How To Do Lunges In The Gym - All Experience Levels

In this video, we talk about all things lunges. How to correctly complete the exercise and appropriately scale them towards your exercise level. If you are someone new to the gym or someone who wants to learn more about lunges in general, check out this video.
The first exercise we discuss in the video is the Trx step-back lunge. I recommend this to people just starting their fitness journey. Using the Trx will allow you to have greater stability and take some of the load off of your legs and displace it into your upper body.
Once you've mastered that exercise you can move into standing lunges. Standing lunges will be more difficult because you now have to do the stability on your own and more weight will be loaded into your lower body to complete the movement.
After you're comfortable there you can move into the staple walking lunges. This will be more difficult because you now add another layer of instability to the movement by being on one leg at a time and moving through space. There is also the chance that when completing walking lunges you will load more weight on the musculature surrounding the knee because of the walking momentum. To combat this keep in mind how far the knee is traveling forward when walking.
Finally, the last variation of the lunge we go over is the unilateral lunge. This is completed by placing a weight in one hand and completing the walking lunge. Adding weight to one side of your body will require you to use more core musculature to stay upright and balanced.
