Learn how to diagnose flow issues on The Gaggia Accademia espresso machine. Learn how to use the service tech menu of the Gaggia Accademia to find out why coffee is not being delivered. Ted from the Whole Latte Love service dept shows you how to run tests using the service tech menu to determine and potentially resolve the problem. Results of these tests can help our support team determine if your machine needs service or has a problem which can be resolved without sending the machine in for service.

Very helpful video. I was getting water in the dredge drawer using the test menu. However, neither the brew group or the front door was the issue. The initial symptom was when I would turn the coffee maker on it would go into rinse mode as normal. Then it would stop about 1/3rd they way thru w/out dispensing any water out of the front and go into a pressurizing screen. At this point, it would be stuck in an endless loop. What I found was the "boiler pin" (the white part with 3 screws holding it in, that dispenses into the brew group when in brew position) was clogged. With the spring pushed inward you should be able to blow air from the small pipe on the side thru to the larger pipe on the end. I was able to suck out grounds (no clue how they got in there) out of the small pipe. Afterward, I could blow thru it freely.

It appears that my machine is having this same issue with the initial Rinsing and Priming loop (I bypass/exit the loop by hitting ESC). Unfortunately I cannot locate the "boiler pin" mentioned. Can someone clarify where this is? Other than the infinite loop, all my flows and front strength selector are working fine with good pump pressures and water out of brew group, dredge draw, hot dispenser, etc, no problem. Machine still makes shots without any other apparent issue.
@kbutubevids
@kbutubevids 3 года назад
@@bryanboldt887 Remove the brew group and dredge drawer. At that point, you should be able to see it. There is a triangular opening that the brew group slides into. It is the white "nozzle" that the brew group rotates into. There are 3 screws holding a small cover that must be removed to get at it. I believe there are 2 screws that hold it in place. I hope that helps.
@bryanboldt887

@@kbutubevids I should have replied with an update long ago. Since all other functions work fine on my machine, except for the "pre-rinse" cycle (which I can bypass by hitting the "stop" button during its attempt), the issue with my machine is not with the white "nozzle" as you call it. I did pull that out and clean, but it otherwise tested ok and not blocked like yours was. My "pre-rinse" cycle issue is still a mystery. I tried a new CPU board but the issue remains. Oddly, it has no other issue, has great flows and pressures and can still make great coffee/shots and run every other maintenance cycle.

do you have a video on testing the grinder for the academia? How do you know when it needs to be replaced?
@Wholelattelovepage
@Wholelattelovepage 2 года назад
Hi DR, The Accademia uses a ceramic burr grinder. Ceramic burrs are almost always good for the entire life of the machine. Only reason to replace is if it has failed or you suspect the burrs were damaged by foreign object chipping them. We do have this video which shows you how to get inside the machine and have a look at the burrs if you want to inspect, clean, calibrate or replace: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-EAH_Ji2P_4Q.html

One thing I noticed while performing the steps is that my on screen read out while moving the brew unit into the home position was over 300, which the video stated was a problem. Outside the software menu, during its rinsing cycle, it stops halfway (also hear pressure build up but no water flow) and shows water circuit priming. Any idea on how to solve this? I just got this machine and I don’t have any flow psi what other then ground coffee or scale blockage is causing my machine not to work? It’s impossible to have scale build up because it’s brand new and nothing appears structurally wrong with the parts that I can access I’ve gotten no errors but anything I have ever attempted to make ends up brewing in the internal drip tray. I followed the video; everything within range. However, I CONSISTENTLY get a smaller serving size than requested. (Settings for coffee length all set to high). So, long coffee is a half-cup at best; about the same size as a regular coffee. What next? (I should mention that we've had the machine for few months and this issue started about 2-3 weeks ago.

Hi Beverly, Have you tried reprogramming coffee lenght using the press and hold method? Just press and hold one of the coffee buttons until "memo" appears in the display. Then, when you have the amount your want in your cup press again to store that amount.

When I do the pump 1 test (covered at your 4:30 mark), I get no flow. The machine still makes coffee fine. However, in the pre-brewing rinse cycle, no water comes out, and the machine gets the orange triangle error with "Water circuit primer." Then it cycles from attempting to rinse to showing this triangle. The only way I can get out of this endless loop is to manually stop the rinse cycle. Then it's all good and I can make coffee. The other weird thing is that when the machine goes into standby mode, it can successfully complete the rinse cycle before going into standby. It seems that that rinse cycle is the exact same as the rinse cycle that comes on when you turn on the machine, but in this case, the standby rinse cycle works. I'm wondering if there's an easy fix for this, and I've already done 2 decalcification cycles in a row.

So, I did this and the flow appears normal. I do get some long waits for heating that I'm not sure where it's coming from. Usually, turning off the machine and back on allows it to continue.
