I'm actually kinda glad that I met my psychopath. Sure, they used me, but I've used their behavior to figure out who to leave out of my life and who to let in. It really made me more aware of the state and personalities of people and it also helped me a lot with the psychology of other people as well as my own mentally ill sisters.

But psychopaths DO have feelings. Just for themselves though. They can feel sadness, anger, excitement, etc. If a person had NO feelings, they would be like a vegetable or catatonic. Psychopaths have no EMPATHY or REMORSE, but they do have personal feelings.

Personal shallow feelings are not the same as emotions their inability to experience love, compassion, harmony, peace or joy ultimately a tragedy for the psychopath. In the end they don't care, *"Mind over matter, I don't mind and you don't matter"*

Narcissists ARE capable of feelings and remorse... but not for very long. Their trauma/developmental injury occurred late enough that they had already developed some empathy. Sociopaths generally feel very little to no feeling or empathy - their injury occurred very early before they began to develop. I'm not sure about psychopaths ... I'm sure it comes from extreme trauma, making them monstrous. They're not all violent though. They're the most dangerous people though - as they're capable of great evil with NO remorse or care

Excellent advice. Took me a long time to even believe what I was dealing with. At first, I thought he was just an abuser. So, expose the abuser was the advice, only to find out he did exactly what you said - he was so far ahead of the game, he had already gotten to everyone! Right from the beginning when we first started dating! I just looked even crazier than he was telling people I was. However, that's the only way I finally started believe what IT was. It's an insane situation to deal with - and by the way support? HA! He took care of all that right from the beginning - cut me off and isolated me completely. Forgiving yourself - you have to or it will eat you alive. Great vid!

+Sarabi Scruggs --- in my experience, they would avoid an outburst as much as possible. So if I was to disappear suddenly, they wouldn't act out on the redflags, so as not to create a scene. If they create a scene, it means there is a problem, that they have lost control, and that they are infact, nuts! From my experience, they've always tried to sweet talk their way back by emotional manipulation, guilt tripping, etc. I think it's best to cut away and to not give in to the guilt-tripping (if you have that option!)

I was in a relationship where I had to make up my mind on what I wanted to do with completely shutting the woman off for continuing to text her and this is after we broke up. She would text me thousands of text messages, complete manipulation from a sociopath. Not going to say what she said because some of it is actually rather raunchy, and private however not speaking to her cause me more problems then sending the occasional text back even just the emoji con, she eventually just gave up and left me alone. It took about a total of a month once I found out exactly what kind of person she was to get her off of my back. But as I said when I started to completely cut her off it got worse and she came to my house and was banging on my door literally for hours.

this is right on. my sister is like this. it took me decades to figure it out and the only way I felt better was when I finally cut ties with her. she twisted everything, she lied constantly, she was cruel and hid it from others, she faked emotions, she was cold, she was mean, she was incredibly narcissistic, charismatic, smart, talented. it was absolutely awful dealing with her even for 5 minutes. anyway, it's too bad because I really needed a good sister but it wasn't to be I guess. it's like she really doesn't understand what human feelings are. it's very odd.

Its so sad dealing with psychopaths especially when they are/were your friends. The reason is that there is no hope to ever change them and break the wall of their cold nature. The only thing to do is to give up and accept and that's what is sad about it. I see mostly the best in every person and that's why it's hard for me understanding and dealing with psychopaths.
@NarutoFreakii
@NarutoFreakii 7 лет назад
***** well that's right, but you got to see for yourself whats a better lifestyle in your eyes. I don't see having most power as a potential life fuel. My fuel is being in balance with my self and so being in harmony with everyone else. From that comes greatness in my eyes, not from might. Not having might doesn't mean you are nothing and worthless. You are a human and you are able to become the best version of yourself without benefiting from others and so harming them, the only "struggle" with this is that it's the harder way. but in my whole life I didn't see the easy way as the good way. the hard way is forming the best personalities, abilities and empathy for your surroundings. Psychopaths though would never see it in the way i see it, but that's the reason why I believe that they are more or less kind of "dead inside".

