I've gone 17 years without doing crooks consistently (in that 17 years I've landed 2). Watch this and got them back within an hour. Relearning ticks at 35 is a great feeling. Thanks.
5 years off, 1st month back in @ 22 years old. got off drugs and i’m working on my body a lot, skating coming back kinda slow, shout-out all the return skaters 😎
Your suggestion to focus your mind and visualise that little bit of truck closest to the ledge really helps me with this. I’m learning these on crusty concrete ledges at my local, so this is hard work. I have been struggling with truck positioning and pinching with my little wheels an 8” deck and size 12 feet. Shifting weight to heels from toes for the nollie out is such a little dance. Your appreciation of the truck positioning and the sheer radness of this trick and the pinch at 02:04 is outstanding. I’m 45 and tis my first time attempting crooks a few days ago. I have been trying to just ollie into that pinch stall on a ledge and getting the feel for the pinch in a stall and that pivot point has been a revalation. Contemplating pivoting that little nollie leverage line at 05:00 is not something I had ever done but well worth sitting there and rocking on that line and trying to nollie out for a session. Tonight it was amazing, I put a crook in a line with a boardslide and a fucking huge frontside pop shuv off a ramp. I’m serious I got so much dopamine from this trick I was flying about 2m in the air with the FS shuv. Jumped into the local bowl for a carve and ollied out into a crook stall. WTF. Getting consistency and sliding in the bowl, crook to fakie, and crook nollie out back into the bowl next…
My main problem with this is the front foot ends up too far on the end of the board so I fly forwards. It's like my front foot needs to do the equivalent of a 1 inch punch. Don't know how you Ollie up onto it without scaping the front foot forwards.
I was stuck on this trick for about three months. Until one day, something just clicked and I landed it. It was probably one of the happiest moments of my life. I love crooked grinds. They are so hard to learn, but they are totally worth the time.
I haven’t learned then yet, but like a month ago I tried one for the first time and my trucks locked in perfectly. I didn’t expect it so I didn’t land it, but I was so hype and now I can’t even get close to what I did...
@@noahthefilmer9100 it did end up working but what really helped was to angle my front foot before popping into the ledge and coming out of the crooked grind into Fakie helped a ton on figuring out how to grind the trick properly. Good luck on your progression 👍🏼
Medium sized ledge is perfect imo, too small is annoying and kinda scary sometimes just cuz it doesn’t feel as stable but it’s hard to stand over it and grind on a big ledge
Back when I was a teenager, I learned these going fakie out and then just learned to shove it out since my board was doing the same motion. Felt really rad haha. Never could get the hang of the nollie out with them. Also half cabbing into them feels really good as well. Currently 34 and finally came back to skating after 17 or 18 years away and trying to build up the courage to try these again.
I’m about to be a Krookie Monster for the next month or two. The time has finally come to learn these! Accidentally locked into one after under-rotating a nose slide and I was like, “oh, that’s what it feels like! Game on, I’m learning K-grinds now!”
I can't believe this video has less views than the tutorial from braille. Not a single thing was said about the heel pinch concept which is basically how you get them real proper
I've watched countless how to crook videos and something about yours finally clicked and after 2years of trying I landed quite a few today. So thank you
When i learned them I struggled so hard with that board flip popping out. The tension release of the bushings flipped my board under my non-consenting front foot. It killed me because I thought I have them already. But as you say the more you really nollie out the lesser the board pops away flipping. Another thing that helped me was to actually align my shoulders more parallel to the ledge while grinding and popping out. It got me consistent pop out security. Before that I used to just "stand" on this grind with my upper body too much turned "in", like leaving the parallel course. I was lacking motion and could not revert to a parallel pop out. Going parallell or reverting to parallel while popping out was one key for getting out of this trick for me. And to really nollie kind of and push with your back foot when popping out.
