Love this! Stop give our money to these companies! If you can do it yourself you should, and it’s helpful to know how your car runs! My dads always done mine as he’s worked with cars before so now it’s my time to learn and I’ll pass this on to my children too!!!!!!
Its good to learn everything you can I don't pay anyone to do anything for me. You would not believe how simple a dishwasher is to fix when you can look it up on youtube.
i have a citroen xsara 1.9 diesel , and changing the oil filter is awkward but ive done it first time , took me 30 minutes to change oil and oil filter ... quite messy and hard to get to filter , but really satisfying to do it yourself and you can feel the engine run better afterwards
Something to think about, this is fantastic for the basic oil change service once a year but every few years its still a great idea to get a full service from a mechanic. Its heaps more quid but they'll check other crucial things like belts, suspension, brakes etc and make sure your motor is in tip top! Only needed every 2 or 3 years though I reckon
What I forgot to say in this vid is to get the very first service done to keep the initial warranty. After that it saves you so much money doing it yourself
Thank you Amy you should easily be able to do your car service now. If you RU-vid the make of your car you might see someone actually servicing that brand. It just saves more money than you would think. Have a good day👍
Thanks for sharing. You made me chcukle though by saying we don't have money to through away, you clearly do with that beautiful house lol. Thnaks again, buddy.
All that glitters is not gold. I can only afford this place because I built it myself. I could never afford to buy it. That's what I do I make and save money by doing everything myself. I would love to video a build so I could show people how to save thousands but brexit has got me on hold for now
Learnt well from this thank you. Love the genuine advice. Aiming to buy a 2013 Peugeot 3008 Diesel Auto next after 6 years of my first car. I really hope prior service work has been done properly, seen as milage for my budget - roughly 50 - 60k. Will see how managable this next vehicle is for all things service related 🙂
Good video but what I do is I drive it up on a lift and I give the half shafts and the arms and the wish bones a tiny shake just to see if there's anything loose or any play if there was it would likely not pass nct or mot
Thanks for the video. The more you service you engine the longer it will last. I saw a D4D Hilux with 1,2 million km on! The owner services it every 5 000 km
Only thing i'd say is to lubricate the oil filter's seal before you put it on, as it does increase the longevity of the seal. Other than that, great video!
I actually did and always do oil the rubber but for some reason I didn’t film that bit in this video. I look back at videos years later and ask myself why didn’t I show this at that. Thank you though mate
Great video, especially as I own the same truck, never tried to service it myself, until I saw your video which is excellent, air filter was easy, fuel filter was easy, it didn't start first time but I just primed it more and it has been fine, I don't have ramps, I crawled under but I could not see the sump nut, could it be obscured by the sump guard? Is it at the rear of the sump? Sorry I couldn't tell from your video. Thanks.
Richard Jackson Yes you can get to it at the back of the sump without removing anything. You might need a little extension bar to reach it. It’s one big bolt in the back of the sump you can’t miss it. Just make sure you keep hold of it and put the copper washer back on with it. The engine always needs more priming. Nice one mate
Absolute wisdom here. Those mechanics are thieves and their time to lose their businesses due to their dishonesty has come. I'm not handy at all and I just changed my sparkplugs jn 1 hour. Honda wanted $570 to do it
The dealer tech wont get the full service kit. Most main dealers usually have bulk oil tanks. It is rarely the manufacturer approved oil as you would buy from the parts counter. Most dealers buy the cheapest oil that meets the specs. Also from experience I have seen the wrong spec oil get used.
I do it because I want it done properly. Some garages like to make out that a service is a huge project. I get the first service done for the warranty and the rest done by me. I put the receipts in the book sign date and milage it. Not a single buyer of my vehicles has ever had a problem with my explanation about doing it properly
@@buddysinsight9834 Thanks. I am right now just ordering the filters I will need online, and was thinking last night about how to get around the ramp situation.
You can carefully jack up each side of the car and put a couple of thick wooden blocks under the wheels. It’s just so you can put a big piece of cardboard down and slide under the car. What type of car is it you want to service?
@@buddysinsight9834 good idea! The car is a 2009 hyundai tucson. Has 180k on it and have not had a service in over 3 years. It is getting old now and worried I am doing major damage by not changing oil so had the idea of learning to do the basics myself so I could at least change oil etc and filters more often if I knew how.
@@Ann-ly5lk Well done you I promise it’s very easy to do. If you type into RU-vid 2009 Hyundai Tucson service there is videos on how to do it exactly for that car. I am not sure we get them here in the uk I don’t recognise them.
To be honest, these type of vehicles Imagine are alot easier to maintain than newer ones as they are all compact and fitted with more pipes and cables than you can fit your head around. Another issue is with my T5 308 the service manual is only obtainable via Peugeot for rent.
