Great guide mate! I'm sure it's going to be very useful to many new players. I would just add few things that I think could contribute to the video. 1. Use your hero/explorer/scout unit to scout the map. You want to look for enemy settlers trying to build a forward base to rush you. If you manage to spot them when they leave the protection of their TC and are walking towards the building location, you can switch your hero to melee attack and attack them. What this will do is snare them and they will take longer to reach the building location, which could give you some very valuable seconds to defend. 2. You want to be having a look under your enemy town center when they age up (usually about 4min 12s for most civs but less than 4min with Ottomans) so you can see what crates spawn under the enemy TC and what is your enemy doing in his base. You should check and try to confirm that you are actually being rushed! If your enemy plays as Ottomans and you prepare to defend a rush but then you see 200c and an outpost wagon appear on age up, you are most certainly not being rushed but he is fast fortressing you so you have to adapt. Instead of defending your base, try to do damage while the enemy is weak and age up yourself without over committing to Age2. 3. When defending with your town center. Try to avoid having more than 10 villagers gathered inside of it since the villagers above 10 will not provide additional damage so they will be basically useless. As much as possible, have your villagers gathering away from enemy fire. 4. This is a bit more advanced but if you confirm the rush, you can build a couple of long wall segments between your ranged units or canons and the enemy units before they arrive (you can delete the pillars so the wall only costs 10w in total). This will prevent them from getting too close so you can keep the range advantage and will help you keep your units alive if the enemy trains or ships few hussars. Sorry for the long comment. I hope it helps some new players trying to defend a rush and learning the game. Very nice pauses on the video to explain what you're doing. I think it's better this way than if the video just keeps playing and what's happening on the screen is not related to what you're talking about. Cheers! Edit: misspelling.
Yeah you literally just shift click on past the herd and then shift click on one of the animals that'll mean they automatically walk past and then double back
I’m really glad you’re hitting more of the basics! When I played this game as a 10 year old I literally just spammed musketeers and heavy canon- now that I’m reintroducing myself to this kind of RTS I’m loving the down and dirty build talks and efficiency discussions needed to compete in MP!
I played aoe3 super casually when it came out (i was like 13...) Now as an adult I've been wanting to play aoe3DE seriously, but the in-depth content is hard to find. Your video is exactly what I needed!
Thank you so much for this very straightforward video to mix in with the specific mechanics/politicians videos. There's so much stuff to process that I'm sure I've got a number of bad habits built up over the years of playing this game, and your vids are helping break me into new ground.
Great guide! I've watched most of your videos since i'm trying to get a little bit more in to multiplayer with the DE. Keep this amazing content coming!
Amazingly helpful tips, especially the one at the end to try to get out unit shipments and production at the same time. I imagine it's not that easy to find tips and tricks to talk about that you can apply generally since all civs have differences to one another. Good job, thank you and please do more! :D
I love the new channel, you popped up out of nowhere and I gotta watch all your videos. One of the things I'm most interested in DE is all the new Revolt options, some of them seem extremely significant as opposed to the one dimensional infantry rush they used to be. Hope you cover these soon! Mexico, South Africa and Canada seem particularly interesting.
I wanna thank you for doing this. Im trying to get into Aoe 3 but most of the guides and build orders date back to the 2000s and there arent build order scenarios like in aoe2 yet.
ah feels good watching someone be as good in aoe 3 as i was in my prime watching samurai revolution always made me uncomfortable because of how many mistakes he makes
Ok. Wanna counter any and every Russia rush? Spam Hussars. Thats it. Focus your workers into Gold and Food, make 1-2 stables and Spam Hussars. Thats literally it. Hussars will devour the Strelets and ignore the Blockhouse dmg. The Russian eco cant support their Musks and even them, their musks are 25% weaker in HP and Dmg, therefore, Hussars wont have a problem.
As a nice side effect, this also deals with proper earlygame in general! I'll definetely watch more of These Videos. I really like your analytical approach.
