How to Deep CLEAN Your Pop Up Camper Canvas & Vinyl (Inside & Out) in Under 10 Minutes!

This video details how to clean your pop up camper “canvas” both inside and out. This video details the distinction between both the canvas material and the vinyl material colloquially referred to as a pop up camper canvas. With the distinction made there are differences with regard to cleaning each material. Vinyl is cleaned utilizing a combination of diluted degreaser along with magic eraser sponges. Vinyl is then rejuvenated and protected utilizing a product called Protect All. This same method can also be utilized for cleaning the vinyl pop up camper windows. With regard to canvas material, if called for, a mold and mildew remover can be utilized to remove the former and later in addition to numerous other stains. However, if a mold and mildew remover is utilized on canvas, it strips the waterproofing and therefore a waterproofing agent should be utilized following usage. In contrast, if mold and mildew remover is utilized on the inside of vinyl, a waterproofing agent should not need to be utilized as vinyl is inherently waterproof.

Loved the cleaning advice. Just finished detailing our 2006 starcraft bought in fall of 2019. Just in time for pandemic camping in 2020.It shined up like a new penny! I used spray nine degreaser, starbrite mildew cleaner and Magic Boss vinyl and awning protector. I will waterproof the canvas windows in the spring. Watched many utubes and this was the best ..

I just followed your exact method for cleaning my outside vinyl (I think for the first time ever) on my 1989 Coleman Sun Valley. I only had time to do one side but WOW, what a difference. It helped me realize how dirty it was. The Protect All was a great way to finish it. Thanks for making all the great videos!

Thanks for your video and time! I had to clean mold off the entire inside/outside of my newly bought (used) Jayco. The inside was covered with mold. The rest of the Jayco is like brand new. The two tables were like brand new but both were warped so bad they are unusable. I think the previous owner must have only used their new Popup trailer a couple times and then stored it outside for a few winters. Got it at an auction for $400.00. It is complete like just off the showroom floor. So the moral of this story is to store a Popup in some kind of enclosed, dry building in the winter if you live in the PNW. Or use and service a lot of those moisture absorbent pillows. It was a major pain in the ^%$^%$& to get the mold off inside. I store it inside my barn and next winter will be the first test to see how it does in there.

Your video has been so helpful for me on my "new to me" popup camper. I started with the interior canvas that had a serious mold issue on each end . I used the Starbrite product you referenced and was amazed at the results and how easy it was. Today, I am working on the exterior vinyl. I have a feeling the vinyl had never been cleaned. Again, I used the degreaser that you mentioned and the magic eraser. Again, I was so surprised how easy it was to clean. My next step is to apply the Protectall, it's going to look as good as new when I'm done! Thank you so much for making this video, I had absolutely no idea how to start the process of cleaning the canvas and vinyl on my pop-up camper.

I literally pressure washed mine. Lol I zipped everything up. Lower pressure. I put plastic on everything in side. Worked well. Nothing soaked or ruined by water. Took 15min outside. And 10 minutes inside. This was with my fleetwood williamsburg. When dries. I sprayed it down really heavy with waterproofing spray. Took 5 large cans of military grade tent waterproofing. It's been 6 years and haven't needed to do anything but blow of dust before closing it up.

@DukeSamala I use heavy duty silicone waterproofing spray by sofsole and instant water proofing spray by Revivex. They both are excellent. Both work the same but I go for the silicone one because we camp a lot in rainy seasons and it's helps keep the frabic soft to avoid cracking

Definatley try the mold and mildew remover for the canvas. As far as the mattress and cushions, are the covers removable? If so you may be able to wash them in the washer. There are also some tricks for cleaning the foam of the cushions/mattresses themselves, but we've never done that - Google may be your best bet for that.

We bought a 2002 Rockwood Freedom, and the interior of the roof on our bunk ends has quite a bad stain from the roof vent being against it in the closed position. It appears that the previous owner has tried to clean it, and there are little "fluff balls" on the fabric, like tuffed up material. What is a good way to remove these safely? Razor? Also, the stains seem to be IN the fibers of the material. Soft fabric on the inside and vinyl on the outside. Should I try an activated Hydogen peroxide first? And do i need to use Microfibre cloths to prevent that "balling" up of the soft side? Any tips would help

I will definitely have to waterproof the canvas. I cleaned the vinyl with a decreasing product. I never though vinyl would get wet like the canvas. Any thoughts.
@ItsPoppin
@ItsPoppin 2 года назад
My initial thought is that it’s actually condensation. If you’re cooking, running hot water, showering, or even existing in your pop up and it’s sealed up tight against the rain, you’ll run into condensation. There’s a few ways to combat it. If you have an A/C that will help. Otherwise cracking a window or vent along with fans and/or water absorbers will help. The name brand is damprid but you can buy cheap ones from Dollar Tree.

