I’ve been looking for the perfect evil eye granny square to make a summer bag with and this design looks perfect because there’s less holes and all the rounds are circular. Thanks for making a great tutorial!
I'm curious as to why every single evil eye thing I see, shows the iris in blue. Is there a reason? I like your pattern, has less holes than thers I've seen
Glad you like the pattern! I actually had the same question when I started working on this and decided to research it. Turns out an evil eye can be different colors, each with its own meaning. A blue evil eye, specifically dark blue like the one in the pattern, signifies protection from bad karma or evil spirits. I'm making a blanket with these squares so I guess I'll have tons of protection from bad spirits lol!

Ok, so I THINK (not entirely sure about this) you can start by chaining two and putting 12 double crochets into your first chain. Once I get home, I'll try it to see if it'll work.
Ok, I got it! 1. Chain 4 2. In your first chain (or the fourth chain from your hook), put 11 double crochets. You should see the circle taking shape as you make the double crochets. 3. To close your circle, you're going to slipstitch into the top or third chain at the beginning of the circle. Then I think you should be able to do the other rounds as normal. So basically the first chain of the chain 4 is acting as the magic loop. The extra chain 3 is the turning chain for the double crochet, which is why you only need to put 11 doubles into the first stitch after that. If this doesn't make any sense, lemme know (I am NOT great at explaining things lol). But I can post a video tomorrow if you need a visual reference.
