That's a fabulous idea! Because it's a bit more difficult to get the back straight, especially if you have shorter hair that you can't quite bring to the front to see what you are cutting! 🤔 X
Thank you for recognizing that not everyone has the means to go to a solon or that some people won't ever want to go to a professional. This type of information is gold to us poor introverts over here 🙌
@@ISSSA-j4bHaving a best friend won't "fix" mental health and neither does religion/faith so please stop. This kind of thinking is highly dangerous since it causes people to feel shame when their mental health is still poor despite being religious or having faith. They will often avoid getting help from professionals out of fear of being judged or because they think that if they just focus more on their faith, things will get better. They often feel shame because they assume they must not be doing the right things so god is punishing them. It doesn't matter how much they go too church or pray, things are not going to get better because mental health disorders have nothing to do with faith. They are very real problems with in the brain that many people, including myself, suffer with. It most often requires treatment with medication, sometimes multiple medications and therapies. People lose their battle with mental heath every single day because they're to afraid that people like you will judge them if they admit that they are suffering. They already have to struggle with the stigma that surrounds mental health so shoving religion/faith down their throat and acting like its the fix all will only make them feel worse/more isolated. The only people that make comments like yours are people that have never struggled with mental health problems. You all are the last people that should be giving us advice.
I just did this on my hair. When I first cut the first couple of layers, I was like "oh no, what have I done?". Just trust the process. The layers come together the more you cut and the end result is fabulous. Thank you Brad! ❤
@@ginabotello8985I just did this on my hair and it did not create that v shape on the ends it’s straight line and then the face framing shorter layers in the front
your comment was what made me resection my hair and try again after thinking it was too complicated for me and wow, thank you so much! I went on with the cut and I absolutely love my hair now. plus I endorse what everyone here said: trust the process! first cut is the scariest but it gets more and more discreet and the result is gorgeous 🥹
Hey brad, I’d like to see you give a tutorial like this but while you’re wearing a wig and cutting it from your head. These mannequin tutorials are helpful but I think some extra advice from the perspective of hair on your head would be that much more helpful 😅 or maybe just a “following my own tutorials” challenge 😝
Exactly! These are great tutorials and very helpful, but translating it to actually doing it yourself and seeing what you're doing is very different and not quite as easy!
@@Mari.K12 so then the solution for that would be to go ahead and section it out prior to putting it on his head. I very much agree with the others. His tutorials are excellent, but because I’m not a stylist- things don’t always translate from him doing it to the mannequin to me doing it on my own head. It’s so much easier to mimic hand position when its demonstrated as you’d be doing it. Also, when Brad is cutting on a mannequin, he doesn’t have the same mindset as if he were doing it to a wig that’s on his own head. The “issue” with that, if you will, is that he’s unable to share those “in the moment” type of helpful tips/tricks that pop up as he’s cutting, because he’s just not experiencing it in the same way. If he were wearing the wig, he’d be far more likely to encounter the things that he’s apt to recognize as potentially difficult for the untrained person who’s at home attempting this cut on themselves.
Funny. Im a hair stylist and I’ve had to fix plenty of mess ups due to his terrible advice. At least he keeps hair stylists busy because we always have to clean up his mess.
@@teej2744 exactly, this is not helping! I really wish he would go back to telling people to not do hair at home. These are detrimental to good hair and then people have to have it fixed and it usually means taking off a whole bunch more hair than if they just came to me in the first place.
@@teej2744 It's not his advice that's bad. It's people's way of taking that advice and that way is mostly the ,,Imma do it but in my way". That's why it ends up terribly.
