Hey, I wanted to mention here just in case it trips anyone else up but foundation chains aren't used in this pattern! I use foundation double crochets because it makes the leg warmer more stretchy at the top (and thus more comfortable to wear imo). Foundation double crochets (FDC) basically replace your foundation chains & 1 row of double crochets. I teach you how to do that in the video + how to seam the top of it and how to join it in the round
Okay so that means I can replace this foundation double crochet by one row of single crochet then one row of double crochet? Cuz I really don't understand how I'm supposed to do these FDC 😭
I wanted to make these in two days for a concert im going to, and it took two full days but im like 90% done and an absolute beginner, thank you for the tutorial
i really appreciate the CCs!! thank you for taking the time to make them- you don’t see that very often as people often focus on quantity rather than quality and skip accessibility ❤
I usually make patterns 💖💖 bc it’s a lot easier for me c: esp with more complicated designs, it usually makes more sense as a written pattern (imo at least). I’ll def publish tutorials too, but only for beginner-friendly, easier projects
hi! i finally finished these yesterday and they turned out perfect hehe. although i think there is a mistake in the written pattern (23:00 time stamp in the vid) under the section for row 1. it says (after first increase) to "double crochet 2" when u need to dc up until the last stich and then, as written, increase again. im sure it's just a typo cuz you explain it correctly in the video, but i wanted to point that out if someone were to skip directly to the end. i love your channel. keep up the great work
I’m so happy you liked this tutorial c: And I’m pretty sure you’re right 🤧 (I can’t remember bc I made these a while ago lol). Tysm for pointing this out; I’ll pin it!
Omfg kill me the part where u have to go between increas rounds and dc round I thought u had to increase the DC in-between each increase round and ended up with a flowy circle 💀😭
we all start from somewhere! I remember when I first started I couldn’t crochet a straight rectangle (I’d accidentally drop/add stitches 😭😭). I’m happy you learned from this tutorial & hope you can grow more as a crocheter c: 💖
thank you for another great video (and such a cute pattern) :D i'm so excited for the upcoming shruggie tutorial, i've bought some DK yarn and 5mm needles!
I ♡ this leg warmer very much, thank for your sharing 😃 I started crocheting this project today😊 I would like to ask if every round is also turned over, including the 5th and 6th rounds? Thank you
yeah! you'd turn over after slst to close the round c: this is because if you don't turn over, it ends up creating a diagonal seam along the leg warmer, which I feel like doesn't look that great :') so turning over after every round will prevent that from happening!
i still dont know how you guys can count stitches so easily. idk what makes it to hard for me but i cant for the life of me tell which if the millions if little holes is the one i need to put the hook through. 😭 the lik scarf I'm making already has countless skipped/ dropped stitches
hello! I believe I used around 160g total for both! this number is only for the shorter (the white) one. If you were to make the longer one, you'd probably need double the amount c:
I've made one I'm about to make another, but this pattern is very easy to follow until I got to the part on how to tie the bow that was kind of confusing, so I did it another way but other than that it was very easy!
I’m happy you could figure out another way to tie it c: if you follow another tutorial of mine and you have questions about it, feel free to contact me and I’d love to help 💖💖
those look so cute! i am going to make them for autumn for sure! I just have one question : how much yarn do you use? Cuz I don´t know if 100g is enough 😭🤍
hi ! Am I the only one struggling so bad making those leg warmers ? I’m not a beginner in crochet but i feel like there’s something i don’t understand in the tutorial… Mine are really really puffy with the one increase/no increase part and it doesn’t look as puffy as mine in the video i don’t really understand why. I’m not a fluent english maybe i just missed an information 😔
I'm not sure why you're having trouble too ;w; maybe because it's too many increases for you? If you'd like, feel free to send me a photo on Instagram at by.redbean, and I can see if there's anything wrong!
I literally fall in love... I want to crochet it but could you please give the names of your yarn? Or show of what exactly they are made of. I'm really bad at choosing yarn that's why i rather ask than fail again ^^ thanks in advance
yeah, ofc! I used hobbii friends extra fine merino wool (sport weight yarn) & hobbii kid silk (lace weight yarn). I used both of them at the same time. It's not super affordable yarn though; I was gifted this c: For a more affordable option, I recommend drops baby merino (sport weight yarn) & drops kid silk (lace weight). If you live in the USA, wool warehouse is the cheapest shipping option when buying drops yarn c:
hi tysm-ty for your patience as you await a reply c: I made 29 rows total not including the front post/back post double crochet ribbing and the last single crochet row 💖
I'm a beginner but I catch onto stuff really quickly so I was a bit surprised when I couldn't understand this tutorial. I don't know how to finish the first row, and it keeps turning into a circle-like shape. Do you have any raw clips that aren't cut or help me know which stich I should go into? I thought these were really cool and I'm kind of frustrated that I can't figure it out. :(
yeah this tutorial was one of the first ones I ever made so it's definitely not the best one out there :') what you can do if you're not understanding the foundation double crochets is to foundation chain (basically, "chaining"), then join them into the round before making a round of double crochets (you can find tutorials on how to do that on yt c:). you can also dm me on ig @by.redbean with photos as it makes it easier for me to figure out what might be wrong with your work
can you repost this but with the video mirrored for all us lefties out there? it's really hard to follow crotchet tuts in general and this would help a ton, I love your designs so much
that's a really good idea! I'll see if i can mirror the video, then I'll probably just send you a link to the unlisted video c: I'll start doing this with my other tutorials too where I'll just include the mirrored version in the descriptions
Hi! The first ch 3 can count as a st if you would like! It honestly depends on your personal preference. I personally never count chains as a stitch c:
How many rows did you do for the body? From the opening to the bottom length? I tend to make my projects either too big or too small and I’d like some gauging to help me along the way ❤❤
hey there, I'm so happy you like my content! tbh, I'm not even sure if I'm the best person to go to with this question XD especially since I don't really know what works best for a channel, etc. I guess the only kind of advice I can give is that you should just post what you enjoy (because it'll make the video filming & editing process easier). You also don't need expensive equipment! I film on my iPhone & edit on a free program (Davinci Resolve). But yeah! Just make what you like & I hope the algorithm favors you
i recommend trying on the leg warmer periodically just to make sure it fits you exactly as you'd like since everyone's bodies are different. c: (thus, I can't give you an exact measurement.)