oh yah, i went total stockholm syndrome a year or so ago, after they cut my hair and left live 357 bullets in my bed, 5x, 5 bullets. Disconnected my heat, and vandalized my security cameras, 3x each, on separate occasions. I thought it was raccoons on my roof, expected to find piss-pots and sleeping bags in my attic! after seeing my stored stolen clothes on them on fakebook. There was so much to document, i started taking pix, they deleted over 800 from @ 2 years. it was almost every week, i had to start over, cleaning and clearing, they bring in and leave clues to let me know who. Im done. Im not leaving. I hope i dont have any emergencies, i have no one. had a gal stay on a few of their nights, she went out side when she heard them, they played her like a fiddle, snuck in, she passed out... 7x. i helped her move out. Turns out she was on drugs and got mean and mouthy towards me. She came back, and stole more. Nope, i figured out how, now, its gonna be over my dead body, unless i find some help to set up cameras and establish security. maybe hire a guard , to go to dr and dentist.

sociopaths have an unconscious attachment to old feelings of being marginalized and rejected. Their narcisistic and manipulative behavior is a psychological defense used to hide their unconscious entanglement with these negative emotions of unworthiness. Of course the victims of sociopaths also gravitate unconsciously towards emotions of helplessness and powerlessness. So basically the sociopath and his victim have the same unconscious unresolved issue.

He also neglected to mention that psychopathy is a spectrum, and each tell-tale sign of psychopathy he describes varies wildly in severity across different psychopaths.

This video is right on. I dealt with a psychopath and realized it and went silent on her because she did everything behind my back to ruin any other relationships I had with other people that were mutual friends and by golly she was successful. After I cut her completely off which she didn't like, she pulled one on me trying to get me to accept her friendship again. Little did I know that was a trap and fell for it. From that interaction, she completely twisted it around to make me look soooo very bad when I did absolutely nothing in the wrong. She went on to tell our mutual friends about how awful I was from this one interaction like it was already bad enough to begin with. So he is right don't fall for the second go around because if they didn't burn you enough the first time, they will get immense pleasure in burning you the second time like sticking a knife in your back and twisting it. After that, that was it. No more interaction of any any kind and there won't be any more interaction of any kind from me in the future and she knows it. But the damage has been done. She wrecked just about every friendship I had. I am serious. EVERY SINGLE FRIENDSHIP where she was in the picture.....GONE!

I'm reading your book with the intentions and hopes of learning how to cope/deal with her successfully without allowing her to continue triggering me... Thanks again. :-)

Dear David, I am SO pleased I found your website and video. I have a tenant who is a psychopath and his continuous lies have frustrated me so much. In fact, his lies have had such a negative impact on me. I have felt that my integrity has been compromised. Initially, I could not understand why he had such a bad effect on me, but with time, I have realised that this man has a huge personality disorder. That it's not me that is going crazy. He has started sabotaging my existence by doing strange things. Destroying some of my personal things in the garden, switching off geysers and taps, etc. I realise he is doing this out of anger of some kind. So I have one or two questions for you please. This tenant lives in my garden flatlet. I have 3 small dogs, who he has always shown affection to. I am forced to give him notice of the flatlet as I just cannot have this negative energy around me. BUT I have a fear. That he will react adversely if I give him notice, and that he could hurt my dogs as he knows they are dear to me. He will obviously ask me why I am giving him notice, and I will tell him I need the flatlet for my son to store his furniture in, as he is moving to the UK soon. This is not the truth, but I need a way of getting him out without him knowing what I really feel. Are they cruel people and do they have jealous streaks? I realise that not engaging is the best way to deal with a psychopath. Will he catch on that I am suddenly removing myself, and retaliate? I have become fearful of what he may do as time goes by, and I am becoming very uneasy having him around. Please, David, I need your help!! Warm regards, Elaine Baxter - South Africa

I tend to find the real trigger for psychopaths is when they have to do something tangible or deal with reality. That is when they reveal their true colours, the anger, the egoism, the arrogance, the laziness , the fecklessness and passing the buck. When I told other employees about his bad temper they'd look at me as if to say, "Are you talking about the same person?". For the record, I quit in the end.

