Hi, been doing weddings for 7 years now. Few comments: On how weddings are different-everything MUST be clean versions. Thank you for mentioning DJ Intelligence. On attending the rehearsal-I agree with your comments but be sure to charge for your time. Its the most valuable thing you have. On MCing-Great comments.

No. I only play dirty versions.

I now ask couples if they want clean or dirty versions. Most of my clientele want dirty/original. As for planning with my clients, I use VIBO as my planning app

Very nice way to teach us, a newbie dj here. I have a question, at weddings do you think is better to play original tracks or re-edited? For what I can see (and feel), at a wedding is best the originals. But I want to know your opinion. Thanks!
@djmojoeofficial
@djmojoeofficial 2 года назад
usually original because it's something that they're more familiar with. re-edited tracks are great if you're going for a certain vibe that you can't get with the original or some re-edited tracks have a certain purpose to help you mix creatively that you can't get with original tracks.

Do you have a questionnaire sheet that you send the clients before the wedding to get first dance song, names, entrance songs… do you mind sharing the questionnaire if you have one?

@@djmojoeofficial It went really well, one of my friends that does a lot of worship / plays drums in a band was there to help me with setup and check the sound levels etc. I totally recommend for anybody trying to do weddings, to go pro-bono first time, and use that as a way to attract future clients or to build a resume'. There are tons of different venues out there, but weddings seems rather seasonal. I used my IMAC27 and NUMARK Party mix, with some PEAVEY speakers, sound mixer, and an oldschool amp... I found with weddings it's real easy to get caught up in drama-- so just remain neutral especially when dealing with the coordinator... Find out what exact announcements to make and at what time. Make sure if you are using a cloud database to have a strong hotspot or ask venue if you can buy wifi for a small fee (this particular one charged me $10) I noticed because there was other events going on in the area-- the wifi got slower throughout the evening... Once it was all underway it was pretty easy. I just had to remind myself, the Bride and Groom were more nervous than I was... Hope this helps... Thanks for taking the time to respond, God Bless.

I really enjoy these Dj tips videos. Just subscribed to the channel. Good job...my question for you would be about MCing. Do you write down your speech and introductions or freestyle it. I also have my first wedding coming up so I appreciate the help.
@djmojoeofficial
@djmojoeofficial 6 лет назад
Cool thanks for the sub! I still need to make a video about MCing. When I first started, I write down my lines and a script and practice saying them out loud to somewhat memorize them and make sure i sound natural. The more you practice and MC at events, eventually you can do a bit of freestyle but you always remember your lines in case you need to go back to them

This was great advice. I'm new to djing and I have a question about djing with serato and a laptop. What if the venue doesn't have wifi or internet connection what would you recommend (a hotspot); if so which one?
@djmojoeofficial
@djmojoeofficial 5 лет назад
I then use my iPhone as a hotspot. I do that in tough situations and works. How new are you to DJing? Let me know how else I can help

Thanks for responding I really appreciate it. I'm fairly new. I had turntables maybe 14 years ago and was just a bedroom dj. I am now looking to pick it back up and make a career out of it. It has always been my passion. I will definitely hit you up again with any further questions. Thanks.

Mr. D J MoJoe. What would you do if your a D.J at a wedding reception and the bride and groom hand you a three page ( A4 ) sheets of requests they would like played at there Wedding. Even down to songs before the meal, and after. About 70 percent of them are no good for dancing too or no one else would have probably heard of them before? e.g ( Reeling In The Years - Steely Dan. ) I do have all the music but I fear it's not going to be one of those great party nights. I will honor there wishes as they are paying for it. But I will also have a separate music list at the ready.
@djmojoeofficial
@djmojoeofficial 6 лет назад
Good question. In your contract with them, do you have any clause about protecting yourself for cases like these? Maybe consult with future couples about this how you request to have a music playlist at least 1-2 weeks prior to the wedding to guarantee that their music can be played. If they give you a late playlist, you can't guarantee that you'll have every song since it's last notice. Also consult with them that they're hiring you to play music that the couple wants and at the same time incorporating other music that from your experience and expertise would be best for the crowd. Let them know that they're giving you the creative freedom to do your job and at the same time please the couple. If I received a 3 page sheet from the couple the day of, I would say, "Great! Thank you for these songs SUGGESTIONS. I believe I have most of these songs in my system. I'll work these songs in to where I see they fit in using my best judgement. However, I can't guarantee that I'll be able to play all of them. Is that okay with you?" Hope that helps. But try to avoid this situation in the first place. It's too stressful lol. Have the songs in advance.

Many Thanks for the reply. I do have a week or two before there Big day and I have already suggested that some of the least well-known music should be played during the meal time ( Low background music ) And also suggested the other least known should be played as people are coming in ( Before any dancing takes place ) I do have an info sheet I ask them to fill in for me ( Parents names, Best man ect.) And I leave about 8 lines so they can state there Must play songs. I think they got carried away a little with that bit. I have to admit that I'm new to the Wedding gigs, having done parties way back in the 80's on what was called turn-tables. I' moved away from d.jing years back now and have just started up again. This will be about my 8th gig in 2018 and thanks to yourself, Barr, Jay Book and Rick Webb. It gives me the confidence to hit the gigs once more. Thanks Once again for your great advice.
