One of the most critical parts of building a DIY Cold Plunge is cutting the top panel for your stock tank to sit in. If you don't get this right, water can leak between the tub and the panel and cause damage over time. In this video, I show the process on how I cut the perfect hole for my stock tank DIY cold tub.

I’m just now cutting my top board however, I already insulated my tub😅. Can I just basically cut my whole to match my outer edge of my tub since that’s kind of how my insulation is flush with?

Gr8 info. Did you frame the entire outside with the same pvc material? Also, what did you use for trim around the top edge and inside the plumbing lid?

I used some LP siding for the sides. I trimmed the mechanical area with strips of the PVC material 👍

Regarding your top pvc piece. Obviously you cut it down to the size you wanted (did you have homedepot cut it for you?). You have pvc trim all the way around adding 1/2" to width and length but your top piece still has overhang even from that (looks like 1/4" overhang all around?). What are the exact dimensions to that top piece? I am guessing its around 38" x 80"?? Ty Great videos!

Hey, I’m working through your plans now, awesome setup. Question on the pvc top sheet - how did you finish it? Paint? Laminate?

Do you have any videos on using silicone sealant to attach the tub to the top panel? Unless I'm wrong the primary reason to do that is to keep the tub in place whem you flip to spray foam?
@DIYColdPlunge
@DIYColdPlunge 9 месяцев назад
I didnt get video of that step. The primary reason is to keep water from seeping in the sides. The tub will stay in place with the pipe strap from the outlet/drain

This is awesome! What kind of PVC (board, panel?) did you use for the top panel? I can only find 1/16" pvc sheets at home depot

Any other recommendations on material for the top? I am having a hard time finding pvc board. Also this will be in my garage out of the elements.

Any exterior siding should work!

Thanks for this video series! I got the complete plan list for the 150 gallon tank, and have two questions I may have missed within the content: - With the siding adding a 1/2 inch of height to the tank frame, does that need to be taken into account with the measurements of the legs, or has that already been taken into account with the dimensions from the framing plan? I just want to make sure the tank doesn't hang on the siding, if that makes sense - Do you have a video that shows you do the silicone around the lip of the stock tank? I assume it's just putting a bead all the way around, is that accurate?

The vertical cuts already account for it 👍 I don't have a video showing that but yes, put a bead all the way around.

Once this is built, can it withstand being in the rain outside before putting in all the plumbing? Or do you recommend building everything one shot to avoid water wetting the frame and pvc top?

THat'd be personal preference! I've seen alot of folks do it alot of ways

I have a couple of questions? We've completed framing & wrapping; about to purchase the pvc board. My guess is that you needed two of the 1/2" pvc boards to finish out the top piece, mechanical area (baseboard & top access) and the entire frame's top edge. In this video it appears that you lined the top edge all the way around the frame with a strip of pvc board. Did you keep that strip in place or was it removed once the siding was put in place? Was it "flush" with the wooden frame boards? if the edge pieces stayed in place did you seal the top panel to this edge piece with a sealant? The pvc board used to frame the inside of the mechanical access area is it about an inch above the barewood frame, putting it about 1/2" above the pvc top panel??? Thnx for any assitance.

Hey! this was purely a cosmetic choice for finishing my design. As long as the top panel spans the entire length and width (including the siding) you'll be good. You basically only want seams on the sides not the top

Top panel on this one was a 4x8 1/2" pvc sheet. I've used LP Siding panels too

It would be awesome if the tub drain was a standard size thread, would one less hole...

I feel like the stock drain plugs should be replaced regardless, there's been so many instances of leaks.
