Sweetheart, I am 81y/o, have been crocheting (off/on)since I was about 8y/o. But, you have taught me how to do so much faster just by watching you! I'm by no means as fast as you are (and never will be) but I'm very happy with how much I have learned from you! I have also learned to use my eyes to watch you and not have to stare at what my fingers are doing all the time! Again, this is not a race, and I am happy that I can do as well as I am. You are an excellent teacher... better than any I have followed throughout my years! So, thank you so much for sharing your talents...I am a happy old lady!!!❤❤❤

Yes, I can crochet without looking. I’ve been crocheting, for probably 30 years. I don’t know when I started being able to do it without looking, but I think like you said it’s experience, it’s trusting yourself.

I learned how to crochet without looking by bringing my crochet to movie theaters!! It’s literally pitch black and you can’t see anything! I’d practice with chains and DC and SCs for funsies. Of course there will be some mistakes at first but you just gotta practice to make perfect! 💕 I noticed I was moving my wrist a lot so thanks for the thumb tip, Kels!!

The idea twisting the hook instead of my wrist is a life-saver for me. It will help reduce the pains after some long crochet sessions. Thanks!

This video really helps because when i crochet most of the time im watching a movie or show im always staring at my project so i miss most of the movie or show and i have to watch it all over again which is really annoying but after watching this video i can now enjoy my movie or film

For folks who prefer to hold their hook more like a pencil vs a knife, the important takeaway from this video would be the feeling of stitches with the middle finger. I started crocheting while watching anime (I use pencil grip) and Kelsie pointed out a habit I didn’t notice I was doing which is the feeling of stitches by pinching with thumb and middle finger. I’m not to the point of her speed or her ability to read a book while crocheting, but I think I’ll get faster and better over time.

i havent been crocheting that long so i cant consistently crochet without looking , but i found granny stitches easier to do while looking away personally! theres no working in the top of the stitch just the spaces so its super easy to feel where u gotta go

I can also crochet without looking, i didnt realize i was doing it before people pointed it out for me. The first time i actually purposefully crocheted without looking was when I was on a long car drive late in the evening in wintertime. It was pitch black outside but I just really wanted to crochet so I just tried it, and turns out I knew how to do it! xd

I learned how to crochet with my Nana when I was about 7 or 8 and she had just lost her vision from a brain tumor. She got a small bit of vision back and decided to learn crochet from a magazine. I have always known the importance of being able to feel the work more than looking at it. I have known many crocheters who have little to no vision and this is a wonderful skill to develop for those reasons, but it also allows you to continue working while also being present to life around you. Being able to craft while watching movies or TV, and in conversations or while in mtgs or lectures can be soothing and eventually help you concentrate better also.

I've been crocheting for 50+ years - including every time I travel. From a very young age, to avoid getting carsick I had to be able to look up and watch the road. From the age of 55 I started losing some of my eyesight to diabetic retinopathy (injections into my eyes have helped). Thankfully I can still crochet because I've practiced without looking for so long. It's also great for watching tv, holding a real ftf conversation, watching live sport, even shopping (generates lots of comments from other shoppers). Whilst I can already, this was a really good, clear and informative video, thank you and well done. 😊

I've been crocheting about 2 years, only consistently for the last 7 months or so, but I can crochet without looking. I think I started by looking when I put my hook through the stitch and then looking up at the TV when I was yarning over to finish my stitch. It kind of just evolved to me crocheting without looking at all once I was able to feel my way through it.

Hi, thanks for this, you did it really well, we call it the "pinch and feel" technique! I am a blind crocheter, and I use, pretty much the exact same method. I think it worth all crocheters to give it a try because, something I notice, from RU-vid, is that people get repettativestrain injury from too 0:35 man hours spent huddled over their work. I never get this, as I can change my position, don't need to peer down, and can be totally relaxed! I would add only one thing to your excellent tutorial, don't keep checking on your work when practising blind crochet, just keep going, and look yt it at the end of the row. Don't keep undoing it as soon as there is a slip up, just get something done, you can always undo it, but, otherwise, you may never get past the first hurdle!! I do all sorts of patterns/stitches and it is all perfectly doable without looking, so for the sake of your posture and health, give it a try!! Here is a link to a short video I made, showing how I can shop in a supermarket, independently, with my beautiful Guide Dog, Zyon the Bold! Enjoy and share if you like it, as I love to get the word out there!!! Sandy and Zyon. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-YhywnVNFpN4.htmlsi=uNC41dlFAbf2TF0K

I think you are an amazing teacher 😀. You are so specific, and you got me to think about how I do it, and it is very similar to your way, - but I need to practice not looking, and I guess since I normally use a 3 mm hook and thin yarn, it is more difficult, but I shall definitely try and practice when I make something with a bigger hook. I can knit without looking, but crocheting, - I don't believe in myself. I can do it for a couple of stitches, but I don't have stamina yet, because of mistrusting myself, but... Thanks for your great tips 🙂

great explanation! I am able to knit without looking (I have more experience knitting than crocheting), and when i grabbed crochet I thought it was not possible to crochet without looking, until I saw you doing it. Now I'm slowly training myself, i take my eyes off of the project for a couple of stitches at a time. It's getting easier, i'm also getting faster, it just takes lots of practice and patience. I'm a pencil grip girl (or more like a chopstick), I do exactly as you with my left hand, and on the right hand i use my middle finger to hold the hook loop.

