Thanks for the video! The worse ones are the dummy gauges in the later NA Miatas that look like a gauge but are actually just controlled by an oil pressure switch. I'm in the process of adding an aftermarket gauge in mine.
I have a 91 NA and I'm getting no reading whatsoever. Been like that since I bought the car, but your Ohm test is a good idea to see if Im getting anything out of the send unit! Thanks!
Merry Christmas, very good video, I think my NA Miata 1990 having same symptoms, I will follow your advise and check if I can solve this issue. Thanks a lot and greetings from Chile - South America.
If you lift the car up and get underneath you can see better, but it doesnt give you much more room. Give it a shot, if your lucky the Sender will come off hand tight but probably not 😛 Get a stubby 17mm in there and take a shot!
finally finished watching this, i had been trying but i was busy at work all day, but side not, is Michelle or Micheal Rodriguez your shops matco supplier?
@@GearHeadsGarageChannel its a fleet service shop, all diesels, 2 and 3 axle tractors and trailers, everything with air brakes lol and i live in ramona too which is how i saw you that one day but i work in san marcos, i thought you did too lol
@@HoboSmeller I work on the edge of it between Esco and San Marcos lol Close enough. But thats cool man! Yes you are right she is great as far as tool reps go!
My NA 91 was showing 10 PSI at idle while warm, cleaned the contact and it’s back to normal working order. My resistance was 126 for 0 psi and 45 for 27 psi almost 30. The 30 psi is close to spec but don’t know what to make of 126 ohms resistance while off. Did you have the ignition on? Where did you get that service manual and how can I get a copy? Thanks, great vid. 👍🏽
I dont remember anymote if the ignition was on this was awhile ago 😛 as for the service manual you can buy one online or pay a fee for AllData for your car or similar. The specific program I was using is Mitchell ProDemand but I pay the monthly fee because Im in a shop lol
Very interesting. Thank you. I am considering renovating my partners 1989/90 Eunos rather than scrapping it and basic engine tests and oil pressure are the first jobs to tackle.
I have no idea, very strange but after thinking about it MAYBE I was grounding it at the head and there was more resistance there than from the block to chassis. Honestly I dont think there should be and its interesting. Either way I know the sender has an issue so maybe after getting that taken care of I can figure out what is up with the ground acting like that.
I have the same oil pressure issue with my 1990 NA Miata. Thought I'd buy a test kit and confirm faulty pressure sensor. If its the sensor, thought I'd just trash the $200 sensor and install the $20 mechanical test gauge in my dash somewhere where I can see it. What do you think?
How you get a hand and a wrench down there and connected to that bolt on the opposite side of the sender is some dark arts stuff. I have the frame of a horse jockey and I have spent 30 minutes trying to figure it out.
I got a 99 and mine has been reading good when I start and drive. When I slow down or turn it begins to drop down on L and pick up when I accelerate again.
@@baltod4978 Thank you!! and if you are curious I did do a video about 4 weeks ago(my first video back in a long time) where I explain a bunch of stuff. and Matt was in the coolant pressure test video we did with my miata 2 weeks ago!
