Hi everyone! We are both still recovering from the flu and hope to be back to work again very soon! Carlos will prepare the log cabin patchwork technique so we can make a tutorial soon. And yes, lazy daisy in English is Mille-fleur in French, same stitch, two different names. We like to think that whatever it’s called, it makes a lovely decoration on a patchwork square! Keep in mind that English is not our main language, as we are from Norway, and we also have a very large audience of viewers outside of the USA/UK to speak to who also don’t have English as their main language, so we prefer to keep our words a little bit more “international” here on our channel 😉. We wish you a nice week and we look forward to a live stream coming soon! Arne

Thank you Arne and Carlos. Hope you both feel better very soon. Looking forward to the Log Cabin video and "Live Stream". Carlos Thank you for speaking so clearly and your pronunciation of your English is very good. I have hearing impairment, so the way you speak is very good for me. Even though Arne's voice is quieter, I love hearing you speak your Norwegian language Arne, you are so funny. Please do not change the way you both are. Love you both. Thank you :-) :)

I'm sorry to hear that you both have been ill. Please know that when I expressed my thought that the stitch was lazy daisy, it was meant as a question, definitely not criticizum. American English is my first language. I've learned a great deal from you both.

The thing that I like best about you two is the way you enjoy the process. So many publications talk about short cuts and how to do everything quickly. To me, that misses the whole point of why we create. You two share the joy of making things by hand using the beautiful materials you've gathered over the years. You inspire me - not to do exactly what you do - but to create my own work.

Modern quilting sewing machines bring “convenience” in our fast-paced world. Everything seems to move so quickly. With the touch of a button, the machine needle can zip quickly across the fabric with a perfect row of daisies. And yet, something is missing for me in that process. Thank you, Arne, for reminding me to slow down today and take time to find the joy and calmness in simply putting needle and thread to something beautiful. You both continue to bring peace to my days.

Arne, I don’t know what it is about they way you say hello, but I always love and look forward to hearing you say hello. It is a single word that sounds so happy and joyful. So, I say in return to you, hello. :) I love that black and white log cabin piece you guys have made. It’s simply gorgeous! Please, in the future, when either of you guys are doing some stitches (regardless of what kind), can you have more overhead or closeup shots, please? It’s so amazing to watch what you’re doing, whether, knitting, crocheting, or embroidery, or embellishing, or...am I forgetting something lol?

Hi there boys! I now have an Arne & Carlos workbasket!! Let's see, there's a crazy patchwork pillow in progress, a knitted pillow, the X & O hat, 2 mice in different stages of finish, a pair of socks and 2 dish towels and 2 pillow cases that I am adding touches of a pansy cross stitch band. HA...what fun, I see that after today, I will be adding embroidered accents to my crazy patchwork pillow. This has added such an element of joy to my handwork because it is very reminiscent of visiting my elderly aunt when I was young when she would eave me in peace to minutely inspect each project. I vividly remember her giving me a guided tour of her house and her describing how old she was when she started and completed each item. Just like when you do the same...this is your life's handwork.

I love spending part of my Sunday with you both ! I call that a "lazy daisy " stitch and you "eyeball" something or as you said " do it by eye " . I've always put French Knots in the middle of my flower but I'm going to use beads now after seeing how pretty they look. I also quilt and the Log Cabin is a favorite for me because it's easy and works up pretty quickly. Hand work is so restful and satisfying , it doesn't matter which craft I do it is a sense of accomplishment when I'm done. Thank you so much for your inspiration ! Oh, and kudos Arne for using metallic thread, that is not easy to work with ! Enjoy your week...

The first few stitches where you make the flower were the stitches my mother taught me to sew hems. It always looked so much neater. As always another wonderful video, no matter what you two work on it’s always educational, entertaining and fun. Working together is always much more fun, at our home I knit while my husband paints it’s a great way of exchanging ideas and most importantly doing things together. I remember when growing up my mother, aunts, cousins, and friends would get together to knit, sew, crochet and embroider, the children would be given scraps of materials and we would ( very primitive ) make dolls clothes , then we would be taught to knit. There was always a lot of laughing and fun at these gatherings, I miss those days, most of all I’m sad because children today do not want to learn those skills they are too busy with computer games and texting. Still I keep trying and always bring material, yarn and needles in case they decide to have a go.

Hi both, I was amazed to discover that your embroidery is hand stitched. I was expecting to see you put the patchwork under the foot of your lovely Bernina machine as the stitches look so even on your log cabin sample. This type of work has so many layers to it and the finished product is stunning. You must get the black and white cushion finished to add to your beautiful collection of cushions. XAngela

You can tell that you are designers because of what fabrics you use and how you put them together on the quilt blocks, AND by what designs you use to embellish. That's what makes your quilts so lovely. I try to create something as beautiful and it is not. BUT I try to use your videos as inspiration, not for comparison. I keep doing "my thing", trying to create a pleasing style that I can call my own. I do like how you keep reminding us that joy is the object all our creativity, not perfection. I knitted my first hat and it's not perfect, but I thoroughly enjoyed making it and delight in wearing it.

