How to Cycle from Liverpool City Centre to Crosby Beach

It is safe and easy to cycle all the way from Liverpool to the beach at Crosby. This route should be perfect for the summer!
We start in the city centre and head north to the start of pop-up cycleway 3 on Vauxhall Road which we take all the way to Bootle where we turn off onto a quiet side street. A detour is required to pass Bootle Strand shopping centre before we head of on filtered residential roads and parks all the way to the Beach. Near the end of the route there are some barriers which are difficult to negotiate on a standard bike, and probably impossible on a trike or tandem.
Going this way avoids cycling along the shared use path on the busy A565, or using the canal towpath which is far too narrow to be a main cycle route. I hope this video is helpful to some and subscribe to see more like it in the future!

Otterspool Prom > Albert Dock > Regents Road > Port of Liverpool > Crosby Beach. That's my usual route that i use quite often, as it's 95% cycle paths. I'll have to try this way next time though.

Yeah I'd recommend the regent road (the dock road) route over this one. It's one straight line and there's a permanent cycle path.

I used to go along Regent Road, across the iron bridge (that was in Captain America no less), onto Crosby Road South and then left on Cambridge Road. I'll never forget when I turned that last corner and saw the sand dunes ahead of me. Sunday was the best time to go along that route as the factories were closed and there was literally no trucks or traffic, but I dunno if it's still like that.

Regent Road has a bi directional segregated cycle path now. Much better than it used to be!

Once you are on Crosby front, you can get all the way to Formby by just using cycle/footpaths...except for a short, quiet stretch from S. Hightown to the station...straight along Blundell Rd.. After that, you can pick up the path again which runs between the training camp and the railway. Further coastal and woodland paths can get you to Ainsdale then Southport. You can always get the train back.

Yes I went all the way up to Southport this way once, its a really scenic ride through the trees and dunes!

Great video, I've no intention of doing the route but I enjoyed the video, I like how you didn't put music over it, as I was loading it I thought better turn the volume down cos I don't wanna hear the cheesy music most ppl play over them 🤣 You deserve more subscribers

The cycle lanes on Vauxhall Road are a disgrace. Bicycles having to give way to traffic from side roads at every single junction, the pavement for pedestrians being in between the cycle lane and the road. Sums up everything that's wrong with urban cycle planning. Hopefully the new fully segregated cycle lane on the dock road is a sign of things to come

That bike lane on Great Georges is now complete. But they did it in black tarmac with very little visual differentiation to the road surface so it catches people out and you often see cars swinging onto it before realising the layout's changed. If they'd done it in a different colour tarmac, it would've been far safer & usable!

It’s not a bit like the Netherlands for cycling. I think I only saw around 5 bikes on the whole route which is a real shame.

Nice video but would definitely not take this route. As bad as the shared cycle path after on Crosby Road South is, it's at least direct, easy to follow and avoids being on the road with cars.

I make these videos to suggest traffic free routes anyone can use. This way is still quite direct and keeps you far away from busy roads which I wouldn't feel safe cycling along.