If you have discovered a psychopath in your life, cutting contact immediately is just about the most pathetic move you can do! You're already knee-deep, take your time and explore their demented mentality, ensure you fully comprehend the depth of their depravity, their lack of personal identity, their inability to speak the truth, and their limits before they explode into rage. Otherwise you'll be asking questions forever and might even accept another psychopath into your life unconsciously to find answers you didn't ask when you had the chance. Thank god i didn't cut and run.... I understood intellectually, I saw evidence physically, but the true weight of the demonic truth didn't hit me until much later when I 'accidentally' ran into her just after being rejected from the life of some innocent but obviously smarter guy than I was. She was literally a hound from hell, trying to play the role she did with me, but suffering the loss of narcissistic supply, she couldn't do it. She actually ran away after trying to overcome her emotional hunger for a human soul. This was not a rejected human.. this was a wolf denied it's meat to consume. It was the closest thing I've come to being seated directly in front of Satan. She attacked me physically many times, and the last time she had a couch over her head to squash me with. I would never go back to her apartment again, but fuck her.... she lives blocks away.. that is my specimen, guinea pig, and personal psychopath subject for life. She gives me the willies more than any serial killer documentary... you want to permanently walk away from that? She is, as I have been saying the past few weeks, a human/animal hybrid.

Maybe, but there's unintentional harm that could be caused by any action that someone takes. For example, a businessperson could buy real estate to build up, which includes an apartment building. This could cause the renters to have to move and/or potentially be homeless depending on his/her living situation and financial statistic. Now, if that businessperson happens to be a psychopath or sociopath - does that make the unintentional action evil?

Keep quiet? What about a duty to warn others, even if it has a price? I think psychopaths need to face a world that knows them and expects them to follow the rules that are intended to apply to everyone, i.e., be a productive part of the community, even if you don't feel like it. And many do use their focus and planning skills to succeed in many fields. We all get our character assessed by others and often receive their opinion about it. Keep quiet? That's a formula for recurring emotional stress as a psychopath moves from naïve person to naïve person. No, the video is here as a warning, and we should not wait to issue it until after damage is done. An understanding of the phenomenon should be a part of a young person's education, and acculturation of young psychopaths into the productive, positive application of their unique traits should be a part of our culture.

She shows no emotions whatsoever and harms me physically and emotionally without feeling bad. She's younger than me by 5 years, but she still uses physical abuse on me. I thinks it's the fact that her dad(my stepdad) said I couldn't hit her or he'd hit me, so I never touch her. She takes advantage of the fact that I can't hit her back. Plus, I'm a bit on the sensitive, insecure-ish side so I'm pretty much easy at being her victim. She's also pretty messy and takes advantage of others to do her chores. And, she's really smart. Gets mostly A's in school. Acts like every word that comes out of her mouth is correct. No matter how right I could be about something, she doesn't stop the fight because she wants to always be right... What is she?

It's vaguely possible I'm way off-base here. But it seems that "psychopathy", as described here, is adulterated by popular scientific bias and crosses the line into "narcissistic personality disorder". I believe that it is not necessary for the latter to be present whenever the former is observed (nor, most interestingly, vice versa). As for why this secret dichotomy may be possible without having been observed previously: A "pure" psychopath, while still fully outside of social norms in terms of thought processes and even some actions, should possess the logical capacity to engage society in such a manner as will benefit him without drawing the sort attention which proves harmful to most who step outside the arbitrary demarcations of good and bad behavior dictated by society - and by society's most corrupt agent, government. In short, I am convinced that egomania and other such sins are neither pre- nor corequisite to psychopathy, and I find it rather insulting to ascribe a particular illness of the soul and mind to a broad spectrum of so-called "psychopathic" individuals who cannot all be measured. And who, even were they all measured, could not be measured with any degree of certitude by anyone other than another psychopath. Which begs the question: Who diagnoses the psychopath who can diagnose all the others? Which leads to the inevitable conclusion: psychology can observe and guess and extrapolate and theorize and hypothesize. They can make few informed diagnoses without firsthand experience, and even fewer guarantees of said diagnoses.

Pill Box Psychopaths don't necessarily have "way less" in terms of emotion. The primary difference between a psychopath and you is, generally speaking, _empathy,_ or the lack or reduction thereof. That does not mean that emotion is necessarily stunted - though it certainly can be - it merely means that one's emotional connections to others is weak.