Your videos are little gems. They sparkle and bring joy to me. Try to take it easy whilst you recover from the flu. Only do things that are absolutely necessary, and that are restful and relaxing. I'm not going to comment on 'mille-fleur', but instead on 'by eye'. Arne seemed a little unsure about the correct phrase. I'm a native speaker of English, and would use 'doing it by eye' and also 'measuring by eye'. Arne, your use of the phrases was totally correct.

Hi there thank you for another interesting video, always something interesting happening in your cosy house, would love to sit and sew with you. Something totally different, I left some Geraniums in a pot outside and felt sorry for them and planted them in pots and they are making little leaves.... so glad, saw your lovely Geranium on the shelf and hope mine will grow so amazing, you said something about Japanese composing, could you please tell us more about that. Geraniums are outside plants all the time so now in the UK it's a new adventure and at 67 I have a good selection of house plants, it makes sense in these long dark winters. Thanks again Anita

Speaking of lining, I have a coverlet/quilt that I bought years ago. It's fallen into being a less loved color than it was when I bought it. Still nice, but never used it. I'm making my first quilt top, and plan to use it to provide both, batting, and lining. There are two 'linings,' but, hopefully nothing will show through. If it does, plan B. Thanks for continuing to show your quilting. It is inspiring. Nice to see the progress. Makes me happy.

I have made several quilts too. Log cabin, as well, in autumn colors, so it’s hanging on a wall during that season (to keep the cold from the wall away, semi old house, poorly isolated). One of my favorite quilts I made two of is a Danish Hearts Christmas quilt. The reason I’m fussy about my backing stitch is because I do the stitching, the actual quilting, to stitch the three layers (sandwich) together, so you do see the stitches on the back. I do both machine quilting and hand quilting, latter being easier, but very time consuming. Made a beautiful Christmas quilt with stars, hand quilted it, and when I washed it, it turned pink 😭 I DID wash the fabric in cold water with vinegar before using it. It’s still beautiful, and the pink has faded a little bit. Got a couple of UFO quilts to make. And so many ideas for other quilts, but one also wants to knit and crochet, and cross stitch, and, and... the days are too short! 😁 Your stitch work is amazing!

Someone told me once that really good embroidery is supposed to look as nice on the back as it does on the front. Is that true? How can it be done, I wonder. Also...when I was young I couldn't stand to embroider or sew by hand. It made me so nervous I couldn't bear it because I was so ADHD. But now I'm old and I find it relaxing. Isn't it neat how you can find joy in something later in life? Thank you so much for your wonderful vids!

Love to watch Arne stitch! Yep, the flower is a "lazy daisy" but not usually attached to the crosses, as you're doing - very clever and pretty variation. xo from Oregon again.

I really love you both, and how you do all kind of craft. I used to think that it's better to master one kind than be jack of all trades, but I really love to try all kind of crafting (and already did). Now you show me that it's okay to make all those pretty things as long as we enjoy it and makes us happy. So I think it's time for me to learn patchwork.

YES. It would be appreciated to see a tutorial on the log cabin quilt. Love your videos!

Thanks for the tutorial! Seeing it being done makes it less intimidating. Only recently I've discovered that I love crocheting, but I got into needlework through knitting your designs for Christmas baubles.

Great cushion! We say "eyeball it" , and "Zig Zag " stitch, turns into "Fly" with the extra leg thenas said, "Lazy daisy" which as a single can be one after another as a "chain" When quilters like me sew patchwork, we 'eyeball" the 1/4 inch seam deferring to the US terms for 6mm. Hugs WAH..

As always I have enjoyed spending time with you "relaxing" getting ready to order my wool for my stockings from your book I just got Norwegian knits with a twist. I am so excited. I've made 4 sweaters this winter with color work, my first ever was this fall, a baby cardigan, thank you for the inspiration and techniques. Shelly

Shelly you are so clever. Congratulations on your 4 sweaters. I have tried to do colour work so many times and just cant get it right. Mary from UK.

It is definitely a process and my current sweater is much better than the first. This winter I started knitting for me, instead of for everyone else. I have really enjoyed it, being just a little selfish. Keep trying, for me being relaxed helps when doing the color work, if I start getting frustrated I have to put it up and work on something easy for a while. Seemed to really help with the tension of the carried yarns/floats. I watch RU-vid knitting videos a lot while knitting. Thank you for commenting. Shelly

Please do share the skirt..... Both Dior and Lauren had them in their collections and I fell in love with them. I think it will be a wonderful long and warm skirt for a Canadian winter ❤️. Thanks for sharing 🙏🏻

Thank you for this wonderful podcast. I think hand-stitching is so relaxing and watching you both made me want to start another project. I would really enjoy a tutorial on the log cabin blocks. The black and white blocks with the embroidery is elegant and beautiful!
