It doesn’t have to be! I have 3A 3b hair and I love Dippity Doo Girls with Curls. It’s so inexpensive. The Gelee and the co-wash are my best friends. I also love herbal essences hairspray. Works so well and pretty much the cheapest hairspray out there.

Kelly Marie Maui moisture is inexpensive too and Cantu both sulfate and silicon free options safe for curly hair

I love my denman brush. Feels good on the scalp too. I have the 7 rows too but some folk have an amazing thickness so there are more rows. Amazon and not expensive. Will last years I think.

Leila H I was going to say the same thing! It works with a wide tooth comb if u use that motion as well. This Denman Brush thing is such a fad. AND, I’ve had curly hair my whole life and always been taught to not use a brush!!...to use a wide tooth comb!

I don’t think gender really changes tips and routines for hair care the only difference is a woman’s hair is most likely going to grow longer and faster due to hormones.

Cristina Garcia don’t throw them away, share with a fellow curly girl! I don’t think the denman works the same for everyone. I was worried it wouldn’t work for me so I held off on buying one for a while! I just got one yesterday and wow my curls are so defined! Finger cooking might be the better option for you

I have very fine, very thin, and long 2c/3a hair (about four inches above my waist). I recently experienced some health issues which were causing significant hair loss but am now healing and my hair is in the process of growing back. I am trying to grow it past my waist again for personal/cultural reasons. I didn’t know there are several different types of Denman brushes suitable for specific curl types and am glad I did my research prior to purchasing. I decided to go with the D33 brush for now. I ordered it off of Amazon and when I pulled it out of the packaging, I had to laugh. It looks like a baby’s brush and immediately I thought I must’ve messed up in buying this bitty little brush. Let me tell you - I was very wrong. This little brush can handle a whole head of hair very well. With it, I can achieve great definition, smooth curls, no hair pulling whatsoever. Had I gone with a larger brush, I’m positive the results wouldn’t be as good as I just don’t have enough hair yet to warrant buying the larger D3 nor D4. If I’d gone with the larger brushes, I’m sure I wouldn’t have much curl left in my hair if any at all upon drying my hair. The results with the D33 are awesome and my curls look amazingly full and defined once I’m done diffusing - kind of corkscrew curl-like. I might switch to the standard D3 or D4 once my hair grows out some more in a year and once it goes past my waist. I might even try the D90 in a couple of years once the volume has increased. Anywho, if this doesn’t help you, I hope it at least helps someone else. I’m a newbie and haven’t been CG nearly as long as you have so I’m sure you probably knew all of this already anyway. It might just be your hair texture. Do you put products in and diffuse upside down? Try put small rollers in your hair but only at he back
