Everytime I want to learn a new stitch I come to your channel. Thank you for all your time in making your tutorials! One of the best crochet teacher on RU-vid
Ditto! Your instructions are explicit and slow at the beginning for us newbies! My daughter and I are learning together and say the instructions with you, once learned. 😀
I learned this crochet stitch from a craft shop owner many years ago and have crocheted a number of pot holders with it. But I've never known what the stitch is called. Thank you so much for that! Hope you and your family have a lovely Sunday!
I’m so excited to master this stitch in such a short time. I’m so happy I found your tutorials. Because your verbal and visual instructions are so clear I really think I can do this and advance my skills. Thank you so much. What I like best is how you show exactly what stitch to go into at the beginning and end of each row. THANK YOU…
A this is lovely thank you just making blankets for my two cats this is going to be great for them will look for you again when I have done their blankets and try doing one extra big for myself not been crocheting long , usually knit but love to do this , I am left handed but can follow your instructions fine X
Hi Jean you are very welcome, I do have a left hand version of this and many of my other tutorials, here is the link for this one :- ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-L6Q2JAv5sxU.html :)
❤️I just got your book today and it looks great! I was hoping the thermal stitch would be in your book but I'm glad you teach it here! I love the way you explain crochet!
Hi Bella thank you for telling me about your left handed tutorial that was really kind of you I do struggle with the internet have had this iPad 6 years I’m 76 and still find it great when I find some thing like your tutorials . But can get in a right old muddle if it goes off to get back to what I was watching , I ring my grand children and they try to help me but think its hilarious but this stitch is fab for my cats for winter in there beds . Thanks again x
Excellent tutorial not only for us newbies but for any avid crocheter needing a refresher course! Thank you! I'm not intimidated to try this stitch now!!!
I love this stitch, it's perfect for making hot pads as long as you use 100% cotton yarn. Although I do wish that there were other shapes that it could be made in! Love your videos Bella Coco!!!
I am using Mandala Ombré yarn (#4) in the Happy colour way (rainbow). The yarn calls for a 5.5mm hook but I crochet loose so I am using a 5mm. This is crocheting up super squishy. I am making this as a wrap. I love this stitch. Thank you for posting this video.
I realized that this video is 3 years old, but I have watched a lot of other ones, trying to learn "The Thermal Stitch" and as usual your instructions are always so easy to follow and understand. Thank you Bello🧶🪡✂️! 🤗💓!
Very beautiful work and very nice stitch. I'm going to definitely try it on a small project and I would love to make a sweater out of this stitch. You are a "Great Instructor" and I love how you take the time to explain it also. Great job and keep up the good ideas for your subscribers.
Thank you! I've just read two Thermal Stitch tutorials, but your video has made it so clear. (PS - I'm using US terms, although I'm in Britain, but I can translate!) Thanks so much for your excellent video.
Thank you so much for your incredible tutorial on the thermal stitch! I have just made my first project using this stitch and it is a dishcloth. I do wonder what border you might suggest for this? Thank you and I love your tutorials!! I can always understand each step with your very clear instructions!!
You’re welcome, I’m really happy to hear you like my tutorials 😊 For a dishcloth I would keep it nice and simple; a round of double crochets or half trebles (UK terms) would frame the thermal stitch nicely.
After watching numerous videos on RU-vid to learn this stitch unsuccessfully I came upon yours and walla I finally got it. For that I thank you. My only issue was the end of row couldn’t find the lat stitch so now I put a stitch marker on the end stitch works great you have a new subscriber
@@christineford1858 Hi Christine! The advent calendar was available to those who subscribe to Bella Coco’s Crochet Society (which sends out lovely yarn, patterns and gifts each month) a couple of months ago. I believe the advent calendar was only available on a First Come, First Served basis as there were limited supplies and the offer is now closed. I also remember that it was only available to those in the UK this year, due to postal restrictions, but Sarah-Jayne said that she hoped it would be available worldwide in years to come. I hope that answers your question. I definitely recommend subscribing to the Crochet Society though; I love receiving a surprise parcel each month and have made several of the patterns recently with the gorgeous yarn that was supplied! 😃
If ever I need to learn anything regarding crochet, I turn to Bella Coco. She is the easiest person to understand. Plus her voice is so soothing. So many videos I have turned off because of the person's voice. Thank you Bella Coco for making this left hander a happy crocheting person.
