You are the first crocheter I've watched that holds their hook the same way I do. Usually people try to hold the hook with the end pointed up at the ceiling. I have always held my hook just as you do. Thanks for the video.
These are really fun looking! I know there are lots of granny square themed patterns out there (bags, blankets, etc) and this style of granny square seems like it would suit almost anything! Definitely gonna check out the blog post for the blanket you showed, it's gorgeous!
They are super versatile! Changing the direction of the little triangles can make ALL sorts of geometric patterns from these diamond type squares to arrows, pinwheels, diagonal stripes - it's really cool! 😃🧶

I did a bit of crochet many years ago and I'm getting back into it again, but as a true beginner. Thank you for these generous, well-made videos. I know as I progress I will be grateful to have you as a guide. But I need to be patient and not jump ahead to try every stitch you show. 😂
I did something similar for a blanket I was working on. It was a granny square that just kept going out to blanket size. I started off with a few rounds of solid colors, then I did the triangle effect with 2 similar colors (hot pink and candy pink) for a few rows, then crossed the colors over for another few rounds. When I switched colors, I started in a corner that was a solid corner where I didn't switch colors for the triangle effect and resumed another triangle effect with 2 more similar colors (lilac and grape soda) and did the same as I did with the pink. After that I did the final rounds in a solid color to stabilize the blanket.
I love it! So simple yet elegant at the same time. My son bought me some Bernat premium yarn for Christmas, teal colored, and that would be perfect for this stitch. Easy and so soft, would make a perfect scarf!! Thanks and much love Robin! 🥰❤🧶🪡
LOVE solid granny square, over regular grannies. The two-tone square is lovely. The hiding of the floating strand is so smart! Thanks for showing us. With all granny squares, I usually reduce the number of stitches in the corners by at least one. I dislike the hole that extra stitches make in my work. Such clear instructions. Thanks.

I'm halfway through a log cabin granny square blanket at the moment, but have to sit under the air conditioner as it's hot in Australia!
I really love this! I also like to quilt, which this blanket reminds me of. Another two-tone crochet square I watched holds the 2 colors together and is super cute, but seems like it would make a very thick fabric. I like this lighter fabric much better, for a great throw for cuddling up to watch a movie. I also think it's fabulous that you gave the credit to another artist for a great idea that you passed on to us! (I also watch her videos.) ❤ Cheers!

Two toned solid granny squares is a great idea and you can do so much using different colors to make unique patterns! Know myself though, changing colors with each round would become tiresome and I would probably not get very far with the project. Trying to figure out a way to get around my lack of patience, I wonder if this could be done as a C2C with the increase portion in one color and the decrease portion in the second color. As a beginner crocheter, I haven’t made a C2C but have watched videos so I might be completely wrong. If you see this comment and know the answer, please let me know. This seems like a good project for the soon to be cooler weather!

Beautifully done, Robin, as usual. I like to keep my squares small because in the past when I've made them larger, I've had puckering from the middle going outwards. I don't know why that is but it always happens. Luckily, I like smaller squares. I don't know if you have any advice about "puckery squares. 😂 Thank you for a wonderful tutorial. 🩷
Hey Robin, in the end you mentioned different ways to join but on your channel there are only join as you go shown. Do you have any tutorials as to how to join after you crochet a bunch of granny squares later?
Absolutely love this! I’ve ordered the yarn to replicate your blanket with these squares. I’ve watched your tight-join-as-you-go tutorial - with these two tone squares, did you join each colour block first and then join the blocks together or did you join in rows?
I joined individual squares, one row at a time (so 2 rows forms a full block) - to keep myself on track I part made a lot of the squares in advance so I could double check I was joining the right one in the right place I won't lie, using the tight join as you go was a TOTAL PAIN but the overall effect is so cool I couldn't not use it (if that makes sense!) For ease I'd advise joining or sewing your squares together after you've made them (unless you're equally as much as a glutton for punishment as I am lol)
Thank you - yes I think I may try it with one tone colour squares first 😂 I love the effect you get from it but I think I’d end up making a mistake and attaching the wrong sides to each other 😆 I’m excited to get started ☺️