Grabbing hair clips, scissors and my spray bottle hubby says " what did Brad teach you now?" Love it how he recognizes your voice by the hello beautiful. Be safe and have a wonderful weekend love you 💙
I used this tutorial of yours to cut my daughter’s hair about 3 hours ago, wanna say a huge thank you, I NAILED IT😅 She is so happy with the cut and blow out and she said she feels like a bit of her has come back, so thank you again for helping make my baby girl feel better! I also added a wispy fringe to mix it up! So CUTE! Love you Mondo! ❤ Full head of Highlights next week! 😊 much love from across the pond 🏴
I know this was 6 mo but I hope your daughter is still feeling confident I had a real hard time growing up feeling different and I wasn’t always good at showing it but every time she told me I was beautiful and that she loved me it kept me afloat I love you mama

Brad, I am 73 and have been doing colorful colors on my white hair for some time now. As a matter a fact, in my senior year of high school my hair was green. My senior year book is in black and white (I am 73, remember) but the photographer laughed when he saw my hair and stated I was definitely one of a kind. Now, in my senior years by age, I still color my hair ( been white for over 30 years) and since I do not bleach my hair, it is not damaged. Medicine has made it somewhat curly, and as of 3 weeks ago, it is pink and hot green! I would love to try your color but money-wise, I could not afford it so I am going with my old faithful of Adore semi color and mix with white conditioner which tames it some. I prefer the cotton candy pink with the hot green. I love your videos and learn something each time. Keep it up! Love you bunches!!
I love this! I’m 55 with lots of gray. I’ve been dying Purple for about 5 yrs. I use Ion permanent color. Just because we age doesn’t mean we aren’t fun anymore! 😉😂🥰
I started going gray at 16. At 37, it's about 60% gray. Information seems hard to come by with that. My hair is med brown, and I don't want to go blonde or dye it brown to hide the gray. I'm not ashamed of it - I actually think it's pretty. Sometimes it actually looks like Christmas tree tinsel (which I think is darn cool). I do think I need to switch up my shampoo/conditioner again and start using purple shampoo once a month or so to keep it bright. Do the colors all of you use come off on your pillow? If lighter colors actually stick.. that would be cool to do! It'd be naturally foiled.
I did this this a few months ago but this tutorial is much easier to follow, this cut makes my curly hair look soo much better because the curls aren’t all bulked up at the bottom anymore while the top is flat from being weighed down, I’m actually able to style my natural curls nicely and don’t feel the need to straighten it every single day 😊
Y’all I was literally shaking while doing this because I got so scared half way through but it turned out AMAZING. Best haircut I’ve ever had, including going to professionals. I’ve been trying to get more volume in the crown area and no product would do the job. I was so frustrated. This haircut literally gave me 10x more volume just drying it straight with no product (other than heat protectant). I am so happy with this and this tutorial was amazing!! Definitely DONT RUSH and just go very slowly if you are a beginner! Thank you Brad Mondo, this is the first tutorial of yours I have used and I am so impressed! Even my husband was like wow, your hair looks beautiful!
How hard was it to do? Because I struggle with parting and seeing the back all on my own, as well as not being too sure about the shortest layer length
Same!! I was just telling myself I HAVE to cut my hair tonight, something that my thick wavy hair will look good in no matter what I do with it. He always reads my mind lol
This is such a beautiful haircut for curly girls, thank you Brad. My hair has gotten so much curlier because the weight is off it and I’ve got like a nice shape. The back of my head has so much volume now compared to how flat it always used to be which was my biggest problem❤️
At 12 yrs old my mom took me to get my long hair feathered. I knew I'd never get to go back so I watched how the beautician did it and I would sneak and keep my hair cut. I've been cutting my hair (and friends & family) ever since. 😊 I've always loved cutting hair BUT did not go to beauty school cuz I didn't wanna do perms. That was REALLY popular back then.
I just did this exact cut on myself today. It came out perfect! My hair is still long, but I now have beautiful layers that added shape and volume. Thank you!!
I did this cut yesterday, and it worked out pretty well for me, too! I think I cut one layer on my right side a little too thick by mistake, but otherwise, it looks great. It looks sooo much better than what I had. And besides, I don't think anyone other than myself would notice anyway and maybe a hair stylist if I tell them to look for it. I'm so happy I didnt have to spend money to get a haircut because I need to save money in order to move in a few weeks
@@Meliaisonhow difficult was it to do yourself? Because I have a lot of trouble seeing the back and knowing what length to do, I also struggle with the parting and getting it all even 😂
You know what, I've actually preferred the way my hair looks every time I do it myself compared to when I've gone to a professional. Even more so now I follow your tutorials
Perfect timing. I was getting ready to cut my long, 2b/2c fine, thin hair to my shoulders because my curl was looking rubbish. Decided to do this instead, give it a go if I was going to chop a heap off anyway. I kept the shortest layer about where the tip of my nose is. It looks so good! My curl is much better, my fine and thin hair looks fuller when up in a ponytail and it looks more voluminous when left out. Had so many compliments the next day!
