The automakers did this to get around a Fed Reg requiring better fuel efficiency (at the expense of starting/stopping and reducing the life of the engine). Defaulting to ON IS NOT your issue - the fact that it cannot be permanently disabled without a significant work around is your issue.
I have the '18 Pacifica, hate ESS, put this in 2 years ago, works flawless I haven't touched the stop start button once in 2 years, Been off the whole time!!👍
The best "poor mans auto stop disabler" is disconnecting the negative cable from the smaller aux battery. An orange light for stop/start persists, but you get used to it in short order. There are no other side effects aside from that. Remote start still works. Also, this prevents the aux battery from being able to drain the main battery.
Poor people who waste fuel just get even poorer. There's general denial of the fact that oil is a finite resource, and mid-2022 fuel prices could be a sign of peak fracking. This extends to food and all the rest, not just driving. People tend to waste resources until they can't afford not to, then they blame other people, usually the government. They expect that supplies will "always" recover after each down cycle, but that's not how finite resources work in the end.
@@a.n.2923 or the rich battery investors get richer and we get poorer by having to buy 2 expensive batteries every year. Pick your poison. I'd rather pay a little more for gas, keep my car out of the shop and not have to pay $600+ for two batteries. So it's all perspective. And I wonder how we will dispose of all these failed batteries in the near future?
@@mammyack " we get poorer by having to buy 2 expensive batteries every year" - where are you getting that claim from? The purpose of START/STOP is to save FINITE OIL. People will soon learn the hard way when shale fracking peaks, then the big anti-gubmint blame-game will start (oil depletion could never be the fault of millions of wasteful citizens).
I have a 2019 Pacifica and what I did was I unplugged the hood sensor, took the sensor out of its holder and then plugged the sensor back in and I zipped tied the sensor off to the side where it wouldn’t get pushed down by the hood. Now the start/stop is “Not ready” because it thinks the hood is open. No dash lights saying the hood is open either. I took a test drive and it did not shut the engine off at all. Disables the feature even without pressing the factory “off” button. Everything else works, even the remote start still functions. I tested it personally. Hope this helps anyone else. 😃
I disabled Start/Stop by pressing, and holding, the "A" button for min. 6 seconds. It worked on my previous Ford Focus (2012) and similarly on my current Focus (2016)
@@hawmandd Hello, It definately works but unfortunately i never wrote down the exact procedure? More fool me! However, Perseverance is key here and 6 sec's is my best guess? (As i said, i didn't make a note at which point it switched off S/S?) Do try depressing the "A" button for say 2", 4", 5" etc....and you will be rewarded. I defeated S/S on my Ford Focus Zetec, the same week i bought the car (February 2020) and it has never come back on since (Now November 2021) i disabled S/S on my previous Ford Focus Titanium, in exactly the same way. i would suggest sitting in your car and timing each attempt, for future reference?
You can turn it off using FORScan for Fords and Lincolns. Otherwise, you can unplug the sensor at the negative terminal or pull the fuse for the battery management system (BMS), but this may decrease the lifespan of your battery.
Good stuff bruh. Just one tiny suggesting from me (an ex audio/video installer in vehicles), you should also tape the black plastic area of the dash unit so you don't get the scrapes on the like the one you got. Another thing is before you zip tie everything in and push everything back in and close it all up you should first test the unit to make sure it works because if there are any issues or if you have a defective unit you didn't have to pry everything back open again to undo the install. The only other thing I can say is I'm not sure if that extra piece of wire hanging off was in inline fuse but it surely looked like it. You should also check the fuse to make sure you got a good fuse in there. Its such a possibility to have to take everything back out just got the fuse that might have been overlooked. Now if it wasn't a fuse then please disregard that last part. Lol. With that said you did a great job installing this. In the beginning I was life DAMN THEY CHARGING YOU 100 BUCKS FOR A LITTLE INTERFACE TO ELIMINATE A BUTTON??? But when I saw the actual product you can tell they spent a lot of time on quality. Man you just can't beat that Made In The USA stuff I swear it. Just perfect craftsmanship on the product. Even the cover was quality. Scs yeah it may have one cost then less than 15 bucks to make that thing and now they asking 100 bucks but if you think about the engineering they had to do in order to make that plus the time of producing so the videos for so the different car models it makes total sense. I would rather pay 100 bucks for a quality Made In The USA product or this than to get a cheap 25 Dollar knockoff from China or Taiwan that might or might not work properly.
