In this video we will service the gearbox from my G&G ARP9. This replica has been used in rain, snow and all weather's for thousands of bb's. Unopened for 3-4 years let's take a look how it's held up together.
If you need help getting to the gearbox I did an AR based take down video which you can find here:
• How to remove a V2 gea...
If you need help with barrel cleaning you can find that video here:
• Airsoft AEG inner barr...
I hope you enjoy this video. If you want more content from me then check out Rock Bottom Airsoft on Facebook and Instagram.
Thanks for watching

As I watched you taking the screws out I wondered if you would flip it. It's something G&G do, screws in from the 'wrong' side compared to just about every other manufacturer. Internals have held up pretty well considering, a bit of wear to be expected

Hahaha, yes it did catch me out a bit that. Its one of those situations where I immediately thought flip it as I was doing it but to busy videoing it. I thought I would leave it in because it would easily catch people out. The internals have done very well, like you say considering the use the wear is pretty good.

Hopefully it will run well for a little while and then I have plans for it.

I recently worked on a friend's ARP9 coincidentally like 2 weeks ago and that same thing happened to me that I opened it from the underside... Felt like an idiot, but it comes to practice and repetition that we open GB from the side the screws are on.

Definitely agree. I'm that used to it it's kind of automatic. After I did it I thought Definitely should have flipped it first.

Hello. I have an ARP 9 for around 2 years now. All stock parts, never opened. Same as what you said at the start of the video, it started to sound quite different to a new one. I was planning to try and upgrade some parts on it to make it run smoother, but I don't want to make it shoot crazy FPS, ROF or some other nonsense. I am happy to keep it at 320-330 with 0.2 bbs. Could you help me get some proper parts for it. Been reading all kinds of forum posts, checking out all kind of videos, but I honestly have no idea what I should get since I never opened an airsoft gun before. Been reading how ceramic ball bearing are good for low FPS and ROF, and on the next post been reading how actually I should get bushing for low FPS and ROF since they are more reliable. I am totally in the dark. No idea what do do with the gears. Some people say "Just change them", while other say the original ones are fine. Same for the compression unit. Same for every single part the ARP9 has. People only seem to agree on the fact that you need a precision barrel, a hop up rubber and a new mosfet ( again everyone screaming how you absolutely need a Titan that costs 150 quid, something I would prefer not to spend money on and a month later just have it burn out on me). Thank you.

Hi. OK well first off I'm a firm believer in the moto that "if it ain't broke, don't fix it". So first of all it sounds like your happy with the performance as stock. That's great and just the same as me. I was happy with mine as it was. I have made no upgrades to the internals. I changed the mosfet out for the Perun etu ++. Didn't need to change it, but I wanted to review it. One of the videos is on that if you haven't seen it. That is the only upgrade I have done. To be fair all it does really is give you a few more functions and it's a bit smaller. There have been instances of the stock mosfet burning out but mine hasn't, of it did or you want more functions then I would go for the Perun. Much cheaper than an etu replacement or optical trigger system, like the Titan. As for barrel and hop rubber. I would only change those if your not happy with the range or consistency your currently getting. I've found the hop on mine as stock can lift heavy bb's with ease. If its started to sound different it may be the case that you have some worn components. Best thing to do is open up the gearbox. Give everything a good clean out and check for damage. If the piston is worn then you could replace it with stock or upgrade to something else. The gears should be fine. If you do have damage and want to maintain the level your at then a good quality set of 18:1 should be fine or a replacement stock set. If they are good though just grease them up with sparing amounts of good quality grease, silicone on the plastic parts and it should sound the same or better again. The argument of bearings vs bushings has been going for a while. If your new to shimming or tech in general then I would stick to bushings. Bushings are harder wearing and less prone to failure. The benefits of bearings tend to be minimal to be fair. Good quality bearings can also be costly. You shouldn't need to change what's there to be fair. You can check airseal on your cylinder piston and nozzle while you have it apart as shown in the video for m4 takedown. Again if anything is worn or bad, you can change out at that point. Overall be careful when viewing "upgrades" sometimes with our replicas they can end up being a downgrade. I hope this helps. If you need more specifics for parts let me know.

@@rockbottomairsoft Thank you for your quick response. I am actually quite happy with it as stock performance. I usually play in the Mill and a stock ARP9 is more than enough. During nice weather I play in Anzio and I noticed I get the same range as a longer gun(except DMR obviously). ROF is enough. Only thing I don't really like is the spread at long range, but then again...the barrel is super tiny. I am using .25 bbs all of the time so I don't need to lift bigger bbs. The only thing that I would care would be the binary trigger, since I asked if I can use it in those two location and they said " Yeah, no problem!". I really apreciate taking the time to answear my questions.

No worries. The spread at range can be reduced by improving shot to shot consistency. This normally is created with good air seal and reliable hop application. With that in mind, I would recommended to give it a good service. While your in the box test your air seal components, if they are worn then change them out. You would be looking at piston head, cylinder head and nozzle primarily. Also check your hop rubber is not worn and correctly seated as this also forms part of the air seal. Binary trigger is a feature of the Perun, so if you fancy that I would recommend that mosfet. Did a video on changing it out, its really easy to do. I hope you get your arp shooting how you want. Any other questions, let me know.
