Total waste. Simply pull 3rd black plug of three under steering wheel column. Permanently disabled. If you want to tow plug it back in. Its that simple. F150
Retired automotive engineer here. Yes, auto manufacturers DO put in features that the MAJORITY of buyers HATE. NONE of these are mandated by the government. Don't believe a car salesman, they are TRAINED to LIE. 1) Forced Lighting a.k.a. Daytime Running Lights that cannot be turned off. There are MANY situations where you want to turn off all vehicle lights. There are over 400 Movie Drive-Ins in America today, or you might be waiting outside for someone at night and don't want to shine your lights in someone's windows. About 80 Million TONS of greenhouse gas are pumped into the atmosphere annually so people can drive around with lights on while the sun is shining brightly, (an exception is Toyota, 17% of their customers buy them because the lights can always be turned off.) On two occasions, General Motors petitioned the government to make daytime running lights mandatory. On both occasions, the U.S. Department Of Transportation denied the request citing there was NO evidence that driving around with your lights on in the daytime improved safety. 2) Engine Stop Start technology, this technology was developed for the SOLE purpose of improving the EPA, MPG number. In the real world it does nothing to save fuel, but it DOES wear out your engine faster. Nothing is harder on a car engine than when you start it. General Motors and some other cars, do not have the ability to turn this "feature" off. Overrides ARE available on the Internet to eliminate this dangerous feature. 3) Dangerous Navigation Systems that do not allow the PASSENGER to input an address while the vehicle is moving. Because of this common and dangerous feature, people are forced to do additional driving and maneuvering to get the car in Park and then back onto the road. Others, will use their iPhones to enter an address. The car computer knows if there is someone in the passenger seat. If there is a passenger in the a car, the navigation system should fully function. Most people hate “Nanny Cars”. There are hacks and modifications to overcome these defects. In all three of my vehicles, these evil features have been permanently eliminated.
Great info!! I have a Malibu & hate the stop/start feature. What are your thoughts on the hack of putting the car in L gear & pressing the + to the highest gear to disable the auto start/stop?
It is possible to modify daytime running lights. Police cars are modified. It's a bit of a job. The dealer told me to not mess with the auto stop/start feature because it can affect warranty, and where I am located it is illegal to modify it. I do my best to remember to press the button to turn it off manually. Where my sister lives in another part of Canada it is not illegal to disable this annoying feature. In the menu system of her vehicle it can be turned off totally. In my vehicle I can see the entry prompt to disable it, but setting it to OFF does not disable it! The setting is not effective in my SUV.
I have it too and I hate it, I have a 2018 Mazda sports. Too hot in Australia to have the air cond off at every stop sign and red light....or roadworks 🤬
This function is potentially dangerous. If someone comes up behind you fast or you need to make an emergency quick start for some reason you have a delay which could cost you your car or even your life. Bad idea. That said, the more likely issue is the constant wear and tear on the engine and its components and the need for more maintenance over time.
I had to pull the center stack from my dash on my Chrysler Pacifica. I purchased a cheap set of dash clip tools on Amazon, and it took about 15 minutes to install. It was very easy, and now I couldn't be happier with it. It works exactly as described.
Here in, get-fined-for-everything-to-make-revenue Australia, if you get caught using this, it would no different to disabling any other emission system. Here in Oz, you'll be fined within an inch of your life.
All you have to do is disconnect the plug on the ground post of the battery and it only takes 2 seconds and no tools. First thing I do in every rental car I get into. On another note, you are bound to be frustrated with the lane change features, the assisted cruise control, push button start, and dial gear selector. I will absolutely refuse to spend my money on anything with these features. The US manufacturers are idiots if they don't see the marketability of the "DELETE" option.
Every time this happens you got to think that the oil drains all back into the oil pan - especially after 15-20 seconds or longer -This issue is magnified with the thin weight oils that most manufacturers use now. . There's no way getting around the fact that years and years of city driving will put un-necessary wear on the engine parts as a result.
@@whiskeyriver8578 so the cam...the cylinder..the fuel pump...all that is also "variable"...don't listen to these lies they're selling with our cars...metal wears, no ifs and buts about it.