Pro tip: holding Alt key will switch off the option for "easy military drag" until you let go from the key. So you can do that instead of double clicking in the first second of the game
Even though i play aoe ii and dont play aoe iii i watch these vids because your content is so interesting to watch , hopefully someday ican play this game too
Hey, Aussie man. Great voice and thorough explanation. Would like to see some matches being casted by you. By matches I mean cricket matches of course. Haha anyway, interesting strategies and execution videos in full matches would be nice!
the biggest motivation i give myself for doing all these little things is imagining my opponent is a copy of myself so every little advantage counts. hope this helps
Great video, Could you also do a mid-game guide? I have a good early and late game but usually, I'm outplayed in the mid-game. I'm lost in the upgrades and can't arrange the priorities for the mid-game. I continue mass-produce village until the limit I got treasures I need, I focus on map control I have a decent army before upgrading them but still losing games on age 3-4
thx for the vid. I got a friend who is early rushing me every damn game... I kinda defend him every time, but while he's rushing he builds up his economy and at one point he just floods my base with troops.. Gonna try this technique this evening
Ngl I’m an old age of empires fan but haven’t played till this one and yeah kinda forgot the tactics and stuff and watching those videos made me realise how lucky I was in my last match lol about the outpost thing lol didn’t even know I did a diversion until now lol
Playing Japan, I often get rushed at 5 minutes, which is not even enough time to age up and have a single military unit. AOE 3 DE civs are so well balanced lol
Very nice work as before. Agree with the macro, herding, tp and building placement stuff. However, there are a few bits that can be important. a)The rush must be positively identified. If the rush turns out to be an ff with a cannon timing, then the investment into a defensive standing army can backfire. b) Targeting the farthest animal is safer from a safety or directional point of view. But targeting the nearest animal actually gives more mileage in my experience. c) Infantry and cavalry have a siege range of 6. If you block that range somehow, for example by placing barriers such as walls or houses, it's even harder to siege an important building, say the outpost. d) Outposts provide a 30 damage without any garrisoning. If you combine tc and outpost using a shift click and assign a control group to the combination, you can target specific units with 120 damage(135 for cavalry). For example Russian muskets and pikemen have 120 hp( one shot) and janissaries have 210 hp( 2 shots). e)The outpost can be used as a intermediate garrison point between the tc and the mine( 2 stationary objects) and can be placed accordingly.
This is such a good channel, thank you. I'm a newcomer to AOE3 thanks to DE and have been tinkering with Indians, would you recommend dropping the Agra Fort and a castle near-ish to the home base with them? Ideally near enough to another herd and/or patch of trees so that you're not losing too much map control?
You don't need all settlers for cratrs Just 5, as they gather 100 food per tick French CDBs gather 25 each, so you need 4, German wagons gather 50 per tick, so you need 2
We need more videos on these. You should make a video on each civil make a video about utilizing the most out of each civil unique abilities and starts
Hey aussie! Loving the content man. Can I make a request? I'd like to know your hotkey setup, that G hotkey tip is really useful!! Also if you would share your deck choices that'd be awesome too. Thanks!!
I particularly prefer to get the 900 food politician and use the transition wood to get lot's of torps and a market with food and wood upgrades. My first card is gold gather rate and even though i might take a beating at the beginning of the rush i've got the economy to mass produce caroleans and turn things around. The third card for Sweden comes at around the time i get my barracks up so it's not that huge a loss to not get troops on the second card.
I think it's bit easier with swedes as coin is guaranteed by torps and hence you don't have to move settlers on coin and hence there will be less on food and you may not be able to hit your batch.
This Video is useful for brits, dutch, swedes, need some suggestion about germans or ottoman which Doesn't BENEFITS by making many houses or buildings early.
How to defend yourself against waves of cavalry as ottomans, don´t tell me those worthless horsearchers they are to weak. Jani with bayonet upgrade isn´t good too. Maybe someone of you got a good hint for me :)
Cant wait to jump into DE. Hopefully my computer can handle it. Those who already tried it, is it massively different from the original? As in, can i just start an online game without reading everything, and expect that my previous experience trabsfers over?
Thanks for another awesome video| So, in terms of defending against a rush with Ports, maybe the quartermaster is the best choice? 400 wood to get some barracks and outpost up? Thank you
I think that incas have the most insane Rush. Passing with messenger Saving one shipment. In colonial age sending a military shipent and the chaski running to the enemy base. When the chaski is in the base make him shipment point and you have the fastest Rush in the game.
I usually garrison vills in my TC manually instead of the bell, to only garrison the ones in danger. Is there a way to send those automatically back to the jobs they had before afterwards? I think it's possible in AoE2
Why is the unit pathing in AOE3 so bad? Units spend more time dancing around than following orders and I'm getting sick of the super slow crawl they occasionally switch two when being moved in group.
Is there any better garrison managment hotkey without you pressing the hotkey to "accidently" kill your villager? Using default, and default is J, but the specific row button is the same as leave garrison and kill unit, making it horrible if you misclick. You are playing around this, or is there a specific hotkey to control it better without "accidents"?
How to enable the top left banners? I have seen people were able to make banners on the top left of the screen by splitting the army. Please someone help.