Pill Box I was married to a narc for 12 years a narc and i couldn't disagree with you more. There is very little difference between the two. A narc needs validation and adulation.A psychopath doesn't. Narcs hurt people to feel better about themselves. Psychopaths.hurt people for their own amusement and entertainment.Their is a tendency to find a more of a criminal element among Psychopaths.A narc can respond to treatment a Psychopath can't. It's so hard to stop contact when I'm so in love but I know I'm dying inside . No longer physical violence has stopped the emotional abuse has killed me inside yet he keeps me he's changed . although I realise after only 5 minutes now that it's all a facade as he always wants something

Don't mess with these people they are willing to go to lengths that we cannot imagine. If you do get free, don't go back! Run ❤

So as of recent I've learnt that I have a lot of psychopathic traits. I'm only 16 so there's a lot of things I haven't experienced which may trigger certain traits. From this videos criteria I'd say that I fit 1, 2, 4, 5 and 6. I definitely have feelings, guilt, remorse for the majority of situations, although some I don't have remorse when others do. Anybody else the same?

yup, right beside hate and envy and need to manipulate and control, even if they claim to love someone, its really about possessiveness, which is not love, like the one here, said, my ex was his and he would turn me into mush cuz he is adept at aikido if i didnt give him peace i would be sorry. I emailed my ex, i'm happy for you and if you have a chance at a percentage of the happiness i had with my husband, go for it! fare well, good bye. (funny, i broke up with him and saw they got engaged the next day.) he also said stuff that he didnt say, but said he was repeating himself. i only have the 2 emails. 42 and 32 year olf=d goth punk pretty boy slaves with tits on estrogen, they live off the state. Do not see professional psychiatritsts, not treatment, but transgender counseling, and love my clothes!!! im sick of doing the laundry, they bring back dirty and trade out for something else, clean, my closet is all over my bedroom. Pants are cut off, seams are torn... somebody took some prescriptions, ty would never do that. someone gave my kitty a limp that lasted 3 weeks, ty would never do that. it would have taken ty 3-4 hours to get here, chris drives an rv. they left me a photo shopped voodoo doll saying they were going to alienate my friends, blow up my motor, brakes fail, run out of gas, muffler fall off, my anniversary date and where i bought my locks. Yup. Check. They dance in front of my motions sensors, i get up, open the door, quietly say, come on in ill kick your ass, i can take you, and i have i scream. Then add, get off my property, get a life, leave mine alone, and my fave lately, Just real calm late at night through my screen, quietly say, you will never have me, and you will never be me. giggle, and resume what i was doing. Lately its the phone ringing to wake me in the middle of the night. big deal. I dont care and darn sure not gettin up, unless i gotta use the restroom. Like, okay, kool, and go back to sleep. im done with fear in my home.

I think that your advice is dangerous, compulsive, and over simplified. You're telling people to immediately cut off all contact with someone when that person isn't qualified to determine the other person's condition, if there is a condition. What if this is a family situation? Maybe it's the psychopath who's framing the other person. You could be giving advice that can break up families indefinitely for all you know. If a "no contact" is going to be put in place, then both parties should be seen by a qualified therapist before that major shot is called to determine what the problem really is. In my opinion, this advice constitutes malpractice.
@likeabunnie
@likeabunnie 9 лет назад
AGREE! Step ONE should be to get help from a professional...this video contradicts itself throughout, it's vague, not research based, and I do not believe this individual is currently a qualified therapist (he doesn't claim to currently be, though it seems implied after he describes being one decades ago, but note at the end his name is written without any qualifications added to it as a therapist would have. I have a degree in psychology (BA) and feel I'm entirely unqualified to make any of this extreme advice, yet I know enough to say this presentation is at least unethical, and that no qualified therapist would even give this advice based on blanket information, much less something like this video alleging that psychopaths have "no feelings" as a way to tell you are dealing with one, yet also says they will likely get very emotional to get you back into their world...how does one correctly judge if another feelings are legitimate (as I think the presenter means by "no feelings" rather than defining the very broad concept)... Also, the presentation contradicts itself throughout, for instance stating at the begining that you likely knew something was off about the "psychopath" at first meeting but ignored your instincts, then later saying there was no way to know. One of the first advice he offers is to strengthen your social support system, and then he says to keep quiet about it and not tell friends (he didn't even just limit it to mutual friends, he directs to not share with any friends, which I take issue with for many reasons, especially if you have genuine concern for your safety (in which suddenly cutting contact could be very dangerous) but you would then keep quiet and allow others to share the same fate. At the end. this man encourages you to email him if you need help with your situation. PLEASE, IF YOU NEED ASSISTANCE IN ANY WAY FOR THIS SUBJECT, CONSULT A PROFESSIONAL...this man does not act as if he is qualified or a current professional in the field.