I've been waiting for this video forever from you!!! My favorite haircut is layers because I have thinning hair (and I don't know what other way to get my hair cut to make my hair look fuller) but when I don't have money to get my hair cut I can do this and it seems easy enough to do at home!! Next time I cut my hair at home (which is soon my hair is getting longer) I will definitely be able to make sure that it looks great!! Thank you Brad!!! 💗💗💗💗💗
Apparently massaging with rosemary oil+ a carrier oil like jojoba is good for hair loss and thinning! Definitely do some research on it if you’re interested but I’ve heard that it has been tested and works better than some over the counter hair loss treatments
@@HG-mi2qd I will definitely do that! Thank you!! At this point I'm willing to try anything, when I was younger I had thick long hair but as I got older it was thinning more. I don't know if my Fibromyalgia has anything to do with it but I just make sure to not wear it up too tight, I sleep with a light wrap at night to try not to lose anymore but it seems impossible!
@@yvettemartinez42 hi, just wanted to say i reccomend micro needling the scalp or brushing along with the scalp oiling to stimulate blood flow. It helped me recover the sides of my hair !! I have anxiety it was falling out really bad from stress :( but it's coming back slowly but surely u just need to make sure you stick with a routine :-) look up a tutorial and see if ur interested ☺️
This is how I was taught to cut hair 39 years ago and it is the best way for beautiful layers in long natural hair. I'm a red head and use this cutting techniqueon myself. My hair is massive and It falls in my mid back. Glad to see the old ways of cutting still being used as my local hair shops are in another league. There are some fantastic hairdressers out there they just don't live near me 😂 Thank you ❤
I told my husband Brad would be my best friend if we ever met!!! Hubby said I say hi back to him every time he says "hi beautiful " at the beginning of his videos... then I caught myself doing it 🤦♀️🤷♀️😂
Well.. I just finished following this and I must say you REAALLLYYY gotta trust the process lol my hair turned out amazing though. If you have long hair I’d recommend making your guide piece at least to your chin instead of cheekbone. Which is what I did and it was perfect.
Brad you are a life saver!!!!!! Thank you so much. I combined a few different tutorial of yours and i AM IN LOVE with my haircut! Salons terrify me, especially as someone on the spectrum that hates the sensory feeling and needs tons of breaks. Cutting at home came out so much better than i expected and i felt safe and comfortable. Now my family is even asking if i could do their hair!!!! Thank you so much!!!
I followed Brads wolfcut tutorial two month ago and loved the result as well, not as many layers as i wanted so i decided to layer it and it literally turned out as a wolf cut, maybe my first section on the top of my head was too short...but it doesn't matter i love the outcome
Thank you so much for this video Brad! I have severe anxiety and can’t go to the hairdressers and was getting insecure and depressed about my hair. I got a hairdresser to come to my house 2 weeks ago but I only asked her to thin my hair out because I wasn’t coping well with someone new in my house and wanted her to thin it quickly and leave it at that, I was too anxious to get it styled. So I finished my haircut off today with this tutorial and it looks great! I will go to the hairdressers again one day and I will overcome my anxiety, these tutorials are just really helpful for people in my current situation so thank you.
Even though I don’t color or cut my own hair, learning from Brad’s videos has helped me communicate with my stylist better about the looks I want! I’m also lucky my gal is an absolute rockstar about being creative!🧡❤️💜
This cut is coming at literally the perfect time. Just went to the salon today to do something fun with my hair for the first time since November! But of course I didn’t ask for much cut because.. anxiety. 😅 so I want to do a simple lil chopperoonie at home. But I don’t wanna fuck it up. Thank you so much for the video! Now I feel a little bit better about cutting it at home
I’m pregnant and losing my mind apparently and decided I wanna cut my hair. I got my tools and followed this guide step by step and I’m frickin proud of myself!!!!! My hair looks amazing and I’m so stoked. THANK YOU BRAD ❤️
Shared this with my daughter. She always loves having layers and Covid has put a stop to that for a while, so she got used to doing it herself. This will help her all the more. Thank you Brad. You're a rock star!