@@OMNITEK you are so correct on this. The lifespan of the auto stop engine will definitely be less than if it didn’t shut off at every stoplight. This is beyond an annoying feature. I’d be ok with it if it defaulted off.
I don't know about Fords but on the GM trucks, the autostop feature is disabled anytime the A/C is on and the temp is set below current temp. A/C system needs the engine to operate so the feature is disabled. Good for summer but it doesn't work that way with the heater.
i hope it doesn't break your AC like it did on mine...not even joking, a Mercedes engineer told me the reason my AC compressor went out was the start/stop garbage.
On my ranger just go under the hood and on ground battery cable there is a small plug. Unplug it your done no more start stop. Plug back in it will work again.
The 2017 Cadillac xt5 doesn’t even give you an option button to shut the auto stop down. Don’t know what your ECM auto stop cost but Amazon got one for $$13 you just plug into the harness by the fan that works great and keeps your ecm open.
This feature is dangerous and should be banned,I know of two ppl who have been involved in terrible crashes when they go to shoot the gap taking a left turn and that hesitation has caused them to get Tboned
The starters on vehicles are electric yes but you must have a mechanical connection to the crankshaft to actually initiate the rotation of the components in the engine itself. The starter has a small gear that's driven by an electric motor. When you initiate the start sequence, the fuel pump turns on and primes the system, ignition coils are energized, the starter receives power and pushes the small gear forward to engage with either your flywheel or flex plate (manual or automatic transmission) then begins rotating the entire rotating assembly of the engine ( crankshaft, connecting rods, pistons, camshaft(s) etc). The engine is rotating, the fuel starts flowing into the combustion chamber, spark is initiated and the engine co.es to life. Diesels are relatively similar minus the spark seeing as they work off of combustion solely on compression and heat. Point is yes the starter is electrically driven but always mechanically engaging.
The starter is a mechanical piece and it does have to engage and disengage every time to start the engine. There’s no other way to do this. If I’m wrong about this , please explain to me how the engine starts without being physically turned or spun over by an outside source. I would love to know the answer .
If this was the case there would have to be a mechanical outsidepart turning the starter... then youd need another one to turn the one turning the starter... and so on. A starters gear it electronically spun so i think its safe to say we can electronically turn over an engine by now.
Umm… not sure about that. A starter works when a button is pushed or a key is turned sending voltage to a coil which energizes and does two things: slide a yoke rearward which pivots and pushes a gear to engage the engine ring gear and close contacts which send battery voltage to the starter motor windings which cause the motor armature to spin. This armature is attached to the gear now engaging the motors ring gear causing the motor to spin and, hopefully, start the engine. The stop/start feature replaces the human interaction on the start and independently bypasses button/key switch when the brake is released.
@@donaldknapik2706 My point still remains the same regardless of your very elaborate descriptive drawn out process. It doesn’t matter if I’m turning the key or the computer is making it happen , the starter is still a mechanical piece and all of the extra starting is going to wear things out prematurely. I don’t shut my vehicle off every time I stop at a stop light or stop sign , do you ?
Wait a minute oh, you purchased a fancy device that could possibly drain your battery or something all I did was disconnect one connector and it permanently disabled the feature in my 2018 Chevy Equinox I do have to deal with a beep when I lock the car but that's it I've been autostop free since 2018 never waste money on stupid devices when there's free ways to do things wow
i read someplace that if you are pulling a trailer the auto stop start is disabled so i read some guy has made a plug in to your rear wiring harness where a trailer would be attached to and it simulates a trailer and the thing does not work
Nice, I guess if you were New York or LA I could see the issues you might sit at a light for 2 or 3 cycles during heavy traffic, but this is going to wear out your vehicle way faster, since we know when most engine wear occurs. Long term you pollute more the more new vehicles you have to buy.
Auto Stop/Start is hard on the engine and the starter. It produces more engine wear because during the stop time the oil pressure is at zero. There is more wear on the starter and Bendix gear. After warranty the customers are paying the cost from the extended wear. I always turn it off as soon as I start my truck. There are some adapters that can be bought that plug in to the trailer connector that will disable this annoying feature. When trailer lights are connected the auto stop/start is supposed to be disabled. The dealer told me not to connect anything to the OBD connector or modify the vehicle. This can affect warranty. I hate this feature! In some locations the dealer will deprogram this feature if you sign a waver to not hold the dealer responsible. Where I am located it is illegal to modify this annoying feature!