You don't need a diagnosis in all cases, however, sometimes, family members have undiagnosed issues and they are the ones causing trouble in the family. This can cause entire families to break apart for good. Instead the family should be getting help from a professional before the whole family is split apart and the issues become far more complex.

+Tina Huston you're not gonna get any help from 99% of therapists. they're gonna be treating you as a potential psychopath, because your anxiety level is gonna be sky rocketing and it is very difficult to tell a psychopath from the victim--and they won't be doing any diagnosis of a party not under their care. they'll put you on an antidepressant so you can "communicate better" (in a state of brain fog) and then they'll be lauding their "success". best to learn how to spot em, learn how to counter rebuffs, and distance yourself emotionally from narcissists of all kinds. what they WON'T talk about is most predators have a neurological problem related to genetic inheritance- depending on geographical area, about 1:4 males are thought to be affected.

He was a power and control manipulator. polite and charismatic at a party but alone at home with him he would put me down, ask where i was going whenever i got up, always a fight when i wanted to go out with friends and never met my parents the 4 years we dated. The only reason i didnt leave until march of 2015 was that he had made me feel like no one else would love me because i was the crazy one. be it a man or woman suffering from this same situation i tell with love and compassion; the best thing to do is leave. i am so much happier and actually have my own gamenight with friends. and with self love and the love of my friends. Hello Everyone, Two weeks ago I ve separated from my boyfriend...our relation lasted 7 years. He is a psychopath. Weeks two of our relationship....he s done something horrible to me that I should not have let go. But I did. And during the 7 years, he did not treat me well...I ve left him more than once but he always came back and I ve always forgave him for the unforgivable things he done to me. He never shown any remorse, apologised or took me in his arms to comfort me. For him, I ve always merited the treatments he gave me. He might be a psychopath But what am I to be able to love such a person? Certainly something very wrong with me too? Today, I keep far away from him. I feel like shit but I keep strong and remind myself that soon all will only be a memory. Thank you for reading. E from France

I'm a psychopath, and I've known for a very long time. I've known people like you who try to use these methods towards me, and I really don't care, you're only making an ass of yourself when in reality I don't care. I'm pretty self sufficient, and I am in a position of relative power. People often ask me for help and I oblige without asking anything of them. Videos like this dehumanize people like myself. I've done more good than harm in my life and I generally keep to myself.

***** Sorry, but you are so, so wrooong! Firstly: No, I don't like Trump! Why do you insult me! LOL! Secondly: I'm quite educated, thank you very much :-) ! Thirdly : They even measured my intelligence at two occasions, (the only way we really know how to today, and I admit IQ-tests don't measure all kinds of intelligence. It mostly measures that you're good at IQ-tests) , and I was actually in the top 10 % of the population. And I say this not to brag, only to prove to you that you can't draw conclusions and think that you know a person that easily! Fourthly: English is not my first language! I'm swedish and I live in Sweden and I have never lived in England or the US ! My spelling might be wrong sometimes , especially when the fucking T9 predicts the wrong word (or whatever the word programs in the phones are called today). But while my spelling might be wrong sometimes, I still can speak English quite fluently, as most Swedish people do. I even studied advanced english at the university, even though it's quite a long time ago now... Fifthly : Sometimes I spell words wrongly. But it's okay, at least I speak some more languages than my own .( Not only english) so I can communicate with other people in their own languages. It's often much more rewarding :-). Most people in Sweden speak at least 3 languages today, including their own. May I ask - How many languages do people normally speak in your country with the exception of their own? And notice I don't just assume you're american! Sixthly : I'd like to add: You don't have to feel sorry for me anymore! I , on the other hand, feel very sorry for you and your need to be rude to, and put other people down in a sneaky polite way of false biases, preconceptions and stereotypes, in your quickly drawn conclusions . Seventhly and finally: Please try not to judge people with preconceptions in the future... And learn some humility... You can learn that! You can get better :-) Greetings all the way from Sweden :-)

It is very possible to develops emotions that weren't there. It is all in finding the right button and pressing it. +accidentsafe On the surface of awareness, yes. Being a psychopath and being psychotic seem to be mixed up easily anyhow. If one is psychotic, emotions such as jealousy, fear, anger, and resentment are constantly present, and pre-dominate. Said emotions are frequently used by a psychotic individual to justify why he/she could/should brutally murder someone else. Psychopath: Specific negative emotions are more sensitive, much more amplified. Psychotic: Negative emotions justify for the individual why he/she should throw a Molotov cocktail inside a house window and kill everyone inside. Particularly feelings of "eye for an eye" 'don't get mad, get even x4'.