1st time I cut my own hair! You are amazing Brad! I did do the curtain bang video first. I loved them, then I wanted the full cut and ran into this video.. Thank you for your videos! I love my layers! It looks so beautiful thanks to you. I am totally obsessed 😍 I wish I could of done a video for you. Thank you again 💓
Thank YOU Brad Mondo, always coming through with these tutorials. You’ve helped me with bleaching my hair, cutting my brothers hair, curtain bangs, wolf cuts and now layers and I’ve never fucked it up all cuz of you☺️ I’m forever thankful for all this simplified knowledge you share with us. Love you!!♥️
These videos are a godsend. I have been cutting my own hair for ten years. It's either adjusting my cut myself or paying someone else and coming home and fixing her mistakes.
I just wanna say for the home hairstylist, when he twisted the hair up he is using texture shears. Do not go in with regular scissors. Im a hairstylist and if your not you may not have noticed that.
Thank you so much! 😮 I did NOT notice that! It's also easy to miss the written message about it as its not up there very long, ntm how most ppl are intensely looking at the cutting going on and not much else.
Oh Brad! Yesterday I followed your tutorial on cutting layers and OMG!!! THANK YOU!! I had very damaged hair as I dye my hair every two to 3 weeks. Now my hair is so soft and full ( I have thin hair as well). Thank you for teaching me how to layer my hair. Super simple and a beautiful result.
I've always been lazy and sloppy when giving myself haircuts because i don't really care that much, but I also only do really simple stuff cuz I don't wanna risk that much either, but I just followed this tutorial and this has to be the best looking results I've gotten when messing with my own hair and it was so easy. This is gonna be my new go to for myself, thanks for the tutorial :)
I just watched this and immediately rushed to get everything- my mom helped cut it and section it off while I gave her instructions and let me tell you… I LOVE ITTTT!!! ❤️😩
Thank you so much, Brad! This turned out amazing, and I can't thank you enough for doing this video. I kept pausing, rewinding, and watching it again while I was doing it. I am so happy to be able to do this myself now!!
Brad omg it's 2 am and i just finished doing this haircut. I didn't film it but my hair looks sooo good 🥹 I didn't realize how heavy my hair was until i went in with the thinning shears at the end. Made a huuuge difference.
This is life saving Edit: omg i DID IT!! My hair looks soo good even tho i cut it myself. Took a couple of hours cuz i was "too careful" but it was worth it. Now i can't stop looking in the mirror lol.
Had a dream last night with my hair in layers and I loved the way it looked woke up obsessed in making happen, since I can’t afford to go to a salon right now I’m watching videos last time I did my butterfly cut thanks to Brad guidance came out beautifully so I’m following step by step again!!! I’m excited to see the results
I just did this on my curly hair and it came out so beautiful! I was doing the wolf cut for so long but I realized it wasn't giving me any layers only cutting the front of my hair. I tried this and it's not perfect but looks so much better than before! I will continue to use this video
First tried out the butterfly cut, since it seemed foolproof to me.. and it looked really nice! 25 days later and I just had to do this one! My hair gained so much volume and I feel like a freaking hair dresser now!! Thank you so much :) Edit: Did it again about 1 year later… this time I also tried the part with the thinning scissors and it gave me the creeps!! I instantly felt like “oh no, not again” since I totally messed up my bangs last year. Such a relief that it just sounded worse than it actually was. So much hair came out at the front but the end result is just so much better 😄
I wanted to cut my layered curly hair… it’s been years since I got a cut so I went to buy some hair cutting scissors and followed this tutorial, because of course brad mondo!!! It took me about an hour to do but I’m so happy with my results. My dead ends are gone, it’s just shorter than I thought because of my curly hair but it’s beautiful. Thank you ♥️
Thanks for this Brad! I am one of those ladies who cuts my own hair. Thankfully I've always had some knowledge since I did attend cosmetology long enough to do a good cut. That was just about 20 years ago! It's always good to get some extra tips on DIY because cutting your hair yourself is a whole different beast!
I just convinced my husband to help me do this. It was terrifying for a minute, because my hair is curly only on the back of my head, but once I styled it I looked a lot my Miss Mani. Thanks Brad 😍 now I need styling videos.
So i needed some extra movement in my hair but didn’t want to go to salon, sometimes they take too much off. Today i tried this technique. I been cutting my bangs n length forever. But always had to go to the salon for the layers. My hair came out really good!!!!! Not gonna say it wasn’t nerve-racking and took some time and doubt and frustration, but I am so happy with the results. Thank you, Brad.
