@kenwoodmn3921 5 лет назад
@OSCAR and EMMY Not arguing, moving straight back is a good way to get caught. I took it as this being just one step, or one option, that he's throwing in. If you step back and circle or step back at an angle you obviously reduce your risk. Mixing in different defenses is as useful as mixing up your offense.

Short and to the point, no convos needed and that's how I like your vids man. Your technicalities are what give me the motivation to learn more cause something as simple as a step or pivot make all the difference. You can tell these are lessons learned hard and that's why i love em. Don't train to start fights, train to end em.

Nice! So as a karate guy, I use a lot more footwork then head movement. I also do some boxing but my base is karate so that’s my fundamentals. We use an inside palm block just like this parry. We use it lunging back and also sing back with the front leg. I find that if you throw the right as a part of the movement immediately after the block it’s helpful in the event your attacker rushing in with a small combo as well. Thanks for sharing, nice info here!

Another karate guy here. There is ALOT OF CROSSOVER between karate and boxing. Most karate is fought at the wrong range (kicking). Karate should be fought in close and tight like boxing. Anyway, the brother has a good page, doesn't he.

Good video nice and simple tips but very true,my defence against the jab is footwork and sidekick lol but I’m a kickboxer,but I’m also strong believer in jab from the hip as much better disguise on it and less telegraphed,and also great for protecting the body too in philly shell,
@andrewtanczyk4009

Thanks! I got weak foot work and not much rhythm either. Yet taking a step back from a jabber is very wise advice. I would usually make the mistake you mentioned earlier of trying to parry every jab. That gets you into trouble. Thanks.

Coach, whats your opinion on turning over the hook (like fighters such as GGG might do) vs not turning over the hook like in traditional boxing?
@walkbreal

The hook that tripple G uses is also a defensive hook, his elbows are turned in a position that defends him from counters, where as the so call traditional hook is supposed to be more powerful.

I think it really depends on who you are fighting and what other movements you have in your arsenal. This works well against big and aggressive rhythmic jabbers. When you get guys that are quicker than you in ranging in and out, it may be better to do something else. This is a very effective, espe silly if you are good at loading your back leg for springing back for a counter. However, I would say that against elite guys, they wont let you off so easily.

I liked the video and it's a great tip for not being tricked into blocking or parrying the jab when your opponent comes around with the hook. In the demonstration, however, at the 1:12 mark Eddie brings his back hand to block the jab in front of his lead hand. Fundamentally, you should never have the back hand going so much forward to block the jab that it actually goes in front of your lead hand. You should extend your back hand forward maybe 4 inches or so if your opponent decides to throw a hook, it's much easier for you to then react to the hook.

I wouldn't necessarily call it a safer way... If your opponent comes at you with double jabs and you end up on the ropes, as you move backwards, that's not necessarily safer... It all depends on the situation and the opponent
@shadowrealm6
@shadowrealm6 5 лет назад
Ur right it all depends on the situation. This would be ineffective against a double jab. Like in the first rd knockdown of keith vs manny. Thurman tried to step away from manny jab and manny read keiths movement well n capitalized with a 4 punch combination.

@DustyC75080
@DustyC75080 5 лет назад
One might be safer for one guy (his style/rhythm/tendencies/etc.), might not be for another guy, and it all depends on the round, rhythm/flow, etc., but Coach is showing us ^*one*^ way to react. It’s an infinite bag to pull from, he can only do so much in one vid now. Tyson bob-to-liver/bob-to-uppercut, or just hisbob/pivot/bob to power shots wld be cool to see you dissect, Coach. Why don’t we see that recipe/blueprint anywhere today?
@palmerprod
@palmerprod 5 лет назад
Don't forget the footwork on this too - make sure you step back with the back foot first and slide that front foot with you. You don't want to get caught in the air, and you want weight still loaded on the front foot for a possible counter.

I teach my boxers to catch closer to their face so that they still have time to keep their defense up, but you are right...it is still a small vulnerability. What would you say to the amateurs where the pace doesn't allow you to feel them out?

E.g., no one, and I mean not one guy today uses the beautiful switch-&-pivot style with the bob-&-weave that Tyson displayed so brilliantly in his heyday. Obvsly, no one is going to Tyson like Tyson, but just the theme, or one of those elements the way he did it cld be a theme or a staple of some of today’s pros/best. Tks Coach...

What's up Coach Anthony. 1 quick question, maybe you could answer it in another video. Orthodox fighter verses a southpaw. Does the same principal apply when fighting a southpaw, defending against the jab? Defend the jab, step back. I know you're not trying to give away too many secrets! LoL
@mattiac.8892
@mattiac.8892 5 лет назад
Not a trainer at all but based on my experience I'd say it does apply in an orthodox vs southpaw situation because you block the jab with your lead hand in that situation and so, if you reach too much, you're even more exposed to a fake and left hook or fake and overhand.
