Really helpful tutorial - thankyou. I used the same colour yarn as the edge of my granny squares and did it from the back of the work - it gave a really nice effect - not invisible but completely flat - which is what I wanted. (Really good tip to use stitch markers in the corners btw!!)
Thank you so much for this! I have been trying to join two panels for a multicolor sweater (using the ripple stitch) and the mattress and whip stitch were not doing the trick! I used this guide but I modified to use a treble crochet because it matched the ripple stitch and now I have a seamless looking join!

great tips. I would love to see this with the 'invisible double crochet'. I assume you would put the right sides together and only grab the back loops, but would be good to see it! :)
If you worked through the back loops with the right sides held together, the join should give a nice effect on the rear side but would be invisible from the front 😊
Would this be a good join if I want it to look the same on both sides? My squares look the same on either side so I want to join them to look the same on either side you look at it.
This is a really good join if you want to avoid a bump (which you would get if you crochet together using double crochets for example) but it won’t look completely identical on both sides unfortunately 😊

Would you do the same process if you started by going through the top and back loop for the foundation chain? So I only have 1 loop on the bottom of my work but the other 3 sides of my work have 2 loops to make the V shape like yours.
Yes, if you only have one loop you should be able to work this in the same way. You could also work through the back bump only when working into the foundation chain, which will give you two loops to work into when you come to joining 😊
I've not worked the super solid square as a rectangle before, but you could try substituting the corners used in that pattern whilst following the shape of the granny rectangle - I'd love to know how it turns out 😊
That first stitch looked like a single crochet, but I'm assuming by your accent you are using UK terms for stitches,am I right? Oh. You just said so in the video.