There might be a connector on the positive battery terminal that feeds the auto start stop. Just disconnect it and it’s done. Kudos to the guy on RU-vid that did a video on it. He had a fusion.
On my van, if you disconnect the wire on the battery, you get a auto stop warning light on the dash, because the Auto stop is disabled. With the auto stop eliminator, it just remembers the switch position and doesn't cause the warning light to be on. On my friends Subaru, when you turn off the auto stop, you get a light on the dash telling you it's off, so the auto stop eliminator doesn't change that. It's vehicle dependent on what happens on the dash. With the Subaru, you could probably disconnect it at the battery and just see the same thing as if you turned the switch off.
You still have an auxiliary battery to maintain ( replace ) when it goes bad. This plug-in device is only half of the job, reroute the positive cable to the auxiliary battery, remove the ground cable , and pull the fuse. Then the plug-in device won't be needed.
Common sense says stopping the oil flow on a 1500+ degree turbo charger is a horrible idea and will negate any fuel savings that the start stop feature saves. Politicians don't care.
this "feature" is the worst thing car manufacturers have ever come up with, recently my AC compressor broke on my Mercedes..and guess what the reason was....start/stop feature (diagnosed by a Mercedes engineer himself)...enjoying my $1500 repair so i can "save" the planet...pure BS Lies....still trying to find a way to disable that garbage.
Every time your engine stops oil drains from your valve train and has to be re-oiled when your engine starts so your engine does ware more. The result is the infamous engine tick.
Anyone know what might happen if there were a warranty concern and the dealer found this device plugged into your OBDII port? Especially on a leased or rented vehicle.
Question, please: The device must remain in the OBDII port, correct? It does not re-program the engine's auto ON/OFF feature, right? I ask, because my insurance discounted rate requires their device in the OBDII connector.
Yes, it must be kept in place to work. It basically remembers the switch position. If the switch is off when you shut off the ignition, it will remain off when you start it again. If the switch is on, same thing. It just keeps the setting in memory.
I hate this terrible feature too. Maybe it's a little less polluting in terms of exhaust gas but it's bad for the battery, bad for the starter and bad for the engine. These components use prematurely ($$$$) and the manufacturing of these parts is worse for the environment than what you save in term of greenhouse effect gases. I always disable it and it has become some automatism. I think that eventually, the legislators will realize that this feature does no good to reduce pollution but when you take all on account, this harms more than it helps. And it will be forsaken or at least will remain disabled when a driver chooses to. On my 2021 Subaru, the start/stop is automatically disabled when the outside temperature is 4 celsius or less. One more proof that it is bad for the battery.
On a Nissan Frontier, stick a small piece of a small wire strap into the bottom of the switch, turning it on. Now every time you start the engine, the A.S.S system is disabled. Or you can pull the switch and jump over two connectors, the signal wire to the computer and ground and again, everytime you start it will be off. So, give that a try first. but it works on my 2023 Nissan Frontier and is turned off for good. And many other vehicles work the same way and it will save a lot of money not having to purchase an expensive device.
Unplug the Module under the steering wheel. It will only deactivate auto start/ stop and your trailer brakes. It’s free, no tools needed and well that’s it. No time wasted shopping or buying online!! Just press down on the small plug located by your left shin under the steering wheel and pull it out. I did mine about 2 years ago and it has never caused me any trouble nor caused any other electrical Issues other than my trailer brake system not working . For me, it’s a win!!!
No.... I'm not plugging any chinese crap into my odb port.... I've had cheap readers plug in any screw crap up. Just plug in an extra brake light into your hitch and it automatically kills the start stop.
Hey, I don’t have it because, although I want a new F150, I refuse to buy one with this crap on it. I am just annoyed by the ignorant fools who buy these things at a stop light when they start up after being shut down. Stop buying this crap and they will stop making it. Is there anyone who likes start/stop? Old school and loving it!
Auto start and stop is the most irritating feature ever invented next to Ford Flex Sync by Microsoft. Who ever decided to permanently put this in a car should be locked in a room with all Nickelback songs played on repeat. For 1 week.
