Machiavellianism scares me more than the other dark triad traits. People like this may not be directly violent, but it seems like they wouldn’t care how many people they put in the path of an oncoming train if it advanced their goals. Thanks for covering this Dr Grande
@@milani7452 They don't have a conscience. I personally believe that in the locations of the brain that is/are responsible for having empathy, caring about consequences, feelings of genuine compassion, and even right and wrong, are significantly underactive in the brains of sociopaths, aka Antisocial Personality Disorder. Prefrontal lobe, particularly. Thanks for your reply btw.
Machiavellianism is working towards a goal by any possible means. Using unethetical methods if necesary. This is different then narcism or psychopathy. A person who is Machiavellian can have empathy but only uses it if it fits his goal. This can be a dark empath. (not an offical diagnosis). But he or she is also not preoccupied with how others perceive him and getting attention. Those things are means to an end and not a goal upon itself.
You really do not understand the concept at all. Machiavellianists have impulse control, they will NOT "do anything" to reach their goals. They can calculate when it is not beneficial for them to act.
Excellent statement. As an energy worker, imo it is vitally important for the victims of these people to detach themselves energetically from these individuals as well. Cutting and dissolving energetic chords with them bcs they are highly intelligent people and no how to access energy field whether it be intentional or otherwise. Would love to be involved in Beginning studies on the energetic engagement between these people
Narcissists are relatively easier to be spotted due to their constant need for admiration and validation. They will seek attention from others, and tend to be really aggressive when they don't get it. Hence, maybe not at first sight, but it can be said that narcissists are sort of easier to be noticed, at least compared to other dark personality types. Psychopaths, on the other hand, tend to be more subtle. Thus, they can hide their true colors for a very long time. As a contrast to narcissists' fragile ego, psychopaths have big egos, which is why they don't feel the need to seek attention or admiration. However, their lack of conscience may appear at times due to their cold nature, which can should be considered a red flag, especially in relationships. Machiavellians, however, tend to be emotionally calculated unlike psychopaths who are emotional inept and narcissists who tend to have unchecked emotions. Therefore spotting a machiavellian isn't that simple, especially compared to other dark personalities. Even when they make their intentions obvious, they can be simply dismissed as pragmatic people. This is why machiavellians are the most dangerous type in my opinion, they're capable of doing anything as psychopaths abd narcissists, but they will do it much more strategically and cautiously. Regardless, people with these character traits are not to be messed with. And it's always a good idea to avoid them when someone possesses such traits.
Machiavelianism could be compared to the stereotypical medieval "villains" that are portrayed in movies. Psychopathy and Narcissism are a bit more opportunistic in their actions
Machiavellianism: the genius evil from a thriller Psychopathy: the serial killer from a terror movie Narcissism: the stereotypical popular kid who plays football and bullies the nerd
@@kristianmcclendon2622 yes. Psychopathy is inherently more gonna be the bullied kid, or the person in the background, the wierdo misfit and drifters, drug dealer at school. Psychopaths aren't what people think and 99% of the time the ones they suspect are malignant narcissists or classic pathological grandiose Narcissists. It's simply impossible to hold jobs, relationships and not get involved in constant issues due to how severe impulse control, lack of pro social emotions and stimulation needs. Machivelianism isn't a personality type, but as is stated long term strategic planning.. so can be from and with any personality type, but probably lesser so in psychopathy. 🤷 So NPD with a lot of supply can totally be your home coming queen and king types, it's so easy to maintain with a constant influx 😂
Right , Machiavellism isn’t a mental disorder , those people sincerely believe evil has to be done to achieve goal and it’s a whole philosophy that people with good mental health actually believe and l think it comes from their understanding of human nature compared to psychopaths who are mentally troubled individuals who can do evil for no real reasons or to achieve anything actually
Thank you Dr Grande , I muchly appreciate your explaining of these traits as well that you are objective , leaving out judgement . I've learned much here about myself as well human behaviours. 💖
Machiavallianism isn't the same thing as a personality disorder. For example, in the very old days, many people who were born into wealth, noble family or royal families had to learn to be very strategic and make ruthless, cutthroat decisions.
@@kelseymason2503 Thank you. He isn’t. I moved out a month ago. He’s already been offering to pay for some bills and trying to play nice. Not taking the bait. I am poor, but for the first time in 4 years, when I go to bed at night, I am able to turn off the light and sleep.
