I want to discuss my experience with the weight loss drug, tirzepatide. I want to briefly touch on the mechanism of action of tirzepatide. It works on the brain, digestive tract, and pancreas to do a few different things, all of which suppress appetite and lowers what we call "food noise."
I actually took this medication in an off-label fashion. Instead of taking an injection every 7 days, I took an injection every 5 days. This was based off of the pharmacological half-life of the medication.
I want to first discuss the benefits I experienced while taking tirzepatide. First, I lost weight. I've never had an issue losing weight, but this made it significantly easier. I just wasn't hungry and when I did eat, I became satiated much faster than I normally would.
The second benefit I noticed was that my cravings for everything went down. I usually chew a bit of nicotine gum in the morning, however I noticed that for the first several days after my tirzepatide injection, my cravings significantly lowered.
Now let's talk about the drawbacks. The first drawback was nausea. This didn't last long but it was definitely pronounced for the day after my injection.
The second drawback of tirzepatide was constipation. I was surprised by this because other people expressed the opposite effect.
The final drawback had to do with my performance in the gym. I noticed that my lifts went down faster than anticipated. However, I don't believe this is a result of the medication. Instead, I believe the medication just allowed me to maintain a deeper than usual calorie deficit, which always impacts performance.
All of this is just my experience, and should not be taken as medical advice. These medications can have serious side-effects and you should always seek the guidance of a qualified medical professional before ever taking any prescription medication.

I always take magnesium citrate at bedtime to keep regular. Take my shot at night and don’t get nausea; also I don’t eat junk.

Magnesium can definitely help. I take it every night too. For me, I was still bound up but everyone is different. I’m glad you found a good method for you!

What about the nicotine? Did you stop or lose cravings after the one day?
@Wallace_Fitness_Center
@Wallace_Fitness_Center 2 месяца назад
I noticed less cravings for about 3 days after a shot. Then it came back haha. Currently off of tirzepatide and I chew it 3x per week now.

@@Wallace_Fitness_Center thank you! I’m trying to find the best way to lose belly fat as a 47 year old in menopause. lol my doc said my bmi is too low for anything to be prescribed but this belly apron is horrible. Any non-prescription supplements or anything at all you would recommend that could help?

Yeah check out my video “5 steps to losing weight and keeping it off.” And “How to use Myfitnesspal to lose weight” That will help from a non-prescription perspective. As for medication - If you’re trying to get HRT or GLP-1 receptor agonists your PCP probably isn’t the person to contact. If you have a reputable HRT clinic in your state that understands perimenopausal females you should reach out to them. They could help you out. The unfortunate part of that is that it’s usually out of pocket care. If you’re a PA resident then you can reach out to my clinic and we could help you.

As someone who doesn’t need to lose weight, what did you make of your 7 pound weight loss?
@Wallace_Fitness_Center
@Wallace_Fitness_Center 21 день назад
I think it was a reasonable rate of weight loss. As the owner of an HRT and medical weight loss clinic in also believe it added experience to my clinical knowledge of the medication.

@dez6278 40% is way to high. It should be 25%. For you this may have been somewhat justified if you were obese but people need to understand these are life time drugs. You can't get off them without major, and I mean major, lifestyle changes. The side effects of these drugs are not well public in the US due to DTC marketing. Please look at the media in countries that do not have DTC. They are open about the side effects because they are not beholden to the pharmaceutical companies. A very large part of the US media's revenue is tied to pharma. Just watch any prime time news shows. Nearly all the adds are pharma. In other countries the media is free to discuss the effects without retribution.

You lost muscle not fat. These drugs are exceedingly dangerous. Don’t, just don’t.
@Wallace_Fitness_Center
@Wallace_Fitness_Center 2 месяца назад
I’m sure I lost fat and muscle. I believe that much of the muscle loss can be contraindicated with a high protein diet and consistent resistance training. Can you explain a mechanism of action where the drug itself can cause muscle wasting beyond what is typical in a calorie deficit? I’m genuinely inquiring.
@Mef637
@Mef637 2 месяца назад
@@Wallace_Fitness_Center the issue is you can’t get enough protein to offset the muscle loss. Protein is satiating and you have no appetite on these drugs so you simply can’t consume enough. In order to offset the muscle loss you have to eat much more protein than one is capable of on these drugs and you must become dogmatic about lifting. Neither of which the average American is remotely equipped to do.
@Wallace_Fitness_Center
@Wallace_Fitness_Center 2 месяца назад
If you watched the video in its entirety, you would see that in addition to taking this medication, I resistance trained 5x per week and ate north of 200g of protein per day. So to say “you can’t get enough protein” is patently false. To say that “You lost muscle not fat.” Is incredibly presumptuous. I do believe I lost some muscle, but not more than an equivalent calorie deficit would have rendered. And I do believe I preferentially lost fat over muscle. As for the average American, I agree with your statement. That’s why my clinic is just part of my total wellness center, where we advise on nutrition and exercise in addition to medication. I actually give out a free ebook to any of our patients who want it for resistance training. These concerns that we both share are addressed in the video, if you would have watched it in its entirety. There are risks to these medications and they need to be weighed with the patient and a qualified medical professional. That’s not me, and it sounds like that’s not you either.

@@Wallace_Fitness_Center I watched the entire video and I think you did a nice job addressing that issue and balancing the risks. My point it that the protein intake and weight work required to maintain long term health on these drugs would take a massive amount of stress and discipline. If one could sustain such effort, they very likely could lose weight without the drug. My guess is these will be pulled from the market like fen-phen. That was a miracle until it wasn’t. I think your video did a good job of balancing the risk.

Not true. I've been on the brand name for a year and read the studies. You lose the same amount of muscle on these drugs as with normal dieting, about 40% muscle so 60% fat. (In fact some studies show it's 50/50 with normal calorie deficit so it could be even better.) This means your percent of muscle increases as you lose weight even without working out because you're losing more fat than anything so what's left is a bigger % of your weight. For several months I was using a scale that measures fat, muscle, water, etc and was seeing my % of muscle increase despite not working out. Later I realized my muscle was going up monthly at about the same % as the fat I was losing. I saw a doctor explaining this too soon afterwards. That said, some people have side effects. I started on ozempic (for blood sugar and weight) and the constipation and fatigue was too much so I was switched to mounjaro and had no side effects until the highest dose. I was morbidly obese and I'm 20# from a healthy bmi now. You do need to do things to maintain your health like the guy said. Edit- I read the rest of your conversation here and most ppl in the FB and reddit groups on these meds drink protein shakes, things like that, and aim for 100g a day. I get about 30g in food and 60g from low calorie complete essential amino acid drinks.
