Since living and hunting in Germany for 9.5 years. I was taught by my German hunting Friend how to do the European skull mount. Compared to the old school American mount, what I call the mount you showed doing. Which after cleaning out the brains from the skull with pressure washing. All you do is use 10 or so paper towels and a bottle of Hydrogen Peroxide "HP", to finish the mount. Wrap paper towels around skull and just below antler base. Soak paper towels with HP with skull setting in 9×12 cake pan. Once all wet make sure to leave 1/4" of HP in bottom of pan so paper towels can draw up HP when needed. Within an hour skull is sterilized to cross state lines legally. Depending on how bright white you want the skull bleached determines how long you leave it in the HP. A bright white bleached skull with teeth usually is a 3-day sit in HP. P.S. if you want the bottom jaw also. Just wrap it seperately and soak in HP same time as Skull. I've checked with 3 states IA,IL, and NE. All have said my method constitutes the legality of their laws of transport across state lines due to everything being sterilized. Thought I'd throw that out there to ya if you hadn't thought about trying it. Love your guys DRIVE and Videos for Hunting!!! Keep them coming, some of the BEST HUNTING VIDEOS on Utube in my book!!!
Great idea on the state plaques! I have a set of antlers I’ve been wanting to do something with, and have thought about one of those “fake skulls” that have been hydro dipped in the American flag, or camo or something. Just thought about doing something different. Also, the amount of hardener you add will dictate how long it takes for the body filler to set up. Just a FYI for anyone not familiar. Thanks for sharing.
Just wanted to stop in and leave a comment. Really enjoy all your videos. And y'all got me motivated to try a neighboring state this year. Keep em coming!
That’s a great way to mount the antlers. I do them myself also but I am going to take a few of your ideas and use them. I like the idea of using the states as a plaque. Thanks
Cool idea Especially to save space but now what ideas do you have for shed horns. I usually find 10-30 a year in my area some years better than others but usually find one or two good sets so my pile is constantly growing yearly
Back when i was a kid my old man always used to mount all his horns himself. Damn near the same technique yall do. Dad always got small rope for around the base of the antlers and he used a chammy that u use for drying off vehicles for the wrap. his always turned out good. And last yr i shot a big 9 pt in powder season and a big 12 pt in rifle and im trying my hand at the skull mount on both of them. As always fellas great video. Cant wait to see ya this season. BEST OF LUCK this yr to u both.
The state plaques are nice. Also had a idea about cutting a insert in the back of the plaque so I could insert photos, gps coordinates and the story of the kill. so maybe one day my great grandkids could look up exactly where and how I made the kill. Figured its just another mount if it doesn't have a story attached.
Have you guys not been posting many videos this season seems like there are more from last year at this time but this is only my second season following you guys I enjoy the content a lot especially the out of state hunts
New sub here guys..Great idea on the state plaques..Can't wait till you get your Wisconsin buck..And I'm wondering where (county) your gonna choose to hunt in our big buck state?...Love your channel.
@@doityourselfhunter9031 back a little while ago from sittin in a swamp..didnt see anything but a lot of nature around me..your welcome for the sub..great show.
I don’t kill as many deer nowadays that I live in a one buck state North Dakota so I have to find ways to get my fix like shed hunting and scouting for older bucks in over looked places North Dakota introduced eposting this year so much harder to find access to places in the past now that the land owner just registers with the DNR and doesn’t have to physically post the property anymore but we still have plots land to thru the state programs (walk-in only)
Well Jeremy i see a Oklahoma and a Arkansas. Im from Fort Smith Which is in NW Arkansas and i Hunt Oklahoma and Arkansas. Hit me up and i Know Place Has 35,000 acres of WMA land that is all river bottoms, right up your alley.
Old video, old comment, for the longest time I didn’t know the difference. My dad pointed out that “horns” are not shed by the critter (horns are usually on Bovine (cows) or their family species) but “antlers” are shed each winter and regrown by the critter (deer, elk, and the like) That’s why people always call out the difference, unless a man downs a buffalo or a cow, it’s antlers. I’d like to see someone hold a buffalo and call the horns “antlers” the internet would explode!😂😂😂😂
