I'm a licensed cosmo and one of my clients has been going back and forth on whether or not she wants to dread her hair, this is PERFECT to see if she would actually like them or not! Great video
But you can comb out dreadlocks if you really do get them. Even if they are a few years old, it takes time, but you can comb them out! Just if you really wanted the locks without chopping your hair off in the end!
I was worried it wouldn't work on my thinner hair but it was easier than I imagined. Cleaning it off wasn't bad either! Thank you so much for posting this. :)
I have a girlfriend that backcombed her dreads, had them for five years, combed them out and her hair was the healthiest hair I have EVER seen. NO breakage, just silky smooth, glistening hair. Backcombing and dreads does not damage hair... Dreads in fact are miracle workers for a lot of people seeking healthy hair.
Thanks Brea! I am a South African metal musician with hair down to my thighs and I finally have a way to keep my healthy hair AND look badass on stage! You rock!
My guess on the science: straight hair shows for sebum to travel down the hair shaft keeping it coated from the hair spray better than a curly texture. The heat was fairly minute considering the sections are twisted. Then wax on the ends make them less likely to break off. It truly is the mega protective style for straight hair
these are really pretty!! i used to have real dreads but i took them out yesterday! i will probably end up missing them and i love the look so doing this will be a really good way to recreate it- they look absolutely great and people who get all high and mighty about them not being real etc should learn to not say anything if they cant say anything nice- people can do what they like with their own hair!
Hey, I was wondering for how long the dreadlocks stay in your hair, and stay pretty as they are when you make them? Btw, I love this video, thanks for sharing your method! Brea Felton
To anyone bitching at her for damaging her hair - use heat protectant. And then you can proceed to QUIT your bitching. Your tutorial was lovely, dear :)
this is great for someone trying to decide if they want locks or not, but you don't have to cut your hair off if you get real ones( if you decided you didn't want them anymore) you just need a day and a lot of conditioner. (had locks for some time)
You said you didn't want to kill your hair yet you hairspray it and then flat ironed it. That totally fries your hair.... Btw I'm not trying to be rude
I would do it with only the comb and the wax and skip the hairspray and straightening iron. Thank you for product recommendations. I was actually considering the Osis+ Thrill wax to do mine as well but second thoughts, many sources are recommending gel instead of wax.
Thank You Brea! This was my dream hair growing up but I never knew how to do it. I loved your video. These Older youtube videos are so genuine. Thanks again, Good day!😃
ok so im not trying to bash or point out something to make you look bad xD but isnt putting hairspray on and then a straightening over it really bad for the hair???? would a blowdryer work as well if i just straightened my hair beforehand??? (i have pretty wavy/curly hair so i think i would have to straighten my hair before or the dreads wouldnt look the way i want them too.) ty for the tutorial though. ill be soooooo happy if i can find a way to do this without damaging my hair ^ ^
I was looking for a tutorial of rob zombies Halloween 2 Laurie strodes hair and this is what I was looking for! There isn’t anything else I found that’s like the movie style hair I needed.
Okay everyone, calm down. Dreads aren't permanent and hair spraying while straightening it kills your hair. I get it. Enough with the hating comments lol I made this video to HELP show you how to do this, give me a break people.
Haha you don't wanna kill your hair by back combing but you're willing to put all these products in your hair and then apply heat on top of them by straightening it. Logic ;)
that much product in her hair really isnt that bad for it. as long as she doesnt leave it all in for a really long period of time. it's definitely not as damaging as tons of back combing. bye
You are so pretty , you look like that one actress i cant think of her name lol dang it haha anyways i been thinking about doing dreads nice video and God bless
You can get rid of real dreadlocks without having to cut them all of. If you just have an a at least okay hair quality, you can just brush them out. All you need is a few hours and a lot of conditioning xD I know how that process works; start by applying lodes of hair conditioning and really rubbing it into the dreads, then you just start combing them out with a good comb from the tips. :) Hope this news will make you releved/happy, Brea Felton :) Btw, good tutorial! Lokks great!