Well, I wasn't just pretending not to know what I was doing. I really don't know what I'm doing. I actually have no idea if it was a fuse or not. I suppose it kind of makes sense. But I can say, so far, it has been working flawlessly! It's doing exactly what they said they would and there have been no problems so far. But thank you for all of the good advice.
@@VantasticPacifica I didn't for the first few of your videos, but then I saw someone (Your sister? or SIL?) comment on the bloopers, so I went back and watched them, and now I always watch until the end. ...And to "pay it forward" I thought I'd comment on them too.
If your vehicle has a factory trailer electrical connector, purchase a trailer connector tester and plug it into the trailer connector and leave it plugged in. The vehicle thinks a trailer is connected and disables the start/stop feature.
Yeah, that might be cheaper too. But it wouldn't be an option for me. My car performs less efficiently if it thinks it's pulling a trailer. It'll prioritize torque and low end horse power over fuel efficacy. But good suggestion, though.
can you help pls my range rover 2017 its not starting, was working fine i forgot my key fob for 6h on the seat after i found it tried to start it it wouldn’t start, can it it be starter motor or any clue pls thank you
@@VantasticPacifica i put a new battery last night left it, went today started first time off the car started again, tried third time after it was running for 5min will not start, ? any idea can it be starter or electrical problem
This function is needed to meet the epa ave milage requirement set for each year. Soon it will be 40 mpg and we will be driving 1100 cc cars with turbo. Then it is only hybrids and e cars.
I used to have a 17' Chevy Cruze with the 1.6 liter turbo diesel that had the dreaded Autostop. It was already an incredibly fuel efficient vehicle and it really did not need the Autostop feature at all. It did not have a button on the dash to disable it and the only way you could was to put the transmission in the "L" (lowrange), which is not wise to drive around in the whole time. Tried pulling the fuse for it but it also effected the transmission range sensor and the all the letters on the shift selector were flashing. I got so aggravated with the Autostop that I traded it in for something else. Even the dealer refused to hook up their laptop and disable the Autostop. I will never own another vehicle with it again
@@VantasticPacifica oh I did escape it tho. I traded it in for a 2007 Cummins truck that will never have that nonsense 😄 and has none of the modern emissions equipment as well
Nah, it's because the first idea is not great. Some people said it might not be good for the car. Maybe that's an acceptable risk for some but if you have a hundred dollars, I think this is a far better solution.
hi, i'm in the uk and just watched both of your videos on this, my experiance is with the VW Polo and if you don't activate it it does not come on don't think it has the button, have driven fords which do and have got in the habit of pressing the button so it is off.
It would be really nice if it didn't come on unless you activate it. Unfortunately it always defaults to on every time you start the car. But that's basically what this device does. It allows the car to remember your last setting and it just keeps it there. So you can turn it off and it stays off or you can turn it on and it stays on. I just want the choice.
Maybe we need to add a timer circuit that would shut the engine down IF you have been stopped for 5 or 10 seconds ( or whatever time you want), so coming up to a stop sign would not shut your engine down (unless you are stopped for that period of time).
I try that on my 2024 toyota rav4 xle to unplug and I got alarm on dash and bought on amazon auto stop and bought it was working for a while and now not working can you help me what to do
I'm not sure if I can help. I have no idea what the problem is. But the product I reviewed in this video is vehicle specific. First check with the manufacturer to see if this product is right for your vehicle.
Hey - me again. Just watched your update. No way could I even figure that one out - lol. I do have a question. How are you watching the video on your media screen??
You're the first to ask that!😀 I'm afraid I accomplished it through editing. In real life, there was nothing on the screen. The good news is there's actually a way to do it in real life using a Google Chrome Cast and some wifi. If you think that's something people want, maybe I'll make a video about it.
@@VantasticPacifica Nothing gets by me. lol I figured you edited that image onto your screen, but was checking just in case there was another feature I had yet to figure out on my Pacifica! lol
Hi, maybe you can also watch the video I made about the start-stop function! This is a video of me using Phoenix Elite, another Topdon product, to turn off the start-stop function for the 2020 Benz C200: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-UP5jdeLVJdA.html , if you are interested, you can click in and take a look. you are helpful. Welcome to like and follow me! Thanks!
