How to divide and take cuttings from Sedum - Autumn Joy, Autumn Charm, Dazzleberry and Angelina 

I have actually just cut off a cutting near the base and stuck them in the ground and they grew beautifully. Sedum root’s amazingly. Don’t even need the rooting hormone. I have actually started 30 or more plants from an original Autumn Joy that was 30 years old.

I'm still a beginner at gardening so really appreciate you showing the process of taking cuttings in so much detail, like showing exactly where you cut the stem.

So glad I found this video. I’ve had my sedums for years & never thought about splitting them. The whole in the centre when they grew huge always upset me 😅 Now I will spilt them up, I have 3 spots in the garden of these plants & now I can spit them all up & plant around the garden elsewhere. I'd never had Sedum before moving to our current house three years ago. I LOVE the Sedum, it's beautiful, especially in Fall. But it was flopping open and that drove me crazy. I didn't know it needed dividing, so I put a peony ring around it last fall after I cut it back for winter. It grew this spring into the ring and is doing beautifully!

Great video! I have taken cuttings of the ground cover sedum and sprinkled it into my garden and it just grows! It's so cool. I have white sedum and I am not a fan, it looks beautiful for about a week or so but turns brown very quickly. I chop off the heads and then place them into the soil and they make new plants.....super easy!

Hi, good video. I love taking cuttings or dividing plants. All the éxperts' say, plant groups of threes .... this way you can do it very cheaply. One thing about gardening I find, it pays to be practical & patient.

So glad to find this video!! I was going to attempt this method with my Autumn Joy and have only found how to propagate with the leaves you remove rather than the stem. (I have done the "oops, I broke off a stem and poked in the ground" method, it definitely works😆) Happy to find that I can get multiple starts off one stem as well! I have yellow bouquet, coral reef, and firecracker sedum. I have it planted it a tree circle. To help spread it, I pull a piece near the base with a few starter roots; then replant it in a bare spot. After a week or two, it starts rooting good on its own. Got to keep it damp. For fertilizer, I use Dr Earth 2-2-2. They don't need much. Too much they'll get leggy. 🍀🌿🌾🐀🐾

Hi, I am so excited to have accidently found your very informative video on these beautiful flowers. We live in VA zone 7 and were cleaning up a home that hasn't had any outside attention in many years and discovered pots of these flowers thrown around the sides of the house. What is so amazing is how all these plants have adapted to the sun/shade they received for so many years and are still beautiful. So, I have a few questions in hopes you will respond. The text book says they belong in full sun. These plants have not been in full sun. If I had to guess it would be part sun and part shade for years. Should I keep these plants in these gross pots till next spring or should I start taking them out of these pots and transplanting them in the ground now? Our temperatures at night have taken a serious drop. Last night was 44 degrees. You are amazing and watching you gives me the courage to try and save these beautiful flowers. Thank you for all your help.

Great video! One question, though. Can the leaves you removed be propagated individually as well? Will a leaf grow a “pup” or baby like some of my other succulents?

It’s best to remove the flower heads to concentrate energy on forming roots.

Great help for others, but my experience with sedum autum joy is much different. Mine are about four times larger and have never flooped. You will have trouble if the soil is not right. Also, they like full sun. But even better they are deer resistant.

My sedum has been doing okay but starting last week, some of the flowers are turning brownish black? Can I cut it off? It has some small ones sprouting out. Thanks so much! I found your channel this morning.

Awesome video, very informative! We just got a TON of rain here and I noticed my Autumn Joy Sedums (I have two HUGE ones in my front garden) flopped over! It's breaking my heart. So, now I know they need to be split but can I split them now? A week before fall? I don't want to run the risk of hurting them. I guess worse come to worse I can tie them up with burlap string? ALSO! Sedums are attracting a ton of flies. Is there something you'd recommend to help this? PLEASE HELP

So sedum angelina could be in a short ditch in front yard so we don’t have to mow?

Is it really necessary to remove the WHOLE PLANT of Autumn Joy sedum rather than cutting off sections all around and giving those away or replanting elsewhere?

I just pull up some Angelina and throw the clump where i want it, and it will root. I dont even dig a hole.

So we have two autumn joy plants. They are full and beautiful but taller than the tier above them. Can the be cut down? We don't want to lose the buds.
