What treatment have you tried for OCD? 🤔
@polyloly2120
@polyloly2120 2 года назад
Hi Nathan 👋, I have a question and would be extremely grateful if you answer it.. I start feeling sad and disappointed about the nature of human beings and start to judge others when I see them involving in sexual activities, my brain believes that sex is a sin and anyone who is sexually active is a horrible and evil person, I start feeling depressed when I see other people do immoral stuff.. What type of ocd do you think I have? And what can I do about it..

@@shabnam6059 erp takes a lot of hard work constantly and medicine takes 6-8 weeks to properly work, but make sure your taking the right medication for your needs. You cannot get these things for free you need Professional help with erp and a doctor to Prescribe your medicine. You just need to be Patient and it will all work out and things will get better because they have for me. 🙂

This clip is so motivating and encouraging! I think it's actually a good thing that treatment for OCD does sound so simple. I want to say as someone who’s gone through treatment and then went back into the loop again 2.5 years later. For those who are getting through this for the first time, don’t worry if it ever gets hard again, it might feel different if it does. It’ll be less scary because you’ll have a grasp of what’s happening but it’ll still bug you. Almost like you can’t shake it but it doesn’t scare you as much. The weird part about this for me was, I worried more that I might like what’s going on in my mind more so than I was scared in general. I battled this for months until I realized I can get out of it the same way as the last time. These videos have really helped me remember how to get on my feet again, thank you for all that you do!

Intrusive thoughts are difficult because they feel real but in reality, we don’t want them. They are intrusive for a reason, obviously this is easier said than done. I struggle with intrusive thoughts very frequently. You are not alone! I do think that when you give into intrusive thoughts, whether it be compulsions like reassurance or something different, it could become easier to snowball from there and continue to give into the thoughts- but like I said, you are not alone! Plenty of people have beaten and controlled their ocd and intrusive thoughts and compulsions and so can you. Just because you have the thoughts doesn’t mean you want them, like them, or agree with them. That icky feeling when you get an intrusive thought, and when you really want to stop thinking about it, almost reinforces the point that you actually don’t want the intrusive thoughts. Hopefully this was able to help/comfort you even the slightest bit. I’m here to talk even if it’s not ocd/thoughts related- that goes for anyone reading this !!

Nathan can you do a video on trauma ocd? Idk if anyone else has this, but there has to be. It's when your ocd revolves around past trauma. So it's a mix of real event ocd. For example, you live with someone that caused some type of past trauma. You do something like not answer their text. Then anxiety says " oh no you better answer them because the last time you did something like this they got mad, started an argument, then caused you that trauma". It's almost like a mix of ptsd and OCD. The OCD is telling you it's a real threat even when you know you have ocd because it's actually happened before, possibly multiple times which makes you even question if it's ocd too.

That actually sounds really scary! But also pretty straightforward, that is handy. I did thought about making a list of all my compulsions, and kind of ranking them on how difficult/irritating/debilitating they are, and to handle them one by one, but i didn't do that bcs i thought it would be too overwhelming or too long of a list. When i came up with that idea it just seemed silly and unhelpful maybe, but now seeing you talk about it, and kind of recommending it and bringing it in a motivating way, i think I am going to try it! Thank you! And also all the comments here made me feel less alone, so that's why I decided to comment this comment :)

i just watched a series on coming out on netflix for exposure work for my sexual orientation ocd ERP! i even listened to a story about a couple who had a loving marriage, no intimacy issues, but the man had extreme control issues and constantly monitored what his wife said and where she went. after their divorce (21 years together), he ultimately came out as gay. and although it initially scared me, i took a breath and just listened. maybe that’ll be me, maybe not. i don’t have to sit around and feel scared to leave my house or check every memory to feel safe. i feel really proud of myself, especially since yesterday i had a terrible episode and gave into some compulsions.

A conquered it doing what you said with ocd 15 years ago till it was second nature,when you’re in an anxious state as I was with health anxiety asking family members, friends , anyone doesn’t help but while I was getting ocd a got reassurance from 2 doctors written down, as you said with one there was a few what ifs with 2 a really convinced myself and while in the early stages of my ocd treatment it was a relief and made me calmer and enabling me to relax and eventually dismiss the thoughts and haven’t looked at the reassurance since as I don’t need to

you must welcome ALL thoughts especially those which make you feel anxious. The key part is to not response to them woth fear but agree with them (for example in a sarcastic way). Even better is actively seeking those umwanted thoughts and agree with them and let them be there as long as they want to until they vanish and your anxiety alleviates by itself. All while you focus on your daily life. But remember do not engage in compulsions while doing ERP ( basically don‘t engage in any behaviour that makes you feel better temporarily while your anxiety is building up such as trying to contradict the OCD thought with logic) I hope this comment helped you a bit if your still struggling with OCD. And remember to be patient with yourself😊 Edit: Watch Ali Graymond‘s “How to properly do ERP for OCD thoughts“. This video explains very well how should behave with OCD thoughts

Should you work with a therapist on the “why” behind your subtype? Or should we leave that alone too?

My girlfreind is trying to help me beat ocd because i am on a waiting list for therapy and its taking a long time, although she tells me to face all my ocd fears at once and go for an all or nothing approach, im not sure wether this is the right thing to do though, i attempted last night and barely slept, my ocd has got so bad now its destroying my life. I wish i had the perfect advice
