This is totally unrelated to the actual work here Jeff but I feel I should share this with you. A couple of years back my brother was struggling with anxiety & depression. I know, I know but during that time I was learning how to do a bunch of handy work which is how I discovered your channel. Anyway we would sit down to watch you renovate homes & teach us how to build sheds together. We really learned a lot from you & your attitude gave both of us confidence. It very easily could've been another YT channel or something else but it was truly you that kept us coming back. We couldn't wait to see what you would teach us next but you also made us laugh man & for that I am truly grateful. You helped my brother pull through. Thank you Jeff!

I don't understand who are these 143 ppl, who did not like this video. You are the best. I have finished my basement just by watching your videos, saved almost $25000. Now I have installed drain assembly for my bathtub first floor, and used the same copper assembly(the flexible one you suggested in one of your videos), and installed my new bathtub. Now time to tile my bathtub with porcelain tiles. Thanks once again. Really appreciate.

I genuinely appreciate this channel, Jeff. Even though I'm over in Finland, the sense applies regardless. Do get that guard back on your grinder (I know it makes sighting harder) and stop breathing dust! We need you around longer to finish up our training, and eventually retire in good health! Absolutely an under-rated channel. Thanks.

@@charmerxxx i can atest, I assemble furniture and the first 3-4 monthsi was learning to cut those rail things that you mount upper cabinets to, and i guess i put the cutting grinder disc on the point or tilted it too much, bascially the whole thing exploded into my face i was wearing 0 protection and there was no guard, and i managed to not get a single scratch or thing getting into my eye, after that glasses are a must have, still too lazy to use hearing protection for the grinder and track saw but oh well , 1 by 1

Thank you Jeff so much for this video. The timing couldn't have been more perfect as I did my kitchen backsplash today. I had a scratch tool and snippers all set, but after watching this last night I went out first thing before I started and got the cutting wheel for my grinder. Couldn't have made the job easier and better looking while working so quickly around all the plugs, etc. Tile is all set, wife is happy, and waiting for the grout tomorrow.

for a beginner/diy guy (not me but for them out there), use the grinder guard and u can place your thumb on it to keep the grinder steady and also put the grinder down without it running on you if it catches the blade. Also, u can use your speed square to mark the back of the tile where your front marks are at when plunging instead of eyeing it..usually noobs will miss and have to restart the cut since the outlet cut (in this video) will not hold the outlet lip when screwing it back into place. And use a sponge to keep dust down and keep the tile cooled off just squeeze some water over your cut area. Noobs will apply too much pressure and most likely break the piece a couple times. Just some ideas. Good video none the less

Jeff, I just finished cutting tile for our Master Bath and used the angle grinder cut off wheel you suggested. It worked great! Even cutting the hole for the toilet flange worked just as you said it would. If I may make a suggestion: Wear a face shield and N95 mask. Inhaled silica can lead to silicosis. We need you around for another 50 years so we can continue to learn from your experience! Happy Trails! John

These videos are a life saver. Informative and easy to follow. I’m not as handy as I would like to be. I’m a software developer frustrated with finding a good contractor full of excuses in the area I live in. Starting to try to do some projects myself and your videos have been amazing. Not only do they Tech me the techniques I need to know but they make me feel better about the projects I’m doing. I feel a lot more confident I’m not going to royally screw up my house. I’m about to put in some porcelain tile flooring in our bathroom and when it came to figuring out the toilet flange which just so happens to be right smack in the middle of a large 12x24” tile I was like how on earth does that work. Well you solved that issue for me and I’m actually kind of excited to try cutting out a circle now. It’s yet another tool to buy I may only use once but oh well. Still cost less then hiring a contractor assuming I can even find one right now. They are all backed up with work for months.