This is a beautiful stitch. Im a newbie crochet and selft taught from your videos thank you so much! I think this will be my next blanket chunky style. Any tutorials for a baby bottle cozy for eg tommy tippee pls 😍☺️❤❤
I have decided that you are going to be my go to channel for stitches that confuse me. Not that they are bad instructors or anything, however, I have watched several tutorials on this stitch but I just saw a mess, not a real stitch. 😂 Most of the time I catch on quickly but every now and then I get lost. You do an excellent job showing the steps clearly. That's exactly what I need. If I can't see something clear, it doesn't make sense. You have cleared up a few stitches for me in the last few days or so. Thank you for taking that extra time to make sure it is clear. Thank you for all your hard work and for sharing your wonderful talents. ✌🏻🐾🥰🧶🇺🇸
this is absolutely wonderful and your way of showing the stitches is very nice. loved it. just want to know if I have to make a large sweater, how much pond of yarn would be used?
Hi I have learnt so much from you, you are amazing. I want to make a blanket for my mum with this stich. my question is would you do it as one piece or in large squares that are then put together at the end?
Thanks for this really useful tutorial Sarah Jayne, it looks so warm. I’m hoping to make my sister a lapghan in this stitch. There’s not much time so I’ll use aran. Will that be too rigid? I thought I’d use a uk hook size 7 but I’ll play about to get a nice soft blanket. 💕x
You're very welcome 😊 For aran weight yarn I would use a 5mm hook, but you can experiment by using a size or two bigger which will give it a bit more drape.
And how should i turn the backpack for every row? Would it be easy? I want to use this stitch because it's double layered so it has no holes in between the stitches and it's also stronger than the normal double crochet
This is a pretty stitch, but for me is a lot of work and I have arthritis hands so after a while my fingers start to hurt 😞 thankyou for sharing this it’s still a nice stitch.👍
Would this use twice as much yarn because you're doubling the thickness? I've recently subscribed to your channel and have been crocheting up a storm! Your tutorials are exceptionally easy to follow, thank you !
You're welcome; I'm really glad you like my tutorials 😊 Overall you will probably need more yarn than if you were working normal double crochet stitches, as the thermal stitch works up shorter so you would need to add more rows.
I'm glad you like it 😊 This is actually quite a slow stitch to crochet as it's very short; for something more speedy you could look at stitches that use treble crochets (UK terms) and taller.
You're welcome! 😊 With a stitch like this, the easiest method is to use a row counter; you can download row counter apps for free on your phone, but a pen and paper to keep a tally also works just as well!
Could I use Bernat Velvet yarn #5 weight with this stitch for a blanket? I really love this pattern, but it's just so slippery I'm wondering if it would hold
You can work this stitch with any yarn, just make sure you’re using the correct hook size 😊 I’d also make a small sample swatch first just to make sure you’re happy with how it works up.
What if I want to include this with another stitch to have some variety with texture? As I transition from out of the thermal stitch, would I treat the last row as a final row?
To finish off the thermal stitch ready to begin another you should do a row of closing thermal stitch; you can find the instructions over on my blog here: bellacococrochet.com/thermal-stitch/ 😊
As this is quite a sturdy stitch I recommend it to be used for things like potholders, baskets and bags. However, there's no reason why you couldn't try it for a beanie if you wanted 😊 You could embroider your inscription over the top of the stitches on the inside.
It's not difficult to change colours and you can create some interesting effects using stripes and colour blocks. I have a tutorial demonstrating how to change colours here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-MaIuAWV2BA4.html 😊
Thank you.. Would you please explain.... How to continue making a bag on a thermal stitch bottom.. Cause I could not determine the stitches to start single crochet for the body of the bag..
As this pattern is worked in rows and not in the round, I would work two separate flat pieces that could then be seamed together. You can make up a small swatch which you can measure and use to determine how many chains to begin with 😊
Does anyone know if this stitch could be used for a picnic blanket? I want a thick picnic blanket/what ever makes it feel comfortable. Or should i use a different stitch?
I'm not sure if I would recommend this stitch for a picnic blanket as it's quite stiff (it would also take a very long time to make!) 😊 Any stitch that doesn't have gaps should be fine; you could try moss stitch, suzette stitch or even ripple stitch.
If you work into the back bump of the starting chain it makes the stitches more secure (if you work into one loop only you’ll find that they may stretch and look uneven). It also makes it a lot easier if you decide to work a border at the end, as the bottom will look like regular stitches and will be much easier to work into 😊
Do you have a pattern for a hooded scarf using this stitch? If not, do you know where I might potentially locate one? I also need a pattern for mittens using this stitch. The easier the better as I'm new to making wearable items.