The biggest tip for me was having my shoulders parallel too the object I'm gonna grind it helped me stick and grind. It was super weird because I was so used to my shoulders facing forward not sideways 🙃. I thought I was gonna fall backwards 😅. But keeping your shoulders parallel helps to keep the momentum straight after you pinch that inside wheel. Now working on popping out better instead of going fakie. Good luck. Be safe. Consistency is key
Thanx for this channel my friend. I recently picked up my board again because the boardingblood kept boiling in my vaines. The crooked grind was one of the grinds on my bucketlist and thanks of your explainination I finaly was able to land them four times this eve. Scrolling through your channel and watching your other clips I reconize a lot concerning being a working father of 38 without time to skate. Although I quit skating years ago I'd always kept looking for curbs, rails and spots. This reminds me of some words Reda once said during an interview, that once you got hooked on skating you always be a an skateboarder no matter what. Keep on rolling bro and keep up your good word👍💪 Greetz from Holland
Awesome explanation! I never thought about crooked grinds as getting just on that little corner of the truck. I have done them off and on for a good while now but never consistently and my pop out needs a lot of work, I'll try to make it to the park today and try these out.
Wow the focusing your energy on the heels at the end when you pop out / even during the grind is gonna be crucial for my sesh tonight. I’m gonna learn these & have them dialed in. I wanna take the slappy route but I learned these on a big ledge when I was like 17-18 so I just gotta relearn them the way I did with the techniques you explained. Plus that stationary pop out practice / exercise to get used to the feeling of popping out should really help me. That’s my biggest issue with crooked grinds, I can slide them all day & pop high enough on a lot of ledges / rails to get into them but my landing always goes to primo & I think putting my pressure on the heel like you said will really help. I’m so excited lol. Thank you big bro. 🛹😎
What's funny is I always loved chomping rails/ledges. Feebles, 50s, 5-0s, smith, fs/bs lip, kf bs tail etc etc. The one trick I never could seem to get was bs crooked grind. Its such a cool trick and looks really fun but I could never seem to get them. I guess makes sense cause I never had learned nose slides, and my nose grinds were always pretty trash. Time to learn them now. I always thought kf bs krook looked really nice.
Haha, I got to work on that sweet radness! I've done a few but I had plenty of those overshooting incidents plus slipping back falls. I'm going to try again focusing on that part of the truck. Another great tutorial! 👍
Bruh how was I ever landing these? I was crooking on the wrong wheel for a decade. I'd pinch on the toe side wheel when you're supposed to pinch heel side for bs crooks. I swear sometimes you completely miss how wrong you're doing something until you hear a proper explanation.
Perfect tutorial ,just for the pop out if you are struggling focus more on your back foot sort of “kick” motion rather than your front foot “pop” it will look about the same but much easier 👍🏽 hope that helps.
I’ve been skating for over 12 years and lost this trick. You have some of the best tutorials I’ve seen so far. Today I crooked a 12 ft ledge and stomped it thanks to this video. Cheers!
I just don’t grind I do get into crooked grind position but then my body goes forward and it doesn’t matter how fast I go or how much wax I put on. Please help!
This time I want to push through learning them. They have been an annoying phase trick that I come close to or land a few boinked ones but never have ln lock. I think the reason is that I don't get into the pinch correctly because I'm a toe side dude
When I was young I could crooked grind great but couldn't land in a nose slide for the life of me. I can slappy nose slide now but am afraid to Ollie into a nose slide or crooked grind
Hey Ben I've got a question: I always skated 52mm wheels and I liked them, this week Im getting new wheels(ricta clouds 78a) but they will be 54mm. Will it make a big difference from going from 52 to 54 mm? And will it negatively or positively influence my tricks? I'm really afraid that I'm gonna get wheelbite and flatspots on them and that its gonna negatively influence my skating. Hope you can help! Love your videos btw :)
The issues I have with this trick are 1. I find it extremely difficult to slide. I pinch it but doesn’t slide at all. 2. I find every obstacle tall asf when it comes to crooked grind
My problem is that I don’t get that krooked pinch. I do it too straight on the ledge like a backside nosegrind. And When I do that, I get stuck. How Can I fix this?
I can't get "das Pinch", "sweet radness" or login properly....with my 55mm Indys and 52mm wheels.....its barely possible to get a wheelbite...in my opinion this is necessary to lock in perfect? My trucks are very loose.....anyone with the same problem? My english is not the best. :D Great channel, greetings from Germany
I was doing crooked grinds this morning, and then that exact slam you mentioned at the beginning happened to me. I am now sitting on the couch watching youtube and icing my hip.