Thanks for such a clear video. I've used my angle grinder to cut 6 x 6 inch porcelain floor tiles and it got the job done, but I never dreamed I could cut those big 2 foot square tiles reasonably straight with the same set up. Using the rectified edge as guide and then marking the cut with the grinder at about 5 degrees was when I knew I could do it. That's real information in the context of getting real work done. I'm putting a 2 x 4 foot tile as a jointless work area on my tired formica kitchen benchtop and then cutting 2 x 2 ft tiles to fit around it. (Well, 600 by 600 here in Australia.) I'm going to have to practice letting a good blade do the cutting with just the weight of the grinder on larger work, but I have picked up some 2 by 2 ft tiles cheaply at $15 for three that are not the right color. I think I am good to go now.

Another great video! A secondary tool to buy is a 5 amp rotary tool, like the rotozip or dremel, that takes the 1/8" or 3/16" diamond bits for cutting smaller things like electrical outlets and pipe holes. Then go around with the same bit and tune up strike plates for doors that have trouble latching because of house settling. That pretty much pays for there.

I currently do flooring and the grinder is the one tool that is used the most. The wet saw is barely used. The toilet flange cut was worth watching cause I did it the wrong way. Also I was happy to watch and see you sink the blade as I always made passes of the sorts due to the fear of the tile breaking from the excessive heat created. Thank you and this has helped me out a ton.

As always, I love Jeff's videos. Thanks for the tip about not cutting glass with a grinder as I was about to. I would urge Jeff and all viewers to wear dust mask and ear muffs. Actually, I recently cut some thick tiles with a grinder and similar porcelain/ceramic blade and cuts easily. I did it directly on the lawn and laid a hose with running water flowing over the cut line. Worked perfectly and eliminated virtually all dust. I marked the cut lines with permanent marker which was not affected by the water. Grinder was fine and there was no electrocution. A home made wet saw!

Very helpful for me tiling around a toilet, and the soil pipe. Personally I would wear ear plugs, hand protection, a dust mask, goggles( hopefully the mask wont make them steam up !). For an an amateur using an angle grinder can be very dangerous so take care, and try and use a guard, and wait for the blade to stop spinning before you put it down!! If possible use a clamp to hold tiles to your cutting board to prevent them from flying off :) Thank you for the video

Ty for this vid esp regarding glass tile. The techniques you used are the same that my brother and I use during installation. I never knew there was name for the piano key cut. Finally, your angle grinder the exact same my brother uses. A great tool to have

I'm so glad I found you. You have saved me so much time and money as I rehab an old house. Just today I was thinking of buying a diamond blade for my jigsaw to cut corners on three tiles. Instead you taught me how to use nips or my angle grinder to do the job like a pro. In fact I already had a diamond blade for the grinder. Thanks again, your lessons are a new tool I can carry on every job I do. Keep up the great work.

There were a few left over bits from a large tiling job, which I was really keen on getting sorted. Our tiler is so busy it'll take him months to come. When looking for a mitre wet saw (!) I came across your video and thought I might as well try it myself. I do have an angle grinder, even with a blade for ceramics and made decent cuts right away. This video of yours was a great motivation to just do it myself. Thanks!

Good video. I have the same Ridgid wet saw. I use my grinder a lot too, works great for center round and square cuts. I enjoy watching how other craftsmen do things. Good work.

As someone who over-thinks to all hells before starting a(anything at all) project, this video has been massively helpful, and I loved the camera work as well as the added information because I would think,"why..-" and then you would explain it or later on you would,or you sometimes say,"you might be thinking,'why'.." and then you just magically explain the thing!! Thank you so much, this is a very information-rich video for a beginner, and I am currently still going to be breaking up 2 layers of tile before I start my entry and back entry flooring, but thank you so much for alleviating future dilemmas with tools and techniques!

I'm a pre apprentice for tile and screwed up almost every porcelain tile score cut! I'm kinda glad to know they do break easily not in a straight line. I was having so many issues that i felt so bad and felt like a fuck up honestly... it really made be feel awful but after that we went back to some ceramic tiles and i didn't have any issues scoring those!!
