diameter for an adult size? I'm doing with 4.5 mm hook and increased the round upto 8sc+2sc. But the diameter is just 5.5 inches.
When I made this hat, it was way too small! It was more for a baby than an adult, but I think it is because I was using a smaller hook? Great tutorial though!
This tutorial was the easiest I found and easy to understand, however I somehow managed to make a child’s beanie even though I followed all the instructions. I hate my life.
Oh no :(. Don't hate your life! I'm sure it is something very easy the good news it you got it made! So happy dance for that. It is most likely one of three things. Yarn you used - what did you use? Lost stitches along the way - did you count? Or tension... Let me know the answers and we will go from there. But bravo for getting it done! Cyp
New subscriber ! Love this tutorial ! My son likes shorter hats (just above the ear ). What measurement don you suggest before switching to a smaller hook ?
Oh that makes me so happy to hear and welcome! Don’t switch to a smaller hook because that will actually make the hat too small to fit around the head just crochet about 2 to 3 rounds less seeing as it’s your son you can always try it on and either subtract or add rounds until you get the length he likes.
I'm so glad and Yes you can! Depending how thick you want to stripes you can definitely do it - not sure how much you crochet but just make sure you do it at the end of every round. :)
I love this tutorial and this is so easy and I love the fact that it's a single crochet cuz I'm good at that but I mean I am in intermediate but still cool still love it amazing for beginners
Thanks for the feedback Yvonne - it is good to know it helps :) I will continue to list with the videos now! The timestamps are really useful too and they only work when watching it on RU-vid :) Enjoy our weekend. XO
This is the only video I've been able to follow and actually get results but for some reason it was so small. Like just barely got it over my 5 year olds head. What did I do wrong? Anyone have any advice?
My sister boyfriend wants me to make him a BENNIE......I have problems all the time. I'm not sure if it's the MAGIC CIRCLE or me just make a hat in the rounds. I love the BENNIES
Excellent tutorial. I messed up so many times, I lost count. It was well over an hour before I figured it out and even so, I finished the hat in under 24 hours!!! My first official hat from a pattern!!! Previously I'd crocheted as a total amateur as I remembered my aunt teaching me when i was a kid and I'd sorta been doing it wrong and my work didn't have a very professional look so I decided to look up a proper pattern/tutorial. My work, for the first time, actually looks professional! And even though I had to rip it out 10+ times cursing myself every freakin' time, thanks for the tutorial!!!! (Part of my problem was probably using multicolored yarn.)
Oh yes multi is hard to work with as a beginner. My tips would be to use light coloured yarn and a hook on the larger size. As a beginner your tension may be on the tight side and the larger hook will help to compensate for this making your stitches easier to work into:) I am so happy it all worked out!
Brilliant tutorial, great hat, thank you so much, I want to make a trapper hat so I am going to use your version and add flaps, hopefully it will work out, thanks again :)
I found your video in the ocean of other crochet videos out there, however, you stand out to me. You're so good at explaining, and have such a lovely voice. How I would wish you had made a video showing how to make the same hat but for a newborn. 💜I am a total beginner, so I'm afraid I'm not capable of changing patterns myself. Have a wonderful day and Merry Christmas! 🎄
That is great! And fast - it takes me at least five hours - I know I am very slow. And hello to the UK I actually work for a company based in Brighton :)
I'm at the 3rd round and I'm worried I have a hole in the center and after reading the comments most people don't have the magic circle hole... what did I do wrong?
Hi Blair - it could be your gauge. Nevertheless - I would recommend doing one more increase round. What size hook did you use? Wondering if you maybe you could go up a hook size? Either or just not both ;)
@@prettydarnadorable I used a 6.5mm and I increased two rows. I noticed with Red heart yarn that some colors are slightly thicker than others. I’m trying it with black instead of the gray and it’s working with a 6.0mm and two extra rows. (I know smaller needle, bigger hat weird) I also stopped tightening the stitch so much (been doing amigurumi too long). Thanks for the quick response.
@@blairking1360 I have found that with the yarns as well! Especially the Charisma - I made my messy bun hat again and it wouldn't even fit my granddaughter. I think some yarns are always consistent and some just aren't. I actually found years ago that black yarns seem to always work up differently too. Anyways.... Happy Holidays!