I got my eliminator after watching this video and it works great i love it! Its the best $100 i should never have had to spend. lol But am i crazy or do you have a video playing on your screen? If so how???? My Pacifica does not have the dual rear screens so i dont know if that is a most or not....
"the best $100 i should never have had to spend" ...I like that! I'm glad it worked out for you. Did you have any trouble installing it? About the video on the screen. Sadly no, that's not a feature of the car. That was made possible through the magic of editing! 😁
@VantasticPacifica the editing looks great lol.... as for the install it was super simple and honestly went faster than I expected. Thank you very I have had my 22 pacifia limited l fleet edition for about 3 weeks now. It has 67k miles on it and seems to be in great working order.
Awesome video! you are expert! I have a pacifica similar to you. I am planning buy a lithium battery to connect to the entertainment system of the car so I can enjoy the music while car is not running without worrying car battery . Is it possible? and how to connect? Help me!
I'm not sure I've heard of anyone trying to do that. You can install a second battery using a battery isolator but that's usually done so you can run plug-in devises like a laptop, tv, lights, etc. It won't help you run the car accessories longer. But it seems like there should be some way to do it. Keep researching. Good luck!
Have you noticed any battery draining issues from the aux battery since this install? Pacifica is notorious it seems for the start stop issue draining batteries. Wonder if keeping it permanently off like this has preserved your battery life. Thanks in advance!
Well, at exactly 36,000 miles, the backup camera stop working and it was no longer under warranty so that was an expensive fix. Some kind of module or something went out. At around 60,000 miles I bought 4 new tires and at 100,000 miles I had new rear shocks installed. Other than that, just a bunch of oil changes and wiper changes but nothing out of the ordinary. Of course, this is just my experience. I've heard stories from people who are not happy at all. But I also hear from people who love the car and are quite happy with it. Hope that helps.
I used to do this level of work on my old Lexus to enable use of the Nav system while in motion but, for auto stop, I'll just disable it when I start the car and live with it for now. I'm too chicken to be playing around with the innards of my current vehicle.
@@VantasticPacifica I'm no electronics engineer but can a on off switch be put in front of or behind the button that controls auto stopstart. Basically cutting the electricity in that circuit?
I have a TC Pacifica 2018. I hate stop start so I put my car in park everytime I hit a red light. BUT once the AUX battery runs down my start stop is disabled for free. Summer AZ heat is deadly to batteries.
In my Cherokee, when it shuts off, you can let off the brake long enough to restart, and press right back down and it will just idle. No big deal. For that matter pressing the button isn't such a burden that I need to start modding my brand new car.
I had a loaner F150 for awhile and when I didn’t realize it was a feature I thought the truck konked out until I let up on the brakes. Even then I’d never heard of anything like this so I was reluctant to drive it. Once I learned what it was I was pissed. I tried to disable it but it did the same thing. Hopefully they’re designing for all brands so people won’t have to deal with it. Since I use the left foot for the brakes this is even more aggravating than just using the right. No, I don’t ride the brakes. My foot doesn’t touch the pedal before I press the accelerator…Unless I choose to.
You never will. Way back in the early days of fuel injection they ran a whole series of tests trying to prove stopping the engine would save fuel and prove the opposite instead. So this is nothing more than an engineer designing something to keep their job that is worthless. 😂
I’m new 23 Tucson I unplugged the connector at the battery. The ISG shows a malfunction for the ISG and is off. Unfortunately it also turns the Check Engine lite on which may indicate more than ISG has been disabled. I think I’ll plug it back in.
Brother is good for my car too? my car doesn't have the circled A buton at all,not all cara have it. I have a Chevy Equinox 2020,please let me know thanks
A friend of mine also just bought a 2020 Chevy Equinox and I couldn't find the off button in his car either. I don't know if Auto Stop Eliminator makes a device for a car that doesn't have that button but you can always check their website and email them with questions.
i got 2021 Tuturing l after i traded in 2019, i found some issues , so i want to upgrade the os from the dashboard screnn, but tried many time faild, anything to help me?
My startup pattern is to start the truck, hit the button, and put in gear. On my highlander, the button is on the center console and falls into an easy pattern.
Somehow I disabled my start stop so that it never works again from jiggery pokeying the buttons inside the car. I just dont know how I did it though! - no warning lites either!