I was once called a Machiavellian type by my English teacher for arguing with him about his teaching of Orwell and Animal Farm it’s what made me obsessed with phycology trying to figure out what it is
I think then I was right about my relatives. Narcs and flying monkeys. They get too caught up in their impulses, seem to always be rushing around in a big hurry (patience of a duck) and the need for “winning” and getting attention and keeping their “flawless” image up and being seen as superior often with a lack self control. Interesting facts tho.
🤔 in a sample of over 1000 randomly sampled counseling psychologists, Gilroy, Carroll, and Murra (2002) found that 62% of respondents self-identified as depressed. Of those with depressive symptoms, 42% reported experiencing some form of suicidal ideation or behavior 🤫 DTA
This was so fascinating! I've never heard of the condition Machiavellanism before I discovered you. Kind of disturbing when you said "Goal oriented, like, towards evil goals...." Also have to add that you look very handsome, Dr. Grande! ♡♡
Machiavellianism, is really no different than any other form of philosophical school of thought . It's not inherently good nor evil. You could say it's related to capitalism. There is good practice of capitalism and bad practice of capitalism. The same is true with machiavellianism.
I know someone like this. I wish he'd be evaluated so I can confirm my suspicions. Something is off with him and its one of those 3 things, I'm sure of it.
To call Elon Musk Machiavellian or even joke about it, is an indictment of someone’s petulant childishness. He’s never asked anything from his employees that he’s been unwilling to do himself.
That's Ayanokouji Kiyotaka Character isn't it , from Classroom of Elite . Ayanokouji is very Long term Strategic planner of Situations , also he's very goal-oriented focused guy to ahieve freedom and more importantly Ayanoukouji has great control over his emotions and Impulse
Dr Grande, I was under the impression that Machiavellianism was a conscious choice by an individual to.. employ underhanded tactics in order to achieve their aims, not a mental disorder. So would it be correct to say that people are not suffering a mental illness when employing Machiavellianism but instead are just choosing to be Machiavellian as they think it’s the best way to go in a cost / benefit analysis sort of way?
They're the "long game" kinds of people seeking to do harm. They're the evil warlock kinds of people from like a disney movie. Who have waited their entire lives to fulfill a prophecy. And would stop at nothing to see it through. Doing whatever it takes, no matter who gets in their way, to make sure it gets done. Even if it means taking out any potential threats that would stand to oppose it
In other words Mac is easily disguised with his/ her masks. Be highly aware. “It’s a strategy game you are in and your a pawn easily lost for Them to win the game they were always playing.” So difficult to see the “simulation” when you bought into it, seemingly, by choice. At that point, you must KNOW to even consider the possibility and really see it if it is, indeed, you.
Is machiavellianism predominant? If no, how come the psychopathy and narcissism's lack of goal orientation and the impulse for immediate gratification does not inhibit machiavellianism?
This still doesn’t seem quite right to me. My understanding is that psychopaths also have impulse control. Their are predatory which means that their goals may or may not be perceived as evil. I’m thinking of a predator stalking prey as an example.
I know primary psychopaths they just dont feel any empathy or remorse. So a smart one stays to themselves unless bored. The secondaries are usaully in jail so you dont get to meet em ;)
Maki is scary and have strategic plans , i rather avaid them and not get on their nerves, why do they somtimes come across as ENERGETIC when in fact this type of planner is 24/7 SAD, even when laughing hysterically hide true feelings ! I find it is stuck in the east element and is a bad bully.
Macs block their feelings and emotions and use their cynical view to "boost" up the lack of Empathy if morality is disregarded if the decision benefits them assets and money. Conversations, bodylanguage, emotions, are all planned in order to get what they want. Depending what is available, and the status. Machs know Empathy, remorse, and guilt like a neurotypical. They're like Dark Empaths with their calculated approach with people being able to seem nice, polite, which they maybe for the time being but with one mindset of two things: Money, leverage. They will not care about anyones status, sexual orientation, hobbies or even groups like most hate like LGBTQ's. Machs will accept anything even Narc's if they can grab any kind of money at the end of the day.
Does anyone kinda want to be Machiavellian just because the word itself sounds cool or can we just, atleast, agree that the word Machiavellianism is pretty fun to say?
He actually showed us all when he put up the paper for the "brick" wall! He only always wanted the further dimensionism that the facade imparted! I will add the "al" here in case it is needed in that word! 🤔😇😎
I'm learning how to develop these skills bc majority of chicks love these traits. I don't care about the 10% "uNicOrN" outliers. We have to deal with the majority on a daily basis.
