This video shows you how to divide and propagate your Love plant (also known as purple shamrock and by its latin name: Oxalis triangularis). These house plants grow rapidly, so it's good to divide them, creating more plants for you and keeping your original plant happy.

Thank you for your very clear demonstration on how to divide and care for this lovely plant, you also nailed the watering info for me too 🙏 I agree that there’s no need to buy plants. I love to get cuttings from friends and family and bring them on that way whenever I see the plant I remember the friend, my garden is full of friends 👍

My mom gave me an oxalis that happened into a plant I gifted her on Mother’s Day. It was in a 12” clay pot, and 8 yrs later, remains. I put in outside in shade all summer, and back inside in a sunny spot all winter. My mother’s been gone nearly six years, and soon I’ll attempt to divide and share. I’m in western Massachusetts, and today it’s 9°F. Thank you!

I live in North Texas and I have the green leaf variety with pink flowers in our front yard under our oak trees. They are so beautiful! They come back every year and they need little to no maintenance. Yesterday, I tried dividing the bulbs to have it spread to other parts of the front yard. Thanks for the watering advice. I will try not to give them too much water. Crossing my fingers!

My Shamrock plant looks very much like yours, grown from a single stem that was given to me years ago. I've been wanting to repot it for years after seeing a friend's potted in a large, oblong pot - it was absolutely perfect for the way this plant grows, but I always chicken out 😂 I have to go for it now though as I will be gifting a portion to my son's tutor (who has never left my home without first walking over to the plant to admire it. I swear I cringed watching you separate the stems, I can't get it out of my head that I'm not breaking up a family lol (I totally feel awesome about this process now that I know they get angry 😂) It's now or never I guess, thank you!

Oh it really does respond to what you do to it. Open a Curtain for more light or move it, or soak the bottom in the sink a few minutes, turn it in another direction, transplants, thinning, on & on. Sometimes it feels like a pet, it reacts. Love them! Mine were outside and I brought it in inside, it pouted & then boy it flourished. Now If I take it outside it has a hissy fit. Love them!

I have one which I have had for over 20 years its in a large pot but I've never repoted it . Maybe I should but it is blooming beautifully, and ofcourse it goes dormant in the winter. I have also got a new one grown from a corner of a leaf which i put in soil and watered a little when dry .

Thanks for this as I will have to split mine soon. Yesterday in the morning we had a little baby stem coming out the dirt, it might have been an inch long, to my surprise that evening it wasn’t a baby anymore that stem grew approximately 3 inches that day. Wish I would have a camera on it. I love this plant. I have never had one, but bought it last February and just love watching it. It’s like having another pet, but easier to take care of. Should I give it plant food? I know sine plants thrive on it and others not so much. Have a Great Day!

Mine loves crushed eggshells and coffee grounds. They cause the leaves to turn a very dark lush purple. I also only use collected rain water to water them! This plant originated in Brazil. The leafs and flowers are edible in small quantities. It thrives in acidic soil so about every three months sprinkle the plant with coffee grounds.

Getting the sections apart is very difficult because they intertwine. I usually get 2 to 3 dozen children from my Mama plant. Mama is huge, 16" pot, gets full sun for 5 hours per day and drinks about a pint per day. She always grows vigorously in warm weather but slows way down in cold weather because she is in a room that often goes down to 60*F at night. The casualties can be stuck in a glass of water and will often produce corms at their base so that they can be planted. You did a very nice video. Do you have any of the green triangularis? I sometimes mix the purple and the green in a pot which is kinda kool. With time the green will take over the pot so I have to do some dividing. I usually give away about 50 plants each year. Good Luck, Rick

I just bought 12 bulbs. Contemplating how many to plant. Honestly, I don't quiet understand. Does the plant multiply itself and creats more bulbs (that can be later separated like shown in this video)?. How many stems ("butterflies ") come out of each bulb?
@lolanervideos2781
@lolanervideos2781 4 года назад
Yeah, it multiply itself... When the plant gets thick you can start dividing...

Have you ever had to deal with 'rust' on these purple oxalis? My 3 plants, in London, UK, appeared 'clean' when i bought them about 3 months ago, but I had not seen the disease before, so I did not check for it. I took them out of the original pots and replanted into a large window-ledge trough but now the undersides of many leaves are badly affected. I took off most of the leaves on the worst affected plant, and that appears to have halted the spread, but obviously it weakens the plant, and now the 2 others are both somewhat affected. How should I proceed with over-wintering them, and restarting them next spring? I have seen high-potash feed recommended on USA sites, but do not know what to buy in UK- or what else to do instead?

I love my Oxalis. Was given one and now have four. My question is, when the flowers on a flower stem die, I have been gently removing the stem from the base. But is it better to leave dead flowers on the plant so that they can perhaps provide food for new stems?

To much sunlight AND you need to feed it coffee grounds every three months. This plant thrives in acidic soil. Or you can sprinkle pine needles around the sufferance which will feed the plant as well.

Some oxalis triangularis plants will go droopy when repotting. Tha's what mine did. If the bulbs of your plant are not rotten because of overwatering, everything will be fine. I removed all the leaves and new ones are growing.