I part my hair off center slightly. I wish there was some sort of mention about how to modify the sections/cut/style for those of us who don't do a center part. Thank you for this/all your tutorials!!!
i really wanted layers but have no money so i asked my friend to cut it for me and we were legit following this video step by step, I LOVE HOW IT TURNED OUT THANK YOU SO MUCH!!
Thank you Brad Mondo!! The best tutorial ever and thanks to you, I was able to give myself beautiful layers, I was super scared cutting my own hair and can't say I didn't get anxiety, but the end result was awesome!! Thank you!!
I've just tried it for the first time and the result is AMAZING! I couldn't get these layers from my hairdresser no matter how I explained it to her. Many many thanks, you made me really happy ❤
I followed this tutorial and it turned out really nice. I didn’t get it perfect lmao, but even with my lack of skill it worked out. Thanks brad! I finally have the layers i’ve been asking for over six years at every salon i’ve gone to 🙃
It was really difficult to do it by myself, my friend helped me and overall I think it looks great!! Except that the front looks way shorter than the back but I can live with it I guess 😅 thank you Brad Mondo I really craved a change and you helped a lot!
Omg 10/10 on the video!! I went to go get layers at a hair salon and I showed her photos of long hair but the lady told me my hair was too short for the style and it wouldn't look the same. I told her it was ok I know it wouldn't look exactly the same so she accepted but all she did was take off like 4 inches of my hair! (I didn't even want my hair trimmed) then she told me that I would have to come back when my hair was grown out so I could get the hairstyle I wanted (btw it cost about $50). I get home and I sleep on it for a day and look in the mirror to check out the back and she did no layers what so ever so I waited another day contemplating if I should just cut my own hair (I've done it before so I had some faith in myself) and finally I decided why not go back to my middle school phase and watch brad mondo and god bless he had a video for layers at home. I followed almost exactly what he said (couldn't get perfectly straight lines when parting) and now I have my desired look it's so pretty and I'm really happy with it thank you so much!!
This is the second time I’ve cut my hair myself n both turned out amazing. Also this was really easy for me, thank you for the MAJOR confidence boost 🤗🙏🏼😁
yesterday i followed a hush cut tutorial and was a bit complicated so it looked horrible. i was screaming internally everytime i see my hair. i just finished cutting a bob version of this and im so in loveeee with my new haircut!!! i can always trust brad's tutorials fr
I am almost %100 sure that hairdressers near me don't know about hush cut, and i am way too shy to show them a tutorial video, so i watched and try to learn, but those tutorials are intimidating!!!
I did this with my wavy curly hair, I've never liked my haircut this much!! Even with a side part it looks amazing (that's how I wear my hair usually) Update: Okay I did this again after a few months, I just LOVE this haircut! My hair is so much wavier at the top, it's more managable, doesn't get tangled that much and dries faster. Love love love! PS.: I did the curtain bangs too, looks amazing with this haircut!
Update: it was super hard because my mom scalp is VERY sensitive so when I pulled all hair she was suffering 😭 but the final result looks AMAZING! I did a blowout with my Dyson Airwrap and it looks like she got out of the salon. (I swear I’m not gonna play it humble lol) I wish I had filmed the whole process and share it on RU-vid so Brad could see it. Thank you so much for this super clear and helpful video 😍😍😍😍😍🥹🥹🥹🥹🥹🥹🥹
It is so crazy how everyone is commenting on the way it came out curly - I too am a curly girl - and I had my hair bone straight for the first time in almost a decade (I’ve done length check blow drys - but not complete blow outs - I am a 3c/4a girl). I could see better where my split ends were and took a chance with this cut. My straight hair came out really nice - and bonus - my curly hair looks amazing! I too was worried I cut too much but it really looks awesome! So simple yet so impactful! Thanks Brad!
