But when you have made your marking with the fork on, why not just substract 5mm from that line?. I think it overcomplicates things having to firstly meassure from your marking to the end of the stem, and then substract that distance +5mm. Is this to make the meassurement more accurate or am i missing something?

really good video, clear and well reasoned. i have left a spacer on top of my stem and now you have explained why this is probably better!

Well explained, have watch a lot of your videos. And well explained even on a mathematical level on why. So in other words your cut will be level with the stem right. With this cut will their be like a 1mm lip for the 5mm spacer, oppose to move around on reinstallation

You put a 5mm spacer on top of the stem, marked that height and then took 3mm +2mm (for the bunge) off that mark. Why not just mark at the top of the stem?

This video is for all configurations - not all expander bungs are the same, so his method shows how to do it regardless of the components.

@@KoenStrobbe-fv5usagree but the way it was done made no sense at all. He already had an easy way to measure the 5mm cut (with the spacer) but them measured it without it.

Hello, For the expander on a carbon fork there's an "allround" torque? I know it depend of manufacturer but i think there's a general torque will be OK not to much and not to less. For example 5Nm is ok or it can be too much?

Is it really necessary to cut an additional 3mm off the tube? Surely if I remove 20mm worth of spacers I only need to cut 20mm off the tube. The 3mm will have been already accounted for?

Yes - although that requires it to have been properly in the first place. You could always measure the 20mm and compare to the method shown to be doubly sure. Also - This measuring technique would be necessary if you are changing a stem, to one that has a different stack height.

The 5mm spacer on top isn’t a safety net. It prevents your expander plug from properly supporting the stem. Stop doing it.