Johndennis6253 said "Thanks for the info! That tiny delay has almost killed my family several times! Our 2019 Volkswagon Tiguan was our first vehicle with this start-stop system. I discovered this death trap while trying to accelerate onto busy traffic lanes when seconds counted. My vehicle would bog down on me and basically stop and thrust forward, I had some close calls! My wife pulled up to the garage door with her foot on the brake and when she took her foot off the car lunged forward into the door. It took me a bit to figure out what was going on so I have been shutting the star-stop system for a while now with no other problems, it's just remembering to do it when I start the car. I wonder how many accidents this system has caused!"
That's a tough one. Have you searched all of the car's settings? Other than that, I'm not sure how to disable that. If you think the system is too sensitive, maybe it's not functioning properly and you can take it to the dealership.
Well, I don't know exactly what that wire is for. While I've noticed unplugging it will deactivate the auto start system, I don't think that is specifically what that wire is for. This means there could be unwanted side effects to doing this.

I feel you on that. That's the way I was doing it for a while but a lot of people told me it could have negative impact on other electrical systems. And it is true my backup camera mysteriously stopped working. There's no evidence that has anything to do with disconnecting the start-stop system but it cost $800 to fix so I definitely am not going to take any chances.
You should believe them when they recommend using PLASTIC pry tools.A complete set to take any panel off at Harbor Freight is about 10 bucks. I helped a friend install the same device in his 2022 Ford F150 Lariat. It included having to take the same dash parts off and his console apart.
Imagine if shoe companies started making shoes that came with a built-in pebble. Sure, its easy to remove it but every time you do, it returns the next time you put on your shoe. Of course, you can continue removing it everyday but wouldn't you rather the shoe company not put the Pebble in there in the first place?🙂
The company advertises that it won't effect your warranty. Probably because it doesn't technically alter your car. ...Like if you installed a custom sound system...
It doesn't stay stopped. As soon as you restart your car it defaults back to on and you have to hit the button every time. And I just heard from another viewer who said his button is hidden in the touch screen so he has to navigate to it every time. More and more cars are coming out without the button at all. People who don't want this system need a way to fight back.
@@VantasticPacifica I understand I hate the auto stop on modern cars. but I don't understand what the big deal is with just pushing the auto stop button to over ride it. What does it take but a second of your time.
@@Smitty21 Sure, I get what you're saying. I think what makes it a big deal is somewhat psychological. Imagine if your new pair of shoes that came with a shiny thumbtack placed inside it. Sure, you can remove the thumbtack before putting your foot in the shoe but you have to do this every time you put your shoes on. It's no big deal to remove the thumbtack but wouldn't it be nice if the shoe company didn't put it in there in the first place?

Dead battery after flight away. Got a boost and started drive home from airport. Five minutes later stopped at a light and the car shut off! I have a) new battery, b) boost Lion battery, c) autostop eliminator. Fool me once …
The fuse will often have multiple systems running through it. So if you pull one fuse your horn or radio or seat warmers or something like that will also stop working.😥 Great question!
I can just see this gizmo eventually voiding somebody's warranty. I don't see what is wrong with just getting yourself into the habit of hitting the button when you start the engine. Eventually you will find yourself doing it subconsciously.
Fair enough. I understand it doesn't bother everyone as much. Some people aren't bothered at all. And then there are people like me who would do anything to make it stop. (or not stop, depending on how you look at it. lol.)
Dang, I think buying this dash module & install it is a PAIN IN THE BACKSIDE. I think buying the module to insert into the trailer doohickey would be far less "pain in the ....".
Can't argue that. It was a pain. And it might not be the cheapest solution. But it is the safest and most legal and won't effect any of your car's other systems. But I get it, it's not for everyone.😁
"It doesn't change your car." Yes it does. If you unplug something and then interrupt that with another thing, that's changing the car. Also, I don't see how merely unplugging that would void the warranty, since you could always replug it when you go in for warranty service. Besides, installing this new device requires an unplug and a replug anyway.
By "change the car" I mean to say it won't disable any of the normal operations of the vehicle like what happens when you unplug a wire, tape down a sensor or pull a fuse. Instead, this devise adds the ability for your car to remember how you set your on/off switch so you don't have to push the button every time you start the car. Otherwise, nothing on the car has been deactivated or "changed". As far as voiding the warranty... I don't see it either but somebody mentioned it in the comments of the other video and I just wanted to acknowledge it.
The van has a remote start feature, so you can start the motor without even being inside the vehicle, but once your inside driving, have the van use a program to shut off at a stop sign? DUMB!
