Interesting that happened before either leopards or tigers had evolved lol. These in the game are machairodont sabre-tooth cats if I recall correctly, a distinct lineages seperate to all modern cats. The famous smilodon is also in that group. Now you know 👍 Also what are you referring to as a leopard? There's only one species of cat (well genus) in this game I thought. Basically just variants of Machairodus innit?

It's pretty cool but can also get unrealistic. 3 generations is a long time ud think that tiger would eventually die of old age at least... goddamn The game intends for u to evolve after 2 generations BTW. By the third generation ur actually losing mutations. U should only do a third generation if u think u can reroll better mutations and get to a meteor. But those situations are very rare. So it should usually be two generations, 3 max. Evolve. U should be maxing out ur neuron tree hitting reinforcements and getting exploring the map and killing all the animals and eating all the new food u can find before changing each generation that way when u evolve u get more years. Really sucks when u evolve but don't actually chance species because species changes come with new mechanics.

UPDATE: After finishing the jungle zone I moved on to great lake, where I've begun exterminating all life (I play a LOT more aggressively now than I did 3 wks ago). BTW, the crocs here are pretty tough. Ive got some decent neuronal damage bonuses unlocked, but it took 2 sharpened sticks followed by 5 more unsharpened ones, stuffed into his gullet, before the bugger finally dropped. Now, if the game would let me, i'd use my obsidian scraper and an awl to fashion the belly hide into napsacks, so my monkey legions could carry more than just what their two hands can hold ... but no dice. No dice on naking fire or atlatyl (spear thrower) either. 😏 Heck, gimme a hematite deposit, wood and a source of clay, and within a week or two I could smelt enough steel to make a machete, hammer, chisel, knife, tongs, and a viking style post anvil and thereby jump directly from the stone age to the iron age. No dice there either.

Use the sharpened basalt rock. It doesn't break. You can chase the tiger down.

i remember i was wandering around with another monkey with spears because a golden saber was bugging me, and then the saber came out of nowhere, and then we started taking turns getting eaten until i led into the base, and then it took multiple attempts but i killed the saber and somehow nobody died

Once you go exploring I recommend building your tools in trees I found that out the hard way Rest In Peace to 6 apes

I know this comment is a year but I can relate. I was like that for the first couple days of me playing but have since found out that exploring is very rewarding. The tigers do suck tho. I had one take out my whole clan my first go around…lol

You can also intimidate the tiger as a group if it's mauling one of your clan members to scare it off. This is especially effective if you find yourself dodging and unable to get to a weapon.

That is true but water gets rid of any poison you have including ones from eating berries I've eating 6 of those things before without poison your ape gets use to it the more you eat them same with everything in the game it's basically gain immunity for it but still you might get it from time to time when you eat one

TropicalBlend001 I have noticed that at some of the settlements, clan members will sit just outside the settlement boundary, and that will attract predators. Otherwise, as long as everyone is within the boundary of the settlement, no predators spawn. I have also gone on a few long explorations, and slept overnight at an oasis, and not had any predators come either, without making it a settlement.

Best way to start is to first turn down the music to 25 or 0. I saw this on another vid. I prefer 25 as the soundtrack is great so I still like to hear it. This will allow you to hear the audio queue better. When you hear that deep bass sound when and enemy is attacking you hold your X or A or whatever key binding you have for the counterattack. Use your keyboard or analog stick and push towards the animal for an attack (If you have a weapon) or to the left, right, or behind if you just want to dodge. It works the same way. At this point, all you do is wait for the audio and visual queue(happens at the same time). You'll hear a similar click kinda noise to when you're crafting and the screen will briefly flash rainbow. When you see and hear this just release and you'll do it. If you do it slightly late, the attack will be less effective and you can drop the weapon but it's not a big deal. If you just dodge or attack without waiting for queues, you'll continually just take bleed, injury/broken bones, or venom damage from the Mambas or Centipedes. I know it's scary at first, but you gotta practice it. Like I said turn the music down first. I recommend 0 when learning so you can easily hear that queue. Once you get it down pat, turn up the volume if you want as you'll be used to it by then and won't need as much concentration. I followed this advice an honestly don't really fear any enemies. Always remember, if you can't see where the enemy is attacking from, just dodge first, then see where it is and then instigate a counterattack. Better than doing a blind attack and getting hit and losing a weapon potentially. Keep trying it this way. Next time you play, craft a spear or a rock weapon and just go out and instigate fights with things haha. You'll learn quickly and you'll most likely kill an enemy or two and pull off feats for evolution as well as being able to eat the meat and get acclimated to being an omnivore. You'll need the obsidian scraper or Basalt chopper to butcher carcasses though. I hear the scraper butchers faster. If you get sick to your stomach, just drink some water or from a coco to recover. Eventually you'll get used to it and be able to eat more before getting sick. Anyways, sorry for the long message but I go by a policy of giving a full answer, especially with confusing things. It's a difficult game but it's much less so if you master the combat! Hope this helps!