I can crochet without looking. As you said it just takes practice. I didn’t really realize I did it until someone asked me how I did it and then I realized that she was right I don’t look at my work all the time. And depending of the pattern (or if the yarn is one that likes to separate 😏) depends on how often I need to look. I enjoy seeing how popular crochet and knitting is becoming. I get jealous though of your yarn stores. Where I live in the interior of BC Canada, I have to drive 1/2 an hour to get to the only store that sells yarn (Walmart and it only has 1 aisle and it doesn’t have much selection at all. And purchasing online is difficult because we don’t have door delivery everything has to be sent to our PO Box which many online stores refuse to do. So I love the yarn store videos where I can dream of having such a lovely selection. Good luck to you and your business.

I think it's so interesting that even prior to watching your videos I did almost all of this the same as you. The main difference is that I don't put a finger on my yarn that's in the hook. I have been crocheting on and off for probably 7 or 8 years now. Just making projects whenever I get a break or get the itch to make something. I can crochet without looking for simple patterns and it has to be the middle stitches not the edges. What I noticed is that yes, I use my middle finger to feel out my stitches. I turn my hook, but with my wrist. I need to implement keeping my pointer finger with the yarn on the hook cause it is just waving in the air and then pinching to move the yarn. Very good tips for me and I can’t wait to start on my next project!

I have been crocheting since I was 7 years old. I'm 59. I can crochet without looking once I started the project. Granny squares are the best for crocheting by touch. I even crochet at the movie theater. LOL. Great video. ❤

Avid crocheter 40+ yrs. I can crochet without looking if is a same stitch row. If it is a more tedious pattern that requires counting, I definitely look at my work. Frogging isn't fun! Great video! Ty.

I agree with the technique and the fact that it takes confidence in your crochet ability and familiarity with your pattern. If you are very familiar with the pattern and it’s not a complicated pattern, but just one stitch after another. It’s a super cool ability!

I’ve been crocheting for only a few months, so there are only a few stitches that I trust myself to do without looking. Granny stitches are definitely one since I have made a few cardigans and those take multiple movies 😂❤

What helps me to crochet without looking is turning off the lights/dimming them or crocheting in the car at night. I rely on my sight A LOT and I want to be able to feel the sts as well so I crochet in the dark sometimes 😂

You explained this so well! What's kinda crazy is I've been crocheting about a year now but I've managed to get the speed and not looking part down a lil! Mostly cause I started by knitting so I usually felt at the back of my stitches anyway, plus I wanted to watch anime in subs lol. I have to glance down more often and can only do it with simple repeatable stitches, but I think eventually I'll get the full hang of it!

I can and can't (yet) crochet without looking. The only part I haven't got the hang of it nor have practice it is the putting the crochet hook into the stitch. But if the stitch is big like granny square's and other holes then I'm completely able to do it without looking. I am going to try your way out tomorrow (no yarn to swatch in reach😅😅) and I'm interested to feel how i hold my hook and project 😊 Thank you for the great video ❤❤❤ Love all your videos and makes and everything 😊❤

Lived the video, and all great tips. Practic and creating the muscle memory is key. I can crochet and knit without looking, especially once past the foundation row of a project. I'm sure your video will inspire and help many!

I don't have to look too often, but it really depends on whether or not it's a complicated stitch pattern. But basically I did exactly how you suggested just trying over and over until I got good at it. 😊 I do think I'll try your hand position and tweak mine a bit! Great tips thanks for awesome content 🎉❤

I don't keep my finger on the yarn on the right hand and I don't run my finger across the fabric on the left hand but otherwise I'm doing the same motions. It's interesting to see it broken down. It's also fun to listen to friends and fam talking about me doing black magic because I'm not looking at my work as I'm working on it 😆 💜

You are amazing! I have been crocheting exactly like you already but I cannot take my eyes off my work and I have to keep stopping and count stitches. I realize you have been doing it for years so I am going to try but I am not sure you can teach this old dog new tricks 😂 but thank you for showing us how it’s done!!

I think you could easily make the transition to Tunisian crochet - the way you hold the hook and the bumps is the same as how you hold your hook to crochet. I'm a pencil grip crocheter, so TC has been an adjustment!