Every vehicle comes with a small book that explains basic maintenance. Also even new engines all follow the same simple principle change oil and filters. There’s some engines that you need to check the oil when the car is running but it’s always explained in the little book.
The accoustic guitar makes it seem easy. Do you have the footage of you struggling with the oil filter removal or cleaning up the oil from your arm etc?
A full service should include a visual check of all consumables, likes of brakes, tyres, .....moreover, a full service should include an electrical diagnostic assessment....so to conclude, your recording cannot be viewed as a full garage service ( in my opinion)
It’s always good to also look over a vehicle as well. One thing not to forget is the vehicle is fitted with many early warning lights so if there is any problems it will safely tell you. Anything electrical will show up before your service. Brake pads indicate when needing changing etc. There are many things on a dealerships list used to bulk out the bill but don’t worry one good service and cast your eye over is ideal.
pritesh the only thing that will be well inspected and lubricated at the dealers is your wallet...a service is a service is a service....dealers dont have magic fingers....
I did mine for the first time a couple weeks ago, asked kwikfit and they wanted like 180 quid. I went to euro car parts got oil a ratchet and all filters and a drain pan for less than 50 because of black friday pricing. Never apying for a service again
My only question would be regarding recorded service history - if you have done it yourself, there is no stamp, so would your car lose value in comparison to get it done by dealer and getting a stamp in the service book?
I have sold my used cars to dealers and very carful private buyers and not one person in all these years has doubted whether it’s been done or not. If you buy a main dealer service kit the receipt has the reg and all of the details on it. I just write the mileage on that and the service book and slip it in that page. I have saved thousands doing it and I always sell my vehicles at the going rate. I do it because I know it gets done properly and that’s what I tell people. It’s still a service history no matter who does it👍
Me being a technician at a garage this is a good video, however you missed a few bits (removing the oil cap before draining oil to prevent a vacuum being created) this is self explanatory but to the untrained eye…
I agree with you I should have filmed that part like you say people wouldn’t consider something like that. I always look back on old videos and see things that I edited out or missed. Thank you mate👍
Playboi Smoovz Yes this was a full service. I don’t know where you’re from but in the UK we have something called an MOT this is a safety inspection. Companies tend to big something up to justify the money. One good service and a mot will keep you going well
Just go to a main dealer of your car make. You will be saving so much money getting the official parts will not be that expensive. Then you can place the receipts in your service book. When you re-sell the car people love genuine parts fitted. 👍. Message me if you get stuck
Pritesh Champaneri the reason why I made this video is because I tested the dealers services and everything they say they did they didn't often it's about profit not service.
The parts department will tell you how much you need and then as you top up the car keep checking with the dipstick to make sure you don't go over the maximum line. Message me if you get stuck
Charlton Athletic 22 You just go to the service department of any dealership and they give you exactly what you need. Message me if you get stuck and I will help you.
Charlton Athletic 22 Yes just give them your registration number and they will Collect everything it needs. That way you know what needs changing. Keep the recipe put the mileage on it and place it in your service book. If a item looks complicated to you just search it up and see how it’s done on a Audi. Very easy
ya that all good but if you go to the mechanic they will put a stamp in your logbook to say that it have been serviced and that is why they charge so much money as well :)
I put all of my receipts in the log book sign and date it with the milage and not a single person who I have sold my vehicles to in 20 years have had a problem with it. If anyone asks me I say I do it because I want it done properly. It gets done properly with me and not rushed.
Yes they do but if you can provide proof with dated receipts in the book that it has a full service history know one has a problem. A genuine dealer service kit receipt is total proof. Trust me I buy and sell every couple of years and even car traders except my previous cars and service history. Servicing is a manufacturers way of getting more out of the car deal. It works so well for me the money I have saved in my lifetime is amazing.
I look back on these old videos and I can see many things I could’ve done better. You can be blind to things when editing I think that’s why the bbc have 3 editors to check things over. I am in Thame :)
Bloody cafes... They are asking me £6 for bloody coffee. I can make about 30 cafes for that money. Please, brew your own coffees, don't buy them in expensive cafes.
The GLC is not mine it belongs to Mercedes. I am just a bloke that liked it that's all. We get a brand new merc from Mercedes every 6000 miles for the last 16 years so I am so used to driving them.
+Buddy's Insight Good for you to be able to afford a new car every year . I qualified has a mechanic many years ago ( I started a new career ) but in 20 years of owning cars I've only service 1 car, the rest been at dealers or local garages . Great videos by the way !
I just buy a genuine service kit from a main dealer and I put the mileage date and my signature on the receipt. Then I slip it in the service book. Every car I have ever sold the buyers have been more than happy. Saved myself thousands and I know the job is done right