hi! i recommend taking the measurement of wherever you want the leg warmer to hit you on your leg! so for example I took the measurement of my calf, then subtracted I think about 1-2" to accommodate for stretch. I found that this method worked out for me best c:
When making the foundation, I did what you did in the video but then after that I'm kin of lost! Which leg am I supposed to put my crochet stick into to restart the pattern?
if you turn your row kind of to the side so the sides of the stitches are facing you, it's the bottom 2 legs! c: if you dm me on Instagram by.redbean i can send you a photo of what i mean! and also if foundation double crochets are difficult for you to do, you can instead do foundation chains + 1 row of double crochet c:
hi of course you can! you would just make more rounds/crochet until the leg warmer is as long as you want before making the flared part of the leg warmer c:
here ya go! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-_VD4vkQMMfo.htmlsi=kLdtrk5hTnqOHcad also if you find foundation dc difficult, see my pinned comment c: you can always replace it with a foundation chain + 1 round of dc!
hi! I used 50g skeins of wool yarn (specifically, friends merino wool from hobbii). you'll need at least 100g if you want a short leg warmer, but more if you want a longer one c: I'd just buy a bit extra just in case.
Idk if anyone's willing to help but im super confused where the second double crochet goes and how we're supposed to just continue the pattern afterwards. Anyone have any tips?
@@jeonginsbiggeststan7954 I made this video a while ago so I'm unsure what you mean by 2"! I think maybe I was talking about gauge? So like the amt of STS I have in 2" or something like that?
sorry about that ;w;w;w; if you lmk exactly what you're confused about, i can explain it in the comments (i made this over a year ago so idk if you're referring to the small bow on the bottom or the lace up bow at the top?)
I do this because (for me, at least) crochet stitches stretch a lot, especially if you use stretchy fiber like wool or acrylic. And you don't want the leg warmer to continually slip down your calf. However, if you feel that you don't need negative ease (aka subtracting 2" from your calf circumference), feel free to exclude that from your calculations c:
@@byredbeanthanks for responding Doll. You are so right. I wish I had followed your directions. The top of the warmer does not stay up but I will make a tie for the top so I can tighten up the warmer on my calf. I have completed one so far and it is beyond adorable. Thanks for taking the time to do this video.
I buy my yarn from woolwarehouse (i love drops yarn) and I usually receive yarn from hobbii! but tbh I don't really have a specific brand I stick to--I've used yarn from multiple different places c:
Hii! So just one question, how many stitches did you have at the end of the very first round? Really good tut btw, the pattern is really cutee (≧▽≦)
If you’re talking about the foundation double crochet, there are probably tutorials out there that are more in depth if you’d like to reference those 🤧 this was one of my first tutorials so it’s definitely not the most clear and I apologize for that :’)
@@Whos.aeinnnnnn Oh no 😭😭 well if you do need more help, feel free to contact me on instagram by.redbean 🤧 you can send me photos there so I can see if I can figure out what went wrong c:
you genuinely lost me within the first few minutes of this like why dont we just make chains and then hdc?? like what this is stressing me out and i wanted to do this as like a calming thing😭😭 /nm
If you read one of the top comments, I address this issue! If you don’t want to make foundation double crochets (fdc)/it’s hard for you to understand the tutorial, you can instead make foundation chains, then follow up with a round of double crochets (not hdc!!) to ensure your finished work will look exactly like the design c: The reason why I recommend fdc is because it’s stretchy, unlike foundation chains! It’s much more comfortable to wear imo. but again, if you don’t understand how to make them, feel free to sub with foundation chains + 1 round of dc. I apologize if the tutorial isn’t the clearest because it was legit one of the first ones I ever made! Although I think I’m a lot better at making tutorials now, I’m still much more suited to pattern making. I decided to make this design a free tutorial instead of a full-on paid pattern because it’s relatively simple & I didn’t want to make people pay for it c: I hope this makes sense! Please let me know if you need further assistance.
@@byredbean ohhh okay ty, i hope my comment didnt seem like i was blaming you, rather its just that some crochet patterns i just dont get. however it was really nice of you to take the time out of your day to try and help me better understand!! ..also sorry i didnt see the pinned comment when it was literally right in front of me😭😭🙏🏾