It's better to use the gel / cream made for locking and this purpose waxes and such are not good bc with different hair types waxes can be verrrrrry thick and hard to remove from hair you can do damage so take caution use the (extensions) locking gel/creams at a local hair supply store they don't permanently lock your hair or it wouldn't be a temporary look she did good though and the wax could increase greases mess of your hair is resistant to the locking gel /cream a light wax may be good
You would look great with dreads. I used to have them im going to redo them I want them a little bigger. I used my flat iron on them when I had them with murrays beeswax and it locked thsm in 5mths. It keeps them tight and together in case you were ever worried about them looking a mess the first couple of months. A hour a day with a straightener and wax your hair would ne locked in 5mth
I think the difference being that mature dreads contain all of the completely dead, fallen out hair as well as millions of skin cells, washing your dreads is about all you can do but doing proper dreads is a big commitment, if you get them removed, you are talking about losing a lot of hair mass, pulling it out with heaps of conditioner won't save it, u won't need to cut ur hair but think, ur allowing ur hair to collect dead hair follicles, cells and strands, u'd do this not often for sure tho
you don't HAVE to cut all your hair off when you are done having dreads. just the ends that are really tight. I have seen people with dreads for 7 years brush them out. And the hair came out long and healthy (after the frizziness calmed down in a few days). Not being snarky just want people to know that. Otherwise, great vid!! Before I got my 2nd set done I always wanted to know this so I could do it until I was ready to commit again.
This is cool, but I think you should know, you don't have to cut off all your hair to get rid of real dreads. You just pour like a gallon of conditioner on it and slowly pull the hair out. Also, most people that have real dreads don't even use wax (it's terrible for your hair and it doesn't help that much more) so, to be honest, the dreads come out fairly easily most of the time. Just thought you should know in case you wanted real dreads. You won't have to cut all your hair off.
@ Kyler Ann, Does it even matter if the hair gets messed up if you do dreads on em???? I mean sweety HAIR GROWS BACK AGAIN !!!! Is not like were guna cut off one of our body parts and it wouldnt grow back. But hair????? Come on dude its just hair. Hair grows back anyways so keep your opinions to yourself and leave people alone with their hair sheesh
I'm in love with how you're hair came out but I'm kind of...frightened. Lol. I love dreads but I don't want to cut off ALL of my hair, like you said. And I love the way you're hair looks and though you said they come out easily I'm intimidated. Can you explain a bit more for? I don't want to be in terrible pain or end up killing my hair.
sorry to double post but just wanted to add, check out the video "HOW TO KEEP YOUR HAIR AFTER DREADS!! " on here and you will see how to remove them and keep your hair. Her's were 4 years old and awesome. And all that hair that comes out is just loose hair that normally falls out. Afterward your hair is unbelievably healthy and long.
Thank you and yes I do respect everyones point of view but not if its going to be in a disrespectful or mean way and ok I understand that's your point of view I dont agree with it but I respect it.
If you had said that they should'nt it would of been and opinion, but since you said "can not" im here to prove you wrong im "white" and I have locks and they look fucking awesome...ok? ok bye :)
You look so pretty with dreadlocks. Just so you know, dreadlocks can be removed without cutting your hair. You condition it a lot and slowly comb them out. It takes patience, but can be done.
I'm not being smart or anything but how does it ruin your hair? The heat/straightening thing? I seriously just want to know. I'd rather be educated BEFORE I decide to do something.
i had my dreads for 1 year and i decided to brush them out grainte 5 months later i decided to shave my head anyways for my grandma, but my hair felt fine after taking them out
hey do you think you could do this on short hair. its an amazing look, and i'm the same; way to scared to try the real thing. my hair is level with my jawline? what do you think?
hey guys. there is a method that is popular in the black community used called yarn locs, you can look it up and do it. it's easier, neater and works on any type of hair.
You don't have to cut your hair off if you get dreads. Just don't put wax in, you can comb them out perfectly fine. I think you would look gorgeous with real dreads.
they look awesome. do want to have dreads but not definite ones.. hey so when you shower, does it untangle easily or is it painful? should i use lots of conditioner after?
If you really want to get dreads and you dont want them permanent you could also braid 'synthetic dreads' in your hair. It stays up as long as you want it to.
Really? :D Oh my gosh that is the happiest news I have ever received. You are my new favorite person in the entire universe. Does it damage your hair that much?
Fantastic tutorial! I love dreadlocks but I'm too much of a wimp to do it fully. Plus it will give me an excuse for using my hair straighteners (which as a wash and go girl means that they are just looked at) ^_^ you really remind me of Scarlet Johanson (sp?)
Wondering if you know what will happen if I want to temporary dye my hair, with the fake dread locks. Should I dye it before and then do the dread locks or should I dye my locks afterward. Any help would be appreciated!
