🤣🤣🤣 I know how you feel!!! One thing that I found fun was looking at our furniture and decor through the lens of Japandi - we have a few things that have that vibe. You probably do, too!
This house is I see these videos all the time, I rarely ever comment on am particularly fond of natural materials and all their designer designed my was the best decision I have ever made.
Saw that you’re a beginner RU-vidr like me, and I just want to say that your camera presence is like you’ve been doing this for ever! I love your videos and have already subscribed. I wish you the absolute best 🥰🥰
Thanks so much, Lauren! I appreciate that so much - especially from another RU-vidr like you. I had to pop over and check our your channel and found myself subscribing within the first few minutes of the first video I watched. I love your take on creating capsules with timeless pieces to build your wardrobe on. So fun. Can't wait to watch more. Thanks for your comment! I wish YOU the absolute best! 💛
Thank you so much! I feel the same way - I love learning about different design styles, even if they are not my own. It's fun to see what I can learn from other ways of approaching design. People are so creative in how they put their spaces together. I am a true lover of the design process. Thanks for joining the conversation, Andry!
thank uou so much my dear friend for sharing ....super love it Japandi modern style....God bless you more and your chanel.....I learn a lot from you...
Great info and photos of the design elements!! One suggestion for making the video more enjoyable is to leave out the background music which competed with your voice, making your voice sounds loud and pressured. Besides that, the content was wonderful. Best wishes!
Last year I was trying to explain this style and this is a great word for it! I love it. I lived in Japan for a while and teach the language and LOVE the hygge feel and look. Not to mention a massive passion for scand mid century modern! Yay!
That is so cool! Thanks so much for sharing your experience. It sounds like Japandi is perfect for you! I agree, Japandi incorporates so many things I love - neutral palette, MCM furniture, decluttered spaces, modern art, cozy textiles. What's not to love?
i like how you didnt just describe the style but that you added how to go about it in the different living spaces! i love this style! it seems like Jappandi has more colors than just scandi?
Definitely - I feel like although it still incorporates a limited palette you’ll see a lot more moody range in color within the Japandi style. Like anything, it’s always best when you put your personal stamp on it and create your home in your colors no matter the design style.
I'm so glad you enjoyed it. I'd love to do a full video on Scandinavian because there are a few different ways of approaching that style. Plus I just LOVE a good Scandi space.
We are going to try this design ! We have a lot of stress so we need to get distressed. I know I like some skandi furniture . I’m the chief decorator in the family , so my head is dizzy lol . I went from Asian , - to MCM - to Moroccan - to antiques - to MCM again - to early American - antique country style -Now Japanese zen . The jumping off point is an antique beautiful lamp that was my grandmothers from the 40’s .
Wow! I'd love to see photos if you ever want some advice. Carefully look over your things and see what existing items might work with your new design plans. You clearly love the look of antiques, so I know you'll find a way to a home that expresses your own unique style.
I LOVE Art Nouveau. Sadly, I don’t know how to incorporate Art Nouveau into an already mish mash of decor. Plus, the furniture (what little I’ve seen) tends to be pricey. Would you be willing to talk about Art Nouveau?
I’m so glad you enjoyed this video, Beverly! I tried to find every piece of information I could to define Japandi and clarify it for anyone who is trying to achieve this style in their space. I must admit, researching this had me excited to try some of these design ideas in my own space. I lived in a studio apartment for a long time and absolutely loved it. I wish you luck in designing your new home! Thanks so much for joining the conversation!
Wow, I learned so much from your video! I was going for a "japandi" aesthetic for the past few months but I had no idea what it was called. Now I understand the purpose behind it and I can get behind it 100% now. Thank you so much for explaining this to us!
I'm so glad you enjoyed this one, Elena! I'm planning to make this into a series, teaching about different design styles. You'll have to let me know if there are any other styles you'd like to learn more about. Thanks for your comment!
