I had this code come up while Towing uphill on a warm day.
There are some.basic things that COULD be the problem, but usually it's your first sign of worn injectors.

I just changed the water separator filter,fass to a cat,because the fass will stop all flow...fuel and water. these new filters without the drain will not allow fuel to pass when the water membrane is full. Do you remember the underhood filter sensor for water that has a light or warning in the dash?? and has a drain? If GM had done what FASS has done with their filters they would have been sued when these 8k lb trucks quit running and people could not control . I have the under hood CAT set up and now I am replacing FASS filters with CAT Extended fuel filter, and the CAT Water Separator with a drain. They make a great system,they had a really good filtration and water separator with a drain for periodic draining between changes,mine has 10k on it and was clogged with water stopped on a trip towing a trailer. No way for FASS or CAT to know how much water or when it will get in there,but they can make damn sure we know when it's clogging up. I still consider their tech the best,just not their water separator filter without a drain. I also put new injectors in 30k ago from Injectors Direct. 290k now ... just my 2 cents...

The best system for the duramax IMO is the pump kit by Kennedy diesel.

@@JCTFIXIT No it isn't. I have a Fleece powerflo in tank pump. Lifetime warranty. Runs without it if it were to fail.

My diesel says it has low rail pressure but its running normally no messages on the cluster but keep in mind she's been tuned. I believe a retune would clear this code it happened when I tried to cold start her @ 18° Opinions would be helpful. I believe my fuel jellied up on me.and the filter needs to be changed

Change your filter. Install a lift pump if you haven't already.

Thanks for the info. Mine was going limp when trailering occasionally. Now it is going limp without trailer. Short stop, rest, and restart clears the limp for a day or two. Just to be clear, once rail pressure drops limp is engaged by ECU and even though relief of fuel line relaxes limp remains until restart?

The code is thrown at a threshold to "protect" your system. IdK what it is exactly but if you are commanding 28000psi and you can only build 95% or less of that for some preset amount of time it will trigger the code. Then you stay in limp mode until cleared. If you have ruled out all the easy stuff like new filter etc etc, it usually comes down to your injectors returning too much fuel thus causing pressure to not be able to build up because too much fuel is bypassing the injectors. New injectors is the fix. Expensive but most guys get around 125-150k miles out of a set.

Nice. My references are in terms of being out of spec. (Engines will run great being out of spec for a long time and when they start limping you, you know it's time to replace.)

Looking for a straight answer on what the KEY ON ENGINE OFF (not running) Fuel Pressure Sensor reading is supposed to be (on a real scan tool) for and LBZ and LMM when the sensor is working correctly. Is it Zero (0.0 Psi)? Or is it supposed to read something?

@@JCTFIXIT What did it say that I'm looking for? I've been a diesel and auto tech for over 40 years and own a truck dealership. Why are you assuming anything? If you don't have the answer then don't comment. Simple as that. I own 3 LBZ duramax single cabs myself and have all the scan tools I need to have with me right now while I'm out roaming the country in my 5th wheel with another enclosed trailer behind that. Over 14,000 lbs behind me back and forth over the Rocky's. All brand new Bosch fuel system within the last 8,000 miles on this one. I was trying to go through everything after getting fuel in WY after I still had 1/2 tank and it turned out the the fuel was so bad there that it sank the whole tank. I was testing everything why it wouldn't make it up the next mountian pass after leaving with the tank filled up. I ended up finding that everything was perfect on it, except the fuel. I bought a clear 12 foot section of 1/2" hose from Ace hardware and pumped it to someone for free into their reserve tank. Filled it back up at a better truck stop and was all back to normal again. The best rule of thumb is like I said... If you don't have the answer that someone is asking for, then don't comment.

I did all the cheaper fixes. Then traded in for a gasser while my truck is still running good. ☹

@@JCTFIXIT ohh. Got exact same problem, only when towing up hill in hot weather. Was thinking to add lift pump, but think it won't fix the problem. Looks like injectors for me too...
@JCTFIXIT
@JCTFIXIT 4 года назад
@@yanagrace1649 I will say this that adding a lift pump will help your next set of injectors go longer and it will also reduce the strain on your injection pump which could also be getting weak and tired.

John Kennedy knows his stuff. If you do a lift pump, I would recommend his deluxe kit. kennedydiesel.com/docs/Duramax%20LBZ%20and%20LMM%20P0087%20Low%20Fuel%20Pressure%20code.pdf

Where is the fuel pressure sensor located on a Chevy 2007 diesel 2500hd lml durmax
@JCTFIXIT
@JCTFIXIT 3 года назад
Great question. I'm not sure on that one. Especially because a 2007 duramax would be an lbz or an lmm.