Also use WASD to aim which direction you're going. Any direction away from the predator to dodge, but towards it to counter attack. You gotta be careful though; a failed dodge usually just leaves you with an injury or bleed, but a failed counter attack guarantees that you'll either be hurt or dead.

Put sticks that aren't stripped in a pile. You can construct like a wooden barricade that'll keep any tiger out if you line it up to keep em out

My whole troop fell over a waterfall during a routine fruit trip. Most died on impact, but the survivors floated right into a tiger. The lone surviving baby had to find a random to piggy back home with lol.

I rarely use sticks, I always carry basalt or obsidian sharpened rocks. They don't break and you can chase down the tiger making it attack you again and again until you kill it.

You get attacked by the yellow tiger then after you kill it you get attacked by the white tiger. And no chopper from the start spear first so you have a chance to be able to actually chase it.

Very unlikely, but you could have been lucky.

You have to wait for the appropriate sound, then you can release the spacebar, if you have a stone, tool or weapon in hand, it will attack. If you have two objects in your hands that can be used to attack, the right hand will attack.

This game relies HIGHLY on audio queues, so definitely listen for them. Similar to when you craft a tool or strip a branch. I would practice your timing on the Green Mamba to start out and once you've got it down, it's pretty much the same for countering anything else. I'll add to that, beware what you use as a weapon against certain creatures. You can use all combinations to make discoveries, but you'll find some things will counter your counter attack and injure you if you use a blunted weapon as opposed to a branch, stick, or sharpened stick.

@@Peaceisabeast I have noticed another sound that looks like the one that occurs when it's the right time to release the button. That sound is a bit more abrupt, has a different tone and happens when I do nothing in particular. It looks like something happens or change but I can not tell what.

Making a wall from thorn bushes works best. You have to unlock the "carry objects with 2 hands" genome. The tigers, leopards, and other animals can't get through them.

although if you feel safe enough it really isnt too hard to just walk away from the settlement and walk around outside for a bit until it spawns and then you attack it, as i have never experienced a saber attack inside the settlement, not yet at least.

Fences won’t prevent the tiger from spawning inside your base, but they can keep it from escaping so you can kill it more efficiently. They also keep regular wildlife from wandering in, and I find they’re useful outside of the base for setting up temporary shelters and kill zones.

Hunting them instead of them Hunting you makes the game a lot easier. There are two per evolution leap that the game will spawn out of no where and attack you randomly. Typically one yellow one white, but occasionally the yellow one will be black. Once these are killed they won't return until you evolve. You'll know its them attacking you because they will flee beyond your senses after you strike them. Regular environment lions can be sensed before they attack you and can be followed. I almost always only travel with a single male ape and child until the two random spawning lions are dead.

well, if its a white sabertooth you will know that is it because from what i know white sabertooths can only be the ones that hunt you down (cant spawn out in the wild), ive also heard that black sabertooths can hunt you as well, but im pretty sure you can tell if its the same one or not, if it comes out of thin air then thats it.

i would imagine that if you evo before killing them, they don't keep damage, but if you don't kill them and skip a generation, i think they still retain the damage you already dealt.

You might have realized it already but items doesn't despawn. Piles will remain even after an evolution

I haven't encountered it via a spawn. But occasionally just out in the wilderness you'll have Sabertooths just out and about. Occasionally they'll be patrolling out on the Savannah or Woodlands in groups of two. They're just part of the wildlife and won't necessarily actively hunt you. But if you kill an animal, I've noticed they will try and attack, presumably to steal the kill from you so be mindful of that if you've killed a Horse or something.