Thanks so much, Alyssa! I’m so glad you enjoyed this one. I would love to make a full video on cottagecore - thanks for sharing your idea! I’m thinking of making a whole series on design styles and cottagecore would be such a fun one to research. ❤️
Thanks, Jennifer! This is definitely going to be come a series and I've gotten so many suggestions for styles to explore next. Let me know if there's any you'd like to see here!
Ooh! That is such a great suggestion - and another hybrid style that a lot of people might not know about. Off to research! Thanks for the suggestion, Millie! ❤️
Visually lovely video with helpful information. I'm watching your videos, rather out of order, so I'm getting interesting snapshots of your own personal styling. That said, your hair and brow color in this video are (is?) gorgeous. I'm not sure if this is natural color for both, or the work of a skilled colorist, but W O W...very flattering on your skin tone, and you've done an excellent job of appearing "effortless" in your choice of sweater, pearl bracelet, and a tiny pop of color in your earrings and how that appears against your background. Well done. Rarely do I comment on someone's own personal style choices, as it's subjective, but I've noticed differences from video to video, and since it's a compliment (and NOT flattery), I thought I'd share it. Maybe it will help counter one or two negative comments? lol Probably not, but you never know. Keep up the great work~
I really like your video, crisp and no nonsense, packed with info. Could you just tune down your voice a wee bit. I play you at minimum volume but there are many parts where you are shouting 🤭 Sorry I hope you don't get too offended I like you and will continue to watch 🤗
Thanks for your kind words and for the feedback, Debbie. I'm always working to improve the quality of my videos. I made this video back in February, and have made significant improvements to both video and audio quality since then. I wonder if you have the same issues with my newer videos.
Hi Kim! Thanks so much - I’m so glad you enjoyed this one. Planning to make this a series so let me know if there’s anything else you’d like more information about. 😊
@@LindsayLiving Oh sweet! I'd love to see more on Mid Mod, Japandi, Scandi, color palets that are hot, beach designs, lighting, outdoor living/entertaining decor, how to pick a faucet and sink, etc. and where to find gorgeous duvet covers. I always have trouble finding ones I love. Thank you!!!
Thank you SO much, Daniel. I appreciate that so much. I think it's definitely a trend but has roots in design styles that have definitely lasted the test of time. I think we'll see elements of Japandi stick around for quite awhile. I'm interested to see how it evolves.
I felt a little jalous of the more neutral toned wooden items, since I opted for solid oak tables, which have a rich, deep colour when oiltreated. They’re beautiful - but dark! Decluttering is an ongoing project in my home - I just seem to move things from one area to another 😂 I loved this video, so informative and with lots of beautiful and inspirational pictures. Thank you. I’ve always been drawn towards a style I believe is called New England? I feel it would go well, or combine well, with my Danish style. Could you educate us on that? Kind regards from a Dane 💚
Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts. I’ve had several requests to make videos about where to source design and decor pieces in the Japandi style, so you can bet that’ll be coming up here soon. 👍🏻
very well done, only thing i would change ( but only if your'e dying to be big on here?) i would try to mellow your tone and also replicate the design you are discussing? :)
Thanks for the feedback. Check out some of my more recent videos - I've discussed tons more design styles since making this first one over a year ago. 😀 ru-vid.com
It sounds like you're into more of a hybrid style - mixing ideas from Japandi with a heavier Scandinavian or slightly Coastal bent. gather inspiration photos and look for patterns in what draws you to rooms. This will help you hone in on your design style. Check out this video for more on finding your design style: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-sgrXlj5Xl_w.html
You explain things clearly, like a well-trained teacher, but I'd like to see the photos more - bigger and for longer - and the talking head less. I also prefer shorter, more succinct videos. Less is more, after all.
Thank you so much for your kind words about my teaching style! It means a lot to me. I hear your feedback about the visuals and video length, and I'll make sure to work on improving those aspects. Your support and suggestions are greatly appreciated!
Wouldn't be the first time I've mispronounced something. I think I learned this pronunciation from Oprah, but wouldn't want to through her under the bus - she's a queen.