Can you spray the inside of vinyl with a waterproofer? Or does the vinyl treatment work good enough. Our vinyl allows water beeds to form on the inside, and we’re having a hard time figuring out how to prevent this.
@ItsPoppin
@ItsPoppin Год назад
Is it condensation or is it rain water entering at the seams of the vinyl? Vinyl is inherently waterproof and doesn’t need waterproofing applied.
@spoton5981

@@ItsPoppin looks like condensation build up, but it’s definitely vinyl. Oh well, we’ll figure it out. Thank for the response

hi! SOS! i used “Miracle Mist” and it worked SO well on the mold and mildew, but im afraid it has left yellow water stains all throughout the inside of my pop up camper :( how do i fix this!!!! i read online a natural enzyme water stain remover might work?? im wondering if you have any solutions that you swear by so i can save myself from possibly wasting time haha- thank you!
@ItsPoppin
@ItsPoppin 3 года назад
Not sure about the natural enzyme remover as we don't have any experience with it. With that being said, in our first pop up - a 1998 jayco heritage cascade, the canvas had bad mildew and mold stains when we bought it. We used the mold and mildew remover as well, which helped alot, however, it left an almost pink colored spot behind. We didn't find anything to completely remove it and just lived with it.

What's your recommendation on in between deep cleans? Soap and water? We've done one trip so far in our new popup and notice I could just wipe a lot of the debree with a clean towel but noticed birds like to poop on our camper lol.
@ItsPoppin
@ItsPoppin 3 года назад
Woolite and water or dawn dish soap and water are good "mild" cleaning agents that are good for in-between deep cleans.

@@ItsPoppin awesome thanks! I figured that. Was going to go with the dawn soap tomorrow to clean some of that stuff off. Thanks again!

Do I water proof interior and exterior of pop up tent I have vinyl on outside
@ItsPoppin
@ItsPoppin 3 года назад
Only the canvas - not the vinyl. I would prioritize using the waterproofing spray on the exterior first. It may not hurt to hit it front the inside if you have any leftover.

Is the vinyl glossy and the canvas fabric like? Do you have a video for water proofing canvas after you had to use this starbrite cleaner?
@ItsPoppin
@ItsPoppin 2 года назад
Yes and no. We’ve had good luck with starbrite waterproofing spray. Depending on how much canvas you have, you may have to buy more or less spray. Just saturate the canvas, watch for overspray and you’ll be good to go. You may find removing your mattress is helpful to not get water proofing spray on it.
@Wendessa
@Wendessa 2 года назад
@@ItsPoppin Okay so I believe most of my inside is canvas because it’s “fuzzy” and not shiny smooth. Does that sound right? I have black spots everywhere on that canvas that I wanna use the mildew remover on like in your video- but you said then we need to waterproof it afterwards right? So I should saturate the canvas with starbrite waterproofer and then allow to dry? “Overspray” meaning accidentally getting on other stuff?
@ItsPoppin
@ItsPoppin 2 года назад
Yep, you got it.
@Wendessa
@Wendessa 2 года назад
@@ItsPoppin Great. And vinyl shouldn’t need waterproofed because it is waterproof by nature.
@Wendessa
@Wendessa 2 года назад
@@ItsPoppin Okay so my mom brought up a good point. She asked if I waterproof the canvas that is opposite to vinyl on the outside. For example- windows are not covered by vinyl on outside so they need water proofed. But what about the roof of the bed area that has vinyl on the outside? She is wondering how that could possibly dry cause it would be moisture trapped between the canvas and vinyl. Also for saturating the canvas covering the screened windows - do I saturate it from the inside out or outside in?

Isn’t the mildew remover just sodium hydrochloride? The same thing as bleach? I recently bought a gallon of “miracle mist mildew cleaner”, for $18 at Walmart. Once I started using it it smelled exactly like bleach and the ingredients said “contains sodium hydrochloride”. I think I paid for a bottle of bleach for nine times what it should’ve cost.

Protect all is a man made synthetic product. In the long run, it will dry out the vinyl. I use platasizers only. .

Hi! We tried spot cleaning the canvas windows on the bunks with the Starbrite cleaner. It did a great job removing the mildew but we can now see the sections we cleaned have a yellow tint. The canvas is normally an off white so it's quite noticeable. Wondering if you've run in to this or can recommend anything that might remove it?
@charleslebrun26

I have cleaned my pop up on the outside from the inside it add a yellow tint on it before i cleaned it once cleaned it was off white more likely its from old waterproofing that turned yellow with time i washed mine with spray nine witch degrease and remove the waterproofing and did come out great you'll need to reapply a protection for vinyl if vinyl canvas then water proof it try a small spot where you cleaned the inside first and c if it made a difference before you do the hole pop up