I tried this on my hair which already had layers, They were just too long and didn't flow nicely together anymore. At first I was like omg I hope I don't ruin my hair, but I continued and at the end my hair looked so much better; not flat or weighed down. Looks good straightened and with my natural waves
not speaking the language where I’ve been living for the last two years has been an ordeal on my hair. had a haircut over 6 months ago when going back home for a week and since then my hair grew out significantly and it was just so… bland. this tutorial did it for me, and I think it’s been my favorite haircut in years if not ever, and I did it myself! thank you very much, Brad 🌼
Your videos are by far the best I have seen on how to cut your own hair. I have followed a couple of different ones, but was never truly happy with the results I had. Your instructions were clear, you took the time to show everything step by step! You also made it fun! I can honestly state that I am extremely happy with the outcome. No one believes I did it myself!! I accidentally came across your video and figured I would check it out. So glad I did! I am now subscribed to your videos. Thank you so much!!!!
i just did this haircut on my long hair really impulsively at night and ugh i can already tell its gonna look good, thank you so much brad 😩im super excited, im gonna blow dry it tomorrow and update you with results, i really hope i havent fucked it up lmao 💀also, doing this on yourself with long hair is HARD my arms are not long enough!!!!!!
it turned out great, im so happy with the results and my curls/waves just look insanely better with the layers 🥰 blow drying it also looks great!! i am in the process of trying to give myself an at home balayage.... 💀 not going amazing LMAO
If you have curly hair and want to get rid of some weight and give your haircut shape so the curls can pop, go for it!! I did this haircut today, and although it's not perfectttt, it looks SO good!! I have curly hair and it was all shoulder length. I cut the layers in and now it has a soft, slightly mullet-y, very on trend layered curly vibe! Rather than the hair being weighed down with curls at the bottom, I now have more volume at the top and my curls have been cut loose to shine!! Hard to do on the longest part as my arms were not long enough haha, but overall a SUCCESS. Brad is doing God's work for sure.
This is one of the most amazing and helpful tutorials I have seen in years! After cutting myself these layers I watched your video to cut my own bangs and I love the result! Thank you very much for sharing these tipps!
i love him giving us words of encouragement knowing we were all sweating the whole time we were doing this, and i have never been happier with my hair! cut off 7 inches! i feel so much lighter
Rich men created a world where women are able to do all this crap while poor men have to cut their hair off like literal concentration camp inmates or disease victims, just so they can perform whichever Slave Labour job they're required to do to keep rich men rich. I guess it's true, males literally are plantation slaves on a Gov monopolized plantation. All Hail le Supreme virtue of The Managed Plantation Slave Economy.
I just did this on my 2b/c, really thick, past shoulder length hair and omg I was scared cos it was a lot of hair I cut off but it's almost dry and WOW looks amazing 100% recommend! Took me about an hour and a half and didn't use thinning scissors just personal preference. I'll definitely continue to trim my hair like this, thanks Brad Mondo!!❤
To be fail safe... Before you start I think it's a good idea to make a control: Lift up a whole section (like Brad does at 8:39, but ofc cut it yet). Imagine where you'd have to make your cut in order to get the strands to an even length. Without letting the hair go, witch your fingers, pinch the strands that'll lose the length. Pinch where you'd have to make the cut. Keep pinching, bring the rest of the hair down. Now, where you're pinching your hair, that's how short the shortest strands will be. There is another Brad Mondo video "Hairdressers guide to cutting your own hair and not ruining it" from 2020 that you can also follow, which makes you choose your lengt before cutting layers.
Thank you sm! My hair is thick and straight and all I have done in the past is trim the ends and when I tell you my hair feels and looks so much better, like I am amazed!
Oh my gosh! Yesterday I was literally saying how I needed layers in my hair sooo bad and then 22 hours ago brad posts the exact video that I need?!?! Thank you hair gods for hearing my prayers and sending solutions in the form of Brad Mondo!!!
Wow, the best tutorial Ever on layers. I’ve been a diy’er for about 15 years, and this just simplified something I’ve absolutely struggled with. Thank you Brad Mondo ❤
Thank you for this Brad! I did get a little crazy with the scissors and cut off more than what you demonstrated and now have a cute little bob/pixie-ish cut! I really love it, it's fun for the summer and although Im sure it would have been better to get it cut by a professional, I really like how it turned out :) your demonstration was very easy to follow and enjoyable to watch and I felt guided throughout the whole process thank you!
I cut my hair myself this exact way, except the two "back sections" are much shorter, just above my finger basically. Just don't cut the top as much unless you want a mullet...
That whole ass minute when he's pretending to have a conversation with a doll's head 💀 unfortunately a very accurate depiction of the Cutting My Own Hair Mood