This is the best-detailed description of a psychopath. I lost my job because HR, and people in leadership positions, managers, supervisors, etc are clueless as to how to recognize them in the workplace. Once she realized that she could not manipulate me and that I was on to her, she did not feel comfortable when I was around. It did not sit well her when I socialized and had honest relationships with other coworkers, she felt excluded. Psychopaths are always looking for naive hosts to do their dirty work for them so that it can't be traced back to her. It took her years, but she succeeded in my losing my job. I couldn't blame HR or my bosses because they were clueless about psychopathic behavior. I wish you could have been the HR person at my workplace, just imagine me trying to argue my case, oh by the way she held a higher position than me, yea.Once again this is the best of all the videos I've seen on psychopaths. If you identify as a psychopath or a sociopath then you absolutely are not one and clearly haven't researched the subject much at all. What part do you think is retarded? I've read a few books on this and done many nights of research. Many websites do claim there's a difference but all brain scan research refers to the same disorder. I'm yet to find a scientific study that shows that sociopaths have a different brain defect (broken amygdala) than psychopaths. In confessions of a sociopath it explains how they are interchangeable terms and that was written by one. The part about people identifying as one is because they have zero sense of self in their brain. They do not identify at all so it's crazy to see so many people say they are psychopaths when a real one would just act like an ordinary person and do everything to hide the true fact.

Thank you. My psychopath is my foreign husband who has me trapped by my cancer treatments in his native country where I've lived with him for over 10 years. I've approached my family back in the States, desperately trying to get them to see that I'm basically being held by a lunatic, but no-one believes me and will not offer to help me escape. I've called hotlines and reached out to support groups online, but there just really isn't any help for someone in as deep as I am (chronically ill, needing expensive medical treatment, no money of my own, nowhere to go in the states, etc). Sometimes I find myself considering not taking anymore chemo, letting death overtake me as my only escape. But your concrete advise here empowers me. If you work with them say yes, smile and get the hell away. Do not engage, to not become their focus cause you will loose. They will smell like roses as they destroy you. Working with someone who is a psychopath you may have to change job before they they ruin your reputation and get you fired. They truly do no have any sympathy in a human context. Many years later, but still a big thanks for this helpful info.. Had cut off contact with a psychopath 2years ago but yesterday he again gave me grief through another person. Cheekily came onto my property and instructed the other person to cut down my trees. I ordered him off my land and the other guy got scared and went away but he just calmly loaded his tractor and stole the wood. Early this morning he was back with another guy and they loaded up my firewood all day right in front of my eyes with him smirking I forbade them to put a foot on my land but he just ignored it. The police here are so corrupt that they always take his side even if I have proof. I have taken him to court but they always just archive my complaint. A man's world!!!! I am a woman of age alone in a Mediterranean country where wives are only house and bed slaves, often beaten. After 25 years here and at my age I have no more family abroad to go back to and there are few other foreigners around in this country. I thus have to make the best of it and that is how I found your advice!!! Thanks again.

This is by far the best discussion of manipulation by anti-social I've read or listened to on this subject. It mirrors exactly what I saw in a previous relationship and how I was able to get away from it. The only way is to GET AWAY and STAY AWAY NO MATTER WHAT. Any time I gave in even the least bit in an attempt to be friendly did nothing but bring requests for me to get in line and be there for that person. I've seen this person burn through a handful of relationships which of course were everyone else's fault. Now the person has no friends and dating/depending on someone 20 years older to even make it through life financially. For anyone worried I'd follow these exact instructions.

Psychopaths do apologize -- but only to further their own sick agendas, not because they are genuinely sorry for causing anyone pain. They know normal people are expected to feel bad when they transgress against others, so they mimic this emotion in order to keep the victim(s) in their lives.