Put truck in tow or sport mode when driving in an area with allot of short lights, problem solved. Long lights auto stop start does its job (unless it is really hot out, or really cold out !!!)
I was annoyed by this on my 2018 Equinox and I disconnected the hood wire and it worked, however, the Check Engine light did come on (after a while) and it bothered me. I bought a “jumper” wire on Amazon for $14.92 and proceeded to install it. But first, I wanted to make the Check Engine light go out. I hooked-up my OBDII code reader (hoping to clear the codes) but it must be outdated for this car bc it didn’t work right. I then tried the old method for getting the ECM to reset itself to factory specs by disconnecting the NEG battery terminal for 10-minutes. At the same time, I reconnected the original wiring (without the jumper) hooked the NEG terminal up and started the car. The Check Engine light was OUT. I was going to get it back to normal (shutting off at stops) THEN install the jumper cable to eliminate that function and still prevent the Check Engine light from coming on. I set about test driving the car in a manner I’ve read for allowing the ECM to reset itself (but here’s what I did wrong) When I put the car in gear, I dropped it into L (low) out of force-of-habit and clicked the + button 5 times to put the car in LOW 6. (this is the fix I was using at first) I pulled out and immediately realized I had wanted to start out in D (drive) so before it shifted, I pushed the gear stick up to D. Guess what? The car doesn’t shut off at stops AND the hood wire is connected and there’s no jumper in the line. I decided to run the car for a while to see if it begins to shut off again.
So some people have LoJack plugged into that little plug. What you can do is buy a trailer hitch adapter that will also stop it.If There's a plug in the trailer hitch terminal.
I like the idea but does it effect the warranty? You would also have to pull it out when you run it through emissions testing for tab renewal (in areas that require it) and are there any known computer issues?
No problem, the switch on the dash will turn the feature right back on so the dealer (warranty) won't know anything unless they disassemble the dash and look for it.
Great review. A ridiculous push from federal/ EPA pollution changes to force people to have another distraction. Women do not like the auto stop and start feature, and it can be dangerous...i.e. If you are inching into a parking space and then all of a sudden a surge of gas and torque from the engine turning on. Question: are you still liking the device? It still works fully without any glitches, and hopefully no electrical shorts or lights going out in your truck due to the device?
Really hesitant myself to get one of these because the company, their own youtube channel, has disabled and removed comments...so what complaints are they hiding? Not to mention only 36 reviews on their site ALL 5 stars? Not a single complaint or 4 star review? This product seems scammy af and potentially worse for your vehicle than the pain of manually turning it off each drive
It's not a federally mandated system. Car manufacturers use the system to inflate their EPA mileage figures. On that note, I have the Auto stop eliminator on my 2018 Chrysler Pacifica. I absolutely love it! It works exactly as described, and not only do I have one, but my brother purchased one before he even took delivery of his new Ford. He's happy with it. A friend with a Subaru Crosstrek liked the idea and purchased one that I installed for him. He's very happy with the result as well. If it's something you think you want, I would say do it. Mine has been in my vehicle for over a year.

If you are parking, your steering wheel and brake pedal inputs are telling that to the car, it doesn't stupidly shut off while parking. It doesn't shut off when reversing. It only shuts off when all of these things are true: - The battery has enough charge - The car's not too hot - The steering wheel is relatively straight and not moving (maybe you're stopped for a turn, it gets that, too) - The brake pedal is held pressed past the biting point OR parking pawl (P gear) is set As soon as you even breathe on your steering wheel or let go of brake, it turns on and starts creeping. In manual cars, as soon as you press the clutch in to put it in gear, it turns on as well.
Except on my Chrysler Pacifica doing that will cause the auto stop warning light to be lit up on the dash. With the auto stop eliminator the warning light stays off.
Or he could have read the owner's manual and known that when it thinks a trailer is hooked up to it it automatically disables the engine start stop so he could have gone to Walmart and bought a $25 trailer light test plug and that would have done the job too it would have also added extra lights visible on the bumper for tail lights bright lights and turn signals and probably would have cost him less than this device.
It's NOT a government mandate. It's used by auto manufacturers to pump up their mileage figures, nothing else. They will TELL you it saves fuel and pollutes less, but the real reason is just to make the gas mileage figures look better.
