Thanks Ryan for continuing to take the time to make these really helpful videos - this one in particular (besides breaking down the slice serve nicely - face sends it, swing bends it as you have taught in earlier videos) teaches the positive attitude and work ethic required to make improvements. That stat from Federer’s serve history is a good reminder. Inspiring stuff.
You keep saying toss to the right, but all your tosses seem to be throwing the ball in an arc to the left, over your head. You hold your arm out and then toss it back towards where you're standing.
Great! Thanks a lot for your tips. Applied them on the yesterday's game and they really improved my slice serve. Specifically, opening the body during the hitting action that was my problem. Fixed, and now slice serve yields me excellent outward curved trajectory after bouncing the ball which put my opponent in trouble quite a lot.
Hi Ryan, I hope you can clear this up for me. I noticed that on your follow through the racket crossed your body with the palm up. Are you pronating when delivering a slice serve? And if you do wouldn’t the palm be down on the follow through? I’ve seen some videos where they say to end the slice serve with a sort of “scoop” on the follow through. But I find I can’t make this “scooping” (palm up) motion when pronating. Maybe I’m just not getting the correct motion down. Hope you understand my question :-)
You're a really good instructor. And I'm qualified to say so, because I'm an instructor also. I watch your videos to learn techniques from you, and your instruction is very effective.
I just tried it today (even though I didn't believe it will work), but it was freaky. Swing to the right, and the ball slices nicely to the left. Thank you so much Ryan. Now I have to go see all your videos ,
Hey, I was watching this while warming up for my match. The part that helped me out the most was when you mentioned to not open the left shoulder and leave it closed for a more accurate serve. Any good advice to hook it more left with easy power and spin? (Serving from Deuce court Righty) Looking for some advice please!
no. there's just a much pronation on a slice serve. it's just a bit later so the racket is still on edge more at contact. slice serves also require that you swing more to the side and not toward your target.
The major problem with your serve motion is you didn't send out your right shoulder, and relatedly ou didn't turn your torso enough! Try those and see improvement.
Great video Ryan and good to see the key points that i can take back to the court to practice . You are spot on about the dont expect perfection. I like to play myself when practising . First to 20 points. 2 for a first serve . 0 for a second. -2 for a double . How many balls to i take to hit 20 .
Nice video once again. I noticed that you didn't pronate on any slice serves. I thought that you did in an old video from 4-6 months ago. So, I take it, I shouldn't pronate on a slice serve???
Where is the contact point on the ball when doing a slice serve from the ad side? Basically behind the ball for a serve down the T? Can you do a slice serve going out wide on the ad side?
Awesome video….again. You have helped me improve my serve from a prior video you did. So now I can’t wait to apply the tips from this video. Thanks again Ryan. Blessings going out your way from ATLANTA, Ga.
Pro players miss on their serve not because they are not capable to put 99% balls in but because they take extra risk on the first serves trying to aim for lines.
@@2MinuteTennis Thank you for your video. I wanted to ask do you see the difference between serving from the deuce and add sides? For me, I have very stable slice/top serve from the the deuce side. However I am struggling to reproduce the similar technique on the add side. Somehow the angle of body to the court seems to be different. Can you give some advice?
love it. this is how I hit mine...one thing I learned is don't hit it too hard let the sidespin to complete its effect. A moving serve is more disruptive then a flat powerful one
Excellent video, I see my mistake, I would open my body to the box Bc I follow the serve to the net. I would appreciate videos on approach and first volley when serving
I have made enough progress on my flat serve, which leads me to Ryan's flat serve video. These non-edited videos are so helpful as it's what amateurs will all go thru. Thanks Ryan!
Thank you sir Ryan for sharing your knowledge and skills to us, Even though the Philippines has only few players join the international competition but we follow you and your teachings on tennis serves and strategies. The video you shared helps me a lot in teaching amateur players. Keep up the good sports sir, May you continue sharing your video for us to follow in playing tennis. From the Philippines.
great video, as you said you don't want to be a professional player but you are an amazing professional instructor which is lucky us - thanks Ryan for another lesson
Thanks Ryan. It reminds me the Mc Enroe services ( left, but the same idea). He knew better than anyone to push the opponent out the court and go up to the net to finish the point. Remember ?
thank you very much for your lesson is very very logical and easy to understand the like to read your messages it's helpost to approve tennise you keep going don't give a solution
You will hit the ball at around 2 o'clock. Keep your body facing right. Don't turn your body early or else the serve will end up missing and going too far to the left. Keep your tossing hand up as long as possible. Use a serving stance that is less perpendicular to the net so you can get a sharper angle. In the deuce court you can hit a heavy slice serve that hits the center of the sideline and takes the receiver so far off the court that it is almost impossible to return. If the returner tries to return that serve by standing close to the baseline and slightly in the alley, then you can rip some serves down the tee.
I am impressed by your serve through the middle from the ad side. Would you mind explaining:where do you aim for if you are hitting from the ad side? Like where in the court should I focus my eyes on? Or should I focus on the net of?
I've been struggling with the slice serve, whereas I have a natural kick serve. I always thought to rotate my shoulders for getting a nice slice serve. Thank you for this tip, I'll try it next time.
Yes, there's pronation but after contact. There's pronation on all serves. I think of attacking the ball on edge from 8 to 2 o'clock along the back of the ball. 8 to 2 gives you a bit of top slice to pull the ball down into the court as well as to the right.
