That's awesome. Just a tip, blue arrow on top of drawing and toolpaths will transfer you to other so they don't keep closing on you. Just fyi you probably already knew that .

Thanks so much for this vid. I won't lie, I f'd it up and could not figure out why until I saw you had clicked on material boundary while I had it on model boundary. I am not new to cnc, lifelong gcoder off of prints and new to software. Hope I can pay it forward.

Why do we have to see your face? Why do we have to hear you say I got to move your face? WHY? Can’t you show your face at the beginning of the video, then get on with the teaching. Love your ideas, but there are way to many distractions. Please don’t take this personally. You have great info.

Ive been trying to model the border but only have vcarve pro and not aspire upgrade. Is there a way for me to follow your method for text on text with pro only. I agree it should be simple. Ty

The biggest reason Vectric and others show the normal method for stacked text is not everyone has Aspire. If you have Pro or Desktop, you don't have the option to do all the modeling.

@@tiberiud1955 Those are ripped/generated licenses, but claiming they are selling old licenses. They tell you not to register the license with Vectric, and it's because of that, not the excuse they give. Shady software theft. No one would sell their used Aspire license for under $40.

Hey I am enjoying the videos since I about to upgrade to aspire. Can you explain or show how you did the different colors on that finished piece. Did you just meticulously hand stain them or what?
@LeeSteventon
@LeeSteventon 2 года назад
This is what I was also wondering indeed. The logical answer would be yes, they are individually stained / painted / etc. But another way would maybe be to start with laminated sheets of wood in different colours, and then base the heights of each block of text on the base and the height of the color you want that to be in. Sounds a lot more complicated and difficult to achieve though to me, so I guess stain and / or paint is the way to go

I subscribed to the channel. I thought that might give me an eMail for contact. NOT! I think this is a really excellent way to do Text-on-Text - MUCH better than using Layers!! I milled my sign without the shovel and even then it was screwed up big time. It seems like the bottom text is being carved first and wiping out areas where I KNOW there should be Top Text. My settings are - Bottom text 'Shape 0.15' and 'Base 0.15. Top Text 'Shape 0.30' and 'Base 0.30'. Those settings get my text showing properly and with the top of the material. So, if the text is showing properly in the 3D view WHY would it not be milling properly?

My husband and I are just getting into our Shapeoko XXL and one of the first things I wanted to make was a stacked text sign. I watched a view views and everything was so confusing. Until your video. I realized that we didn’t have the same Vectric software that you were using so I downloaded the Aspire trial and was able to follow along and had one made in about 30 mins (not bad for following a 22min video). My problem now is running the code. Since I can’t save the Gcode on the trial I went to see about getting Aspire and couldn’t get past the price. We’re just beginners and I would have to bring in some serious cash before talking more about dropping that kind of money. Is there any chance you know an easier way to make it on the Vcarve Pro software? I haven’t had any luck with following along to any of the videos that I’ve watched but I’m still trying to watch one video a day, when I can, in between kids and housekeeping. Thanks for the video!

I think I've got the text portion set up O.K., however, how do you make separate tool path for clip art? I have a sign that I have embedded a shovel in and I do see it if I select ALL for my tool path but I want that to be separate to use a ball nose bit on. I would definitely appreciate a comment back about how to do that.

I cannot thank you enough. I am new to Vcarve. I have spent a week trying to figure out how to do something similar. Ultimately, I was successful, but it's sort of a dirty, time-consuming method using layers. This way is so much faster and easier, I knew it was out there, just took me a minute to find your video. Huge thx. Subbed & liked.

As long as there are no 3D objects to machine and just squared off text, the other way will machine much faster using simple pocketing toolpaths and produce a better result. In this example, you could use pocket toolpaths on the upper text because it is squared off and use a 3D toolpath on the lower text and heart. I would make all the text squared off which would just leave a small 3D toolpath on the heart. You could even put a chamfer on the text with a V bit, all without the time consuming 3D toolpaths. No point in saving an hour of design time to add two hours of machine time.
@powerpc6037
@powerpc6037 2 года назад
Or add an outline around the text to use as a boundary for the 3D carve toolpath. No need to let your ballnose bit mill the entire surface where it's already flattened by the endmill.

Thanks for a great tutorial. I was able to follow along and create a sign. However, I was hoping that once I had the file set up, it would be a simple matter to just change the text from one sign to the next. But I am not able to figure out how to do this. Can you explain the process if I want to come back in later and change, for example, the word SUBSCRIBE, to something else?

An interesting way to do text on text. How long did it take to carve this sign...or one using modeling? I don't think most folks make text on text signs use modeling to create their signs.

Depending on feeds and speeds and materials your look at just carving around 5 hours at best
@powerpc6037
@powerpc6037 2 года назад
@@makerstube2986 Wouldn't it carve alot faster if you created an outline around the text for the finishing pass to limit the software to only process the area around the text instead of the entire workpiece? As right now, your ballnose bit will also cover the entire flat areas around the text.

This is how I make mine as well! but the other (harder) way you mention is because they want to use a flat tip engraving bit instead of doing a 3D carve - I guess it's supposed to take less time but I was never able to get it to look very good at all myself so love the 3D carve method better - thanks for sharing!

The 2D pocketing takes far less time and will give you smoother results since it is tracing the letters vs stepping over them, which can give you artifacts at the base of the letters. Longer setup time, but pays off in the end with faster milling and less cleanup.
