Love your videos! Quick handmade gifts are all I have time for- and can still do something I love. I do agree with the others. It would be so nice to see the finished product on a real person. The dress form only gives an idea of what it would look like. Hikers are a tough crowd lol!

I have a question please Jennifer as I am a beginner suppose I wanna do this cowl with different yarn , cotton for example which hook should I use. I am always confused how to match the kind of yarn I am using with the correct hook. Thanks in advance. Love your tutorials.
@tracynail4432
@tracynail4432 4 года назад
Not Jennifer but the size of your hood doesn’t change based on yarn material, just yarn thickness. You should be able to find the recommended hook size on the packaging or the website, and eventually you’ll just get a feel for the yarn sizes and what hooks to use. You also might find that some hook materials work better with some yarn materials, but I find that aluminum hooks with handles that I make myself work just fine. They’re cheap too.

I'm so confused. I used a Q hook, size 7 yarn, chain 30. Mine came out at least twice the size of the one shown on the pattern. My only thought is that Bernat 7 and Red Heart 7 aren't the same? I mean it's still pretty and it's still really fast to make. But it's MUCH larger then the ones you made.

So if a size 6 yarn is used instead of 7, should the chain, or hook size increase?

gwendo1ynP Michaels always has sales going on, especially if you become a rewards member (which is free). Walmart usually has a decent, cheap, selection as well, plus the accessories for both are fairly cheap. I got everything I needed to start crochet (hooks, scissors, measuring tape) for less than $20. Plus many yarn/craft magazines have amazing sales. They'll have beautiful skeins for 50-75% off.

Have you tried Redheart Super Saver? It's a worsted weight... but can put two strands together, even three.... and Walmart has it really decently priced! Like under $3.00 usually.... just have to watch the yarn some of it isn't as good quality as the others. Also Michael's store brand is pretty good... some of it is a little 'rough' but once you wash your product it's so much better! Best luck!

For example that cowl you started it with 30 stitches in cotton if we start with e0 chains it is too small to pass from the head not like the wool you are using not that flexible.
