Double whatever yarn you're using with the same hook as her. You can also triple the yarn if the yarn is super small.

could you make this with a regular 4 weight yarn? or would it come out smaller..

Yes! It would come out a bit smaller, to get the same size I would suggest doubling up the yarn and using a 5mm crochet hook :)

Use whatever yarn you have and just double it if it's too small. Follow the pattern and hook size. You should still be able to get around the same size.
